it would seem that way at first at first glance, but if reporters actually took some time to read the comments -they'd see Diggers come from every social/economic/political walk of life. I mean you see (or atleast did see once upon a time) everything from highly conservative or xenophobic news articles to anything else, we are the web..I mean after a few days of something getting dugg on DIgg - it ends up becoming really popular everywhere else. - xxx420xxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"As with any democracy, Diggers get what they deserve."
LOL OMGZ THE TUBES INTERNETSSSSSS!!11! - praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -1/+8Huh? I thought rainbow suspenders were still cool.
- milk93rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I dunno, I think Rooster and Mongo really have their fingers on the pulse of world events.
- WikiEasy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7To be blunt, Digg really is the bottom of the barrel. It's being gamed by lots of blog spam, SEO sites (heck many even have "seo" in their urls, which is a big tip-off).
People go on WSJ to see QUALITY news filtered in their own way. Those that don't like it never go there, and those that do love it. Now they're trying to force the "bottom of the barrel" approach to their user base. That's like forcing vegas to eat steak. Doesn't work. Wrong crowd.
Digg is only fun because lots of items get posted, mostly crap by the way. Otherwise it's lame. - mws715, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just read this article on my flight back to LA this afternoon. I was pretty disappointed in how the WSJ chose to portray Digg. The author did his/her best to sample odd news that made the headlines at Digg. Made Digg seem very juvenile and like a voice for frat boys.
- patience, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Digg will also get old soon. Lets not gloat over Netscape's demise.
Read comments on Reddit: many think this place isn't so great.
I like Digg but netscape bashing is just gettng old. - djames82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I already see a problem with WSJ online...the front page is full of crap. Crap = small letters in big clusters bombarded with more advertisements than I can handle...
- Wonderkind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well if everyone here says we're hip, we must be.
We all think so, so it must be true.
At least that's how it worked for the monkeys in Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book...
Anyone got any peanuts? - Culled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm hip unfortunately I have an allergic reaction to peanuts.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Digg is hip?
- minox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, it is really mostly conspiracy theories and various embodiments of fanboydom to the extreme.
- megaloid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3In my opinion, Slashdot is cooler than ever, now that a good proportion of the trolls and wankers who previously afflicted them have migrated to Digg.
- Yorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Made Digg seem very juvenile and like a voice for frat boys."
Well, when you constantly see stories about Apple when you've set your Digg settings to explicitly block it, you know there's a problem. Besides, how many of you *aren't* in college? - kraigdaemon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Beautiful! Even if it's not true it is quite a nice idea.
- triscuitbiscuit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3How come Kevin and them don't ever sue these companies that blatantly copy their design or is the copying of Digg's design not protected? I haven't been to Netscape in a long time and I am shocked how much of a copy it is... It is pathetic and I don't like it one bit.
- Octagons, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Consider me Miles Davis.
- DrFelch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oh yeah, A pseudo journalist wanker at The Wall Street Journal! He is SO the arbiter of what is hip!!
Funny, I always thought that WSJ was the one who has always been the "opposite" of "hip". Unless a bunch of old corporate fascist wannabees is somehow now "with it". Yeah, Lee, keep telling yourself that. This is another article that points out all too clearly how scared the Old Media is of the new citizen journalist revolution. I hope WSJ ends up as irrelevent and non-credible as WaPo is. Nobody takes either paper seriously when it comes to politics, and the only thing WSJ has to hang it's hat on is the more academic and non political business news, and, knowing them, that stuff is probably slanted too to maximise the profits rich speculators can make duping the general investing public.
Down with you, WaPo and WSJ, and good riddance to bad rubbish. The end is near for the likes of you. I, for one, can't wait to see you all on the unemployment line. - wphj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I guess no one else got the Billy Madison joke...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1WSJ isn't all that hip either
- Leopards, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1My Netscape used to be my homepage! Then the change and clicking on a link in news no longer took you to the story you clicked on! What's the point of links that don't link to the story!! Bye, Bye Netscape! Now Have CNN.COM for homepage, at least the news is link properly to the page!!
- crumdugg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1SO TRUE!
The difference in what Digg does and what all the followers try is simple...INNOVATION!
I see some VERY big sites out there that try and implement voting systems, only to see the tool slip into a realm of irrelevance within a matter of days. It's isn't the script or software that Digg Digg. rather, it was the IDEA that built and drove the community to what it is today. These other sites just can't seem to grasp that.
Also, sites like Netscape are completely shooting themselves in the foot by trying to "fake" a community. Check this out!

Great post! - Basketb926, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2for those who missed it:
http://digg.com/playable_web_games/Three_HOT_interactive_ladies_at_the_car_wash - mastershake1, on 10/12/2007, -20/+0Because the tech bloggers who genuflect before Digg are obviously Diggers. Duh. This story is so buried as lame and inaccurate.
- mastershake1, on 10/12/2007, -31/+5"Tech bloggers typically genuflect before Digg, regarding it as a founder of a new kind of democratic journalism."
Congrats, Diggers, you are all now officially known to the mainstream world as a bunch of fanboys.

What is Digg?
