Instead of crying foul, and siccing lawyers on everybody, he embraces it, goes on TV, makes fun of himself, and proves he's a good sport. In the process, he gets tons of free PR. It was hilarious when it started and it will always be. Maybe I'm just easily amused.

- PlancksCnst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1makgyver is right. Before I saw his comment, I had to take look at the code. The way it marks diggs is to pass value to the server http:// [current story location]?cdigg=[commentnumber]#[commentnumber] . You can try submitting this value multiple times, but it doesn't ever count it more than once. What happens is it also runs a function that does the fancy display stuff (making the digg buttons gray and fading the # of diggs). So, it actually ends up displaying an incorrect number, but the real digg counter (on the server) is still accurate. To reset the display counters, just refresh the page.

If I post a non-tech story I don't want to hear people bitch about it given that this has over 400 digs thus far. Kevin needs to either drop the "tech-related" idea of digg or start moderating things more closely.
Oh, but wait. Isn't digg supposed to be user-driven? So the conclusion that can be reached here is that by constantly submitting and digging non-tech stories, users want to see digg go in a less tech-related and more general direction. - psxman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Only seems to work for up-mods, though.
