- crawf061, on 10/12/2007, -6/+100I going to need some links to the videos so I can verify that they are truly smut.
- tjordan90, on 10/12/2007, -6/+70Did you want the beheadings and bloody car accidents, or just girl-on-girl mutual masturbation?
- regyt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+58Like a comic strip of Mohammed.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+51They want to maximize their audience. Beheadings, porn, and bloody accidents severely limit the number of younger users they'll get, and in turn reduce their revenue.
This is about money. Not religion.
I don't want to see beheadings. That's what ogrish is for. That's why I don't *visit* ogrish. Jesus has nothing to do with it (as I'm an atheist). Beheading videos just aren't my idea of a fun friday night. - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -7/+41For research purposes, of course.

I was meaning to take down that video of myself.. - invader, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32"When it's a question of money, everybody is of the same religion."

My day keeps on getting better! - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Parents, government, and organizations again try to kill the revolution.
YouTube: "Hey look, you can put any video you want on our site for your friends to see!"
Common man: "Sweet."
RIAA: "PEOPLE ARE USING SONGS WITHOUT PERMISSION! RAAAAAAAR!"
The Man: "You smut-peddlers, all of you."
Parents: "Great, but if my kid searches for porn on there after finding my stack of magazines, it's all your fault for turning him to the dark side, and you shall burn." - saleens281, on 10/12/2007, -12/+33ya, lord knows it's the video sites job to police the intarweb. We couldn't actually expect parents to do any... *GASP* PARENTING. Or... *EWWW* take an INTEREST in what their kids are doing!
- ManiacFive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25its 2006, its the internet, can i not have the girl on girl masturbation, the bloody car wreck and the beheading in one video?
It doesnt have to be in that order. Theres a market for everything online these days. - johnnybravoh, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25You know, that's simply stupid. I'm a parent and I maintain pretty strict control over what my kids can and can't do on the web. Their computer is in a highly public place in our house and is outward facing so I can see at a glance what they are doing. However, I *cannot* be there 24/7/365. They are, at some point going to be able to access the internet without my supervision. What I'm afraid of is the simple, innocent act of going to http://www.craiglist.com/ instead of craigslist.com, or something similar.
There's no amount of parenting that can prepare a child to comprehend what pops up on the screen in the form of porn. There's no damned reason for *any* child to have to see that. It's simply not (nor should it be) part of their world.
That being said, I recognize how very difficult it is to moderate all posts in a high traffic site like youtube or others of their ilk. All I as a parent would like is for there to be some gateway to pass through before they see hardcore content. Currently (sadly), if you stumble upon one of these sites, there often isn't. If there was, I'm confident that my parenting would direct my child to do the right thing when and if they accidentally hit one of these sites. - gr3yg00se, on 10/12/2007, -11/+26and the problem with this is? i thought the internet was made for porn
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Actually, as an atheist, I like to know that there are sites that are porn free.
For example, if a friend IMs me at work and says, "check this out!!!" and sends me a youtube link, I like knowing that it's probably not going to be some crazy hardcore porn.
Don't get me wrong, porn's great, just at the right place and time. :-) - sardonic, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Life sucks for dumb parents and I know all too well there are a lot of them. They probably just bought a super cheap cool Blue Hippo PC for their kids..
- TrevorBradley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"beheadings, masturbation, bloody car accidents, bondage and sadomasochism."
Let's just put those all in the same category, shall we? - uptown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11that'd be "balls" wouldn't it?
- Cabbage, on 10/12/2007, -27/+36"grab your dick and double click for PORN PORN PORN!"
- saleens281, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8You're right, parents can't be with thier kids ALL THE TIME. Nothing is stopping them from limiting their kids computer time to when they're around though. I didn't get to play nintendo 9 hours a day when I was a child, my parents limited my time to when they could be around to make sure I wasn't playing something I shouldn't be. Why is it any different today? Got responsibility?
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8For one thing, they don't want you to see the violence that is taking place in Iraq.
They call them gore videos, but they are documentary footage of something that is happening in Iraq today. What the newsmedia shows you is sanitized; you see nothing except perhaps a dramatic flaming wreck and a pool of blood. Exciting, huh? They don't show you the body parts strewn all over the street, the bloated, rotting corpses--sometimes partially eaten by dogs and vermin.
Iraqis see that on a daily basis, every time an IED goes off, a suicide bomber attacks, or someone is executed for belonging to the wrong religious faction.
It is so horrific you'd find it hard to believe that something like this is possible in what is supposedly such a benevolent "liberation," with only some minor, "irrelevant" collateral damage here and there. Yet that's exactly what those videos prove, they prove that Bush is lying.
We've gone backwards, we're more censored than ever when it comes to our news. Back during the Vietnam war, they used to show unedited footage of the carnage, today we are getting nothing but Bush prancing around in staged PR shots like nothing was wrong. The situation is so bad he couldn't even *drive* to the green zone, he flew by helicopter.
Don't let them censor videos from Iraq. Upload them wherever you can, show them to everyone you know. They should see what they voted for. - cybercerberus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why the hell is johnnybravoh being modded down??? Must be all the 12-year-olds on Digg projecting their own disdain for their parents.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6im surprised noone has mentioned http://hottube.wordpress.com/
all the *interesting* clips gathered from youtube and google video - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"beheadings, masturbation, bloody car accidents, bondage and sadomasochism" - does that include all 5 at the same time?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5geez people act like they have never heard of a filter. If you cant be with your kids 24/7 maybe your kids shouldnt be on the internet when you are not there. Maybe keep the computer in a locked room so that the entirety of life doesnt have to be cencored so that you can shelter your children from some sort of morality that offends you. By the time your kids get old enough and wise wnough to get arround your filters, then you probably have more to worry about than a little porn.
- regyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You start, get the ball rolling.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No.
Ways of speading information where THE MAN has no control: BAAAD! - jonshipman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4not really
generally speaking all the hot girls on youtube get 5 star ratings. And it generally involves nudity.
...not that I look for that sort of thing or anything - chevy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There seems to be some very unreasonable expectations on the part of the the "think of the children crowd".
FTA: "It's disappointing because we contacted (Google Video) two weeks ago, and they said they were trying to make changes. Still, this stuff continues" to show up.
Seriously, what sort of person expects two weeks from complaint received to resolution on something like this, the ONLY way they could have removed such content within 2 weeks is to shut down the service.
Personally I'd like content warnings on videos myself, I can't imagine it will be too long before there is a video equivalent of goatse/lemonparty/tubgirl and I'd rather not see that sort of thing, but it is completely unreasonable to expect any company to be able to deal with this within 2 weeks. Sorry, just not gonna happen. - Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Linux. Linux will solve everything.
- Icyfenix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Honestly though, if your kids are looking at the porn, they're probablly old enough to need that kind of stimulation. If not, they'll have questions. If it's wierd porn, and it traumatizes them, then they're too young to be unsupervised on the internet, turn on some parental control software and block any potentials.
- guttertrash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5isn't it nice that people take videos of themselves masturbating and put them on the internet. It's like GPL porno. i love it. thanks you kinky little rascals, you. :)
- odyss3y, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@johnnybravoh:
when youre not there, set up your network to be whitelist only. only preapproved sites can be visited when youre not around. - SpyDerMann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4marnaq: That's the point, current approaches would force us to blacklist sites such as digg or youtube, and there are wonderful youtube videos linked from digg, that kids would love (like the rube goldberg machines).
If you don't regulate youtube, you're practically forcing parents to blacklist content that should be "greylisted" instead. And you know what children do with blacklisting.
If children aren't allowed to watch youtube videos, then just screw the "report as offensive" link and allow EVERYTHING.
See, either you have GOOD regulation or NO regulation at all. But not a DEFECTIVE regulation, which is what youtube has right now. And it SUCKS. - marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3SpyDerMann, you shouldn't let a person (like a 10-year-old) browse youtube.com (or any other site) freely. When you *know* he/she can stumble upon "distubing" content. Internet isn't friendly, and never will be.
- emperortomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At first I read this as

BUT I'd rather tell parents to raise their kids rather than have the parents force their/my government to do it (e.g. forcing all porn sites to be .xxx and having people op-in to recieve, criminilizing sale of violent video games to minors when 90-something% of the time it's the parents that are buying those games for their kids and then are shocked afterwards to see what kind of violence/content the game has EVEN though it was clearly labelled as such on the box by the ESRB, etc.) If you want to have kids then be prepared to raise THEM! - phlogiston99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"It's important to note that no child pornography was discovered."
Otherwise we would have to shut down the whole Internet at once.
But somebody think of the children! - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"ya, lord knows it's the video sites job to police the intarweb."
No, it's their job to police _their own damn sites_. If you take the "post anything you want on my site" route, you'll be the next rotten.com, with a few thousand users. Keep it clean, and you can *be* on the whitelist of sites parents let their kids visit, with millions of visits a day.
Guess which makes you more money?
Keeping your site clean is good bussiness sense. - stlcadet11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I doubt that if everyone where an atheist, that people would be masturbating in restuarants.
Religion is one thing but people still have self dignity and some common sense. - PayneX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Now you're thinkiing like a politician
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"beheadings, masturbation, bloody car accidents, bondage and sadomasochism"
all of which you can easily find on Bit Torrent or any P2P program anyway. - DickBreath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here are some sites...
DailyMotion.com
Veoh.com
If you're looking for graphic violence:
ogrish.com - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Think of the children!!!!! Act
"...Exploitation of Youth Act, or the Safety Act, want to decrease the chances that children can inadvertently be exposed to pornography."
It's alwasy about the p0rnz, but the beheadings and bloody car crashes are ok? I don't get it. Sex is unnatural and beheadings are? - SpyDerMann, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Yes, the "not appropriate for minors" category. They all fit. Granted, there are subcategories in there, the point is that video sharing sites DO NEED regulation. If you disagree with ANY content regulation, here's a nice word for you: Spam.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I refuse to believe that anyone can be so squeemish and pathetic that they are traumatized by porn, short of maybe a snuff film or rape.
Porn is not traumatic, and sex is natural, even for underage teens. I remember thinking about sex even when I was nine, maybe earlier. Sigh, if I knew then what I know now! - critic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Obligatory..."But think of the children!" quote
Internet bad..TV good - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and that is relevent how?
noone is saying these arent on the internet, they are saying they shouldnt be on this part but are having trouble keeping it away, everyone knows you can find these things if your want - glsunder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm guessing that the same people who say parents should be constantly monitoring their kids would be the first to complain if their parents actually monitored them 24/7.
