- calgone, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11If no one can pronounce your service, might as well call it xpwnd
- FalseProphecy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10The only reason people don't understand why Sprint named the service XOHM is that they don't know what an Ohm is.
P.S. It'll be pronounced "Ex-ome". - c64fan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6xohm.com is now up...
Xohm is Coming.
The Internet is on the verge of another revolution. Coming in Spring of 2008, Xohm promises to bring fast, secure and smart wireless access to cities, enabling the possibility of a whole new range of high-bandwidth applications and uses. Xohm also will expand the Internet experience by partnering with the best companies in the industry to enable a new class of devices with Internet capabilities. Beyond just laptops, the vision of Xohm is to empower PMPs, video cameras, MP3s and more with Internet access.
Xohm will expand the Internet across places and devices and change the way we communicate.
Stay tuned. Xohm is coming. - dzorz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6XOHMLOLOLO!!zzzzLZ
- treas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5they're empowering MP3s with internet access?
- Bob042, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3According to the website, it's pronounced "zome".
http://www.xohm.com/index.html - EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I shall pronounce it yome, as in home with a y. I shall henceforth enter a deeply meditative state when speaking of said xohm.
- kkeith02, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1All the other domain names were taken, that's why they chose xohm. I bet they even used picky-domain to help then come up with a name.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i don't get it. please elaborate on the name's significance.
and quite frankly, i'd much rather have municipal wi-fi so we can start establishing ubiquitous wi-fi coverage that's not controlled by the telecoms. widespread adoption of municipal wi-fi would be a huge technological boon to our society. it could open the door for all sorts of new wireless devices, like a wi-fi internet radio receiver, or VoIP cellphones, or other wireless internet appliances. we wouldn't even need to rely on the telecoms closed cellular network monopolies and submit to their price gouging if municipal wi-fi became standard infrastructure the way we have telephone liens and highway systems, etc.
this is a step in the right direction, but i think municipal wifi is a big enough of a necessity that it should be our ultimate goal. i mean, look at how ***** up our cellular networks are--do we really want the telecoms to manage a nationwide WiMax network? just look at the difference between how the internet developed as an open public network compared to the closed cellular networks that lock out third-party developers and non-carrier-approved devices. - Funky_, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I know someone who works at Sprint, and it's pronounced zome like home or foam.

- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Unsportsman like use of "ftw". 15 yard penalty. Repeat 4th down.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1too bad iPods don't have wifi capabilities. but maybe this'll be useful for Zune and PSP owners. this is also good news for internet radio companies that want to develop portable wireless devices--i'd love to be able to listen to my last.fm statons on the go. internet radio > xm radio/serius > fm radio.
- CalvilloIbrahim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0As the twig is bent, so is the tree inclined. -early 18th
- happytron, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Even if you know what an Ohm is, it still doesn't make any sense. Wires obviously have much lower resistance than air.
- doctapeppa, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2it's pretty obvious he means MP3 players. give him a break.
- d0nk3y, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I bet they were just looking for a four letter domain name that kind of made sense.
- mrsteveman1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0He likes ur ass
- dorkstyle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Per Engadget: "Update: Ah ha! As reader Deluxe points out, it's pronounced "Zome" as in Rome. Had to bust out Firefox since the audio won't play in Safari."
- citruscommerce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Very cool site!
- primesuspect, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1don't hate on SPRINT.... is pronounced ZOHM

- landohlakes, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Taken from AT&T's great rebranding of Cinguar - WiMax is the new Xohm.
- michaelkirk, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1I think XOHM is pronounced like ZOOM..... maybe?
- SoCalMario, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Sprint RULES!!!!
- yeahbuddy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3Ghey
- michaelkirk, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1I think it is pronounced like "ZOOM'. Maybe?
- gcnaddict, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2Ah, WiMAX.
Useless for me until a blackberry uses it... which won't happen for another five years. Damnit, I love RIM's phones but I hate the lack of proper 3G, let alone WiMAX. - noahs, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1it seems everyone is going crazy for these from left field names....
XOHM, MAHALO, WII, ZUNE, URGE, GOOGLE.... - j2diz, on 10/10/2007, -7/+0anyone want xomh.com for free? just msg me i don't want it. ihsoccer2004@yahoo.com
