- DeadSkinMask, on 06/07/2008, -2/+109No thanks, I'll stick with Craigslist.
- byronm, on 06/07/2008, -4/+90So wal-mart will let me shop for hookers as well?
- smacksaw, on 06/07/2008, -6/+53I say we post ads looking for people to unionise Wal-Mart on their site.
- NRay7882, on 06/07/2008, -2/+34Please, let's keep this professional. Escort services.
- d76a, on 06/07/2008, -6/+35No thanks. I don't want people showing to buy my items with food stamps.
- rootsm3, on 06/07/2008, -8/+30walmart what a disgusting, vile, deplorable corportation
craiglist need no worry - vbullinger, on 06/07/2008, -2/+19I wouldn't worry, everyone.
I looked up "aquarium stand" on their site and on Craig's List.
Here in the Twin Cities area, there is page after page after page of listings for aquarium stands on Craig's List(I really do need one, by the way, it wasn't random).
Apparently, the Wal-Mart site doesn't have any aquarium stands.
In all of America. - DeadSkinMask, on 06/07/2008, -2/+18Please, lets call a spade a spade. Sluts for Hire.
- thegreatgazoo, on 06/07/2008, -0/+16Would you really want the average wal mart shopper as a hooker?
shudder... - Antibland, on 06/07/2008, -9/+24They could offer free gold to dying babies, but they're still a galaxy-consuming, ***** monopolist.
- masterm1nd, on 06/07/2008, -0/+14Would you really want the average hooker as a hooker?
shudder... - DeadSkinMask, on 06/07/2008, -1/+15Congrats. You got the joke.
- Zomar, on 06/07/2008, -5/+18the reason why they are cheaper is because they exploit just about everything to get the products to the consumer.
yes they are cheaper, but at what cost? Encouraging sweat shop labor, smashing workers unions, destroying local businesses, large scale environmental destruction? Walmart ***** over just about everyone so that the customer will buy from them.
As everyone more and more starts buying from their wallet alone, without a thought to their morals, huge companies like this are just going to get more and more powerful. There will be even less variety, less people to line the pockets of, and worse treatment of workers. woohoo go walmart. - qwertydvorak, on 06/07/2008, -0/+10being wal-mart, you will be shopping for cheap discount hookers from china. they may or may not be contaminated like the toys, dog food, toothpaste, etc from china.
- inactive, on 06/07/2008, -1/+10* L * 0 * 0 * K *Ten bags of chocolate-covered ginger snap cookies 10/ $1 !!! * * * LIKE NEW CONDITION! * * *
- gl77, on 06/07/2008, -2/+11trust me, these days, with the economy in a recession, i've seen plenty of rich folks buying items at wal mart. one regular at my local store drives a ***** Lamborghini Murcielago. of course he doesnt drive it to wal mart though, for fear a cart would ram into it. no, he drives his Mercedes SLK to wal-mart instead.
- pakakapa, on 06/07/2008, -0/+9Wal-mart is trying just about everything on-line and failing catastrophically.
- besheer, on 06/07/2008, -0/+8Only if they're Chinese-made hookers.
- phorty40, on 06/07/2008, -7/+15Is the new site going to be scripted by third world children too?
- DeadSkinMask, on 06/07/2008, -1/+9If everyone felt the same way as you did, 99% of the world would be making minimum wage.
- hamobu, on 06/07/2008, -4/+11All of you who think that Wall-mart should provide better wages and living conditions for their employees are wrong. Wall-mart should provide cheap goods by efficient supply-chain management and strong bargaining due to their market power. It would make more sense for government to provide health-care and social help to those who need it. Imagine if you hired a baby-sitter and having to pay her living wage and health insurance.
- painperdu, on 06/07/2008, -1/+7As I remember these mom and pop shops before Walmart hit our town, they were selling crap for exorbitant prices. The local politicians/business people insured that they enjoyed false monopolies. They controlled wages and business zoning laws.
The truth is, at least around here, the romanticized mom and pop businesses weren't as many make them out to be.
I was amazed of the possibilities when Walmart hit our town. - inactive, on 06/07/2008, -1/+7Why would he randomly go and do that? You're a ***** retard, you aren't funny so stop trying.
- CrossCanyon, on 06/07/2008, -0/+5I hate it when ma and pa only have Shark, Princess, and Scooby Doo fruit snacks. Why can't they stock Limited Edition Green Mint American Egocentrism?
- dobry, on 06/07/2008, -0/+5great so walmart has launched its destroy the "online world" campaign now?
- creepermclurker, on 06/07/2008, -0/+5Now THAT'S comedy!
- dogfood, on 06/07/2008, -1/+6What would a dying baby do with free gold?
- trib, on 06/07/2008, -1/+6Oh. That's an easy one: Wal-Mart just sux, Craigslist simply rocks ... think i'll stay @ Craigslist.
- cresswga, on 06/07/2008, -0/+5I am sure this will take off as well as their social network for kids.
- RadioFreeOpium, on 06/07/2008, -1/+6I'll stick with craigslist, but if I ever need a NASCAR themed slip n' slide or any form of merchandise with the words "git r' done" on it, I'll know where to look
- sentinel106, on 06/07/2008, -0/+5@creepermclurker
"Develop some self respect and stop being a victim."
What's that supposed to mean? You and others like you are too quick to jump to one side of an argument, gl77 is just taking the other side. So before you go calling him a conformist and one of the sheeple just remember that Digg is (or at least used to be) a society open to debate, so sit back and enjoy it without throwing a fit.
Also, gl77 (as well as myself actually) are from Jacksonville, Florida, which if you know your geography isn't near any hills, hence there are no hillbillies. creepermclurker you are simply a dumbass. - notoneofus, on 06/07/2008, -0/+5How do you live on $10 an hour? Are things cheap where you are?
- notoneofus, on 06/07/2008, -1/+6And they eventually drive many suppliers out of business, demanding ever increasing discounts that push them to the aforementioned sweat shop labor, union destruction, etc. I know several companies who supplied Wal-Mart with goods, and it started out as a cash cow. Then they were driven to (or near to) bankruptcy by that same cash cow.
- blacktriangle, on 06/07/2008, -2/+7Do I really need to explain this?
1) All of the imports are 100% imported from countries that employ slave labor. Nothing made in America.
2) Low wages guarantee poverty for its workers.
3) All local independent businesses suffer a mass die off when Wal Mart comes to town. Then, Wal Mart closes the store and moves to the next town, starting the process again.
4) Wal Mart is given tax payer paid subsidies to build stores. - elektriknoizz, on 06/07/2008, -0/+4The story title is a bit misleading - it makes me think this is a much more interesting story than it really is.
- santasing, on 06/07/2008, -1/+5Buyer beware.
I ordered an XBox through Walmart online. Why? Don't ask me. I was at work and the fancy struck me and I ordered through their site to store thingy. Before placing the order, it said delivery in 5-7 business days. As soon as the order was placed, "the delivery for this specific item takes 10-12 days". I just checked again, and it has been delayed another week. WTH?
No service numbers or anything. Walmart sucks! - qetuo, on 06/07/2008, -0/+4Walmart is only doing it, because while you are using that part of the site, they can sell you things that are at Walmart. Its not out of the kindness of there hearts, it is to make money.
- greenroom628, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3walmart will never take over craigslist. hell, if walmart censors the cd's it sells, what do you think will happen with the site's content? none of the best features of craigslist will be there, from local for-sale to rants-and-raves. sorry, walmart, no dice.
also...i didn't think the average walmart consumer knew how to use a computer.
"hmmm...they have the internet on computers now, eh?" - inactive, on 06/07/2008, -0/+31) Imports com from the vendors. Wal-Mart does not make the stuff. Besides, the money infused in those countries is a good thing, no?
2) They are not forced to work there. If enough quite, or don't apply due to poor wages, they will raise the wages.
3) Economic survival of the fittest
4) If this is what I think you mean, these funds are available to any business. - cadmiumpaint, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3Craigslist is a free service that single handedly killed the newspaper classifieds. Its used by everyone. why do you need "choices"?
Ebay needs a competitor more than CL. - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+4rofl, $10/h isn't bad after working there for a year? I was earning more at McD's when I was 16.
- Jones82, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3Capitalism is what allows Wal-Mart to exist
- hamobu, on 06/07/2008, -1/+4It makes no sense for wall-mart to go into on-line add business. That would be like Google going into tracking business.
- jameskong15, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3Capitalism that lacks a good level of supervision maybe.
- carpespasm, on 06/07/2008, -1/+4Like AOL.
- solid12345, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3Insurance is affordable for almost everyone, but that requires asking redneck Joe to give up his daily pack of cigarettes and scrap renting that big screen TV. Go spend an evening at the hospital sometime and see how many dumbasses come in with ATV wreck injuries and say they can't afford insurance, but they can afford an ATV and the 12 pack of beer they were drinking...
- solid12345, on 06/07/2008, -5/+8For all the people whining Wal-Mart puts ma and pa out of business, have you forgotten in many places in America there are no goods or services that ma and pa can provide to make me want to shop there over Wal-Mart?
How many Ma and Pa stores stock a considerable selection of CD's, DVD's, consumer toys, sporting
equipment etc. ?
The ones who got hurt the most by Wal-Mart were not small shops, it was the OTHER retailers like Sears who used to be the place where you went to get high-level goods, but nobody bitched that
the Sears catalogue put small shops out of business.
I also have failed to see how Wal-Mart has "damaged" communities as I live in a mid-to-small midwestern city and there are plenty of local businesses, most being restaurants.
If you can't compete, find another business to be in, that is capitalism. - uptown, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3Hopefully this will go as well as their attempt to take on Netflix.
- endlessoul, on 06/07/2008, -0/+3So, basically, this is an ad for Oodle.com?
No thank you. - notoneofus, on 06/07/2008, -1/+4Cultivate?
