- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+68Just an FYI, I had to video tape these for a show back at SEMA last year. They do NOT look as good as they do in that video. The only way I could make them appear "solid" was to slow the shutter speed way down and close up the iris. I have 2 videos that were cut, one taped at regular speed and one taped at 1/4. At highway speeds they look ok, but at normal speeds, they look "jittery".
Just wanted a little *buyer beware* in case some one was about to plop down $12k on them sight unseen :)
Chip- - spriggig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Uh $12,000+?! I think not.
- Ignathius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27too bad their probably not street legal. most states consider things like flashing led liscenses plate covers to be a 'distraction' to other drivers, and aren't street legal. i'm sure these would fall under the same catagory.
"hey honey, look at this guys rims. they're really coo..." *CRASH*
definatally cool as hell tho :P - foshizol, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28I think these rims are a conspiracy to keep the black man down.
- verticalQ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27The thing is, you know someone's going to load porn on to these things. I'm still trying to figure out why people want DVD players and PS2s in their cars. I mean, it's not like you can (or rather should) watch a movie or play video games while driving. Side note: ever notice how every mini van with a DVD player in it is always watching "Finding Nemo"?
- deadzebra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I wonder if they could be hooked up to cameras in the center of the opposite wheel along with a live update to create a funny "invisible wheels" effect.
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27These are the stupidest thing I have ever seen. Well... not quite as stupid as that girl in the video who is attracted to the rims because they are colorful. Do people actually think women are attracted to this?!
- zeldafan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Because people love useless crap.
- monzsca, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Time to unpimp the rims.
- wabbiteh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19I will admit this is pretty cool... But that ad has got to be the worst, most annoying thing I have ever seen. It just makes me want to hit something
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22No 30" rims? WEAK! I've gone through three sets of these already because I keep spilling Cristal on them.
Then somebody hacked and defaced my rims! F*CK THAT SH*T DOG! ARF! Next time I'm leaving my bluetooth off when rolling on these dubs. - 12340987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15say what you want, but making it into pacman chasing a ghost would be friggin sweet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Cool... BUT flashing red and/or blue lights are illegal in most states (if not all). Only police and emergency vehicles may flash red or blue.
/don't shoot the messenger! - donsherio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15ouch... anyone willing to pay that much is crazy. and just wait till u get pulled over for being distracting
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19All your brains are belong to us.

- drawkbox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17Spinners yes they suck, but this you could really highlight in a cool way. Most of the samples suck on this site but just making rims blue or simple designs could really be cool looking. How long til they pay people to have ads on their rims?
- kiwininja, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19Oh my god. When are people going to stop with this kind of crap. It used to be spinners, now it will be this. Why the hell would anyone waste their money on these.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I hope the driver isn't changing it while driving.
- elev8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Why do people find it necessary to link to their ***** blogs? As I'm writing this, the blog is down (WordPress is spitting out a MySQL error).
Here's the official product site (with video): http://customwheel.com/custom_wheels/product_info.php/products_id/1687 - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14ha this is so completely unnecessary, and probably hilariously overpriced. I gotta admit, it does look pretty cool though. I wonder if theres a way to send video to it. I'd run mine with a video of a car wheel spinning on it.
- Ignathius, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16"Do people actually think women are attracted to this?!"
if she knows you dropped 20grand on some rims, chances are she'll definatally be interested. think of all the money you have to waste on her! - AndreMA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Alternate headline:
Not content with causing accidents by distracting themselves with cellphones and DVD players, idiots embark on new campaign to cause accidents by distracting others with pointless crap like these and spinners.
Such things should be banned as a hazard. - Herd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+822" package with Pirelli tires ($12,500.00)
24" package with Pirelli tires ($15,000.00)
26" package with Pirelli tires ($19,500.00) - jpetticrew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10That is the worst commercial ever made. Can anyone say 1980s children's toy?
- devoinregress, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Wait till you can watch Finding Nimo on your rims too. Someone has to have a hack that will make these play video.
Its a lot of crazy ***** but people like it. I saw someone playing a racing game, talking on his cell phone, and listining to loud music while peeling out at a light. Stupid ***** like that but they do it. - serra, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Most stupid thing ever! If you have that much money, and that is the best thing that you can find to buy, then you are an idiot.
- paulc201, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I waiting until I can get a used set for my Pinto...
- vh1`, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8the DVD players and consoles are for other people in the car, or if you're ever just chilling out
also, mini vans are (mostly) for families. finding nemo is a family movie. see where I'm going with this? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't know what they use for these car rims, but the ones for the bicycle that was dugg awhile back used a magnet and hall-effect sensor to determine when the wheel was aligned and a microprocessor was used to switch on/off the array of LEDs as it sweeps a circular path. Determine how fast the wheel is spinning, find out the angle based on elapsed time, then for each angle you have a certain pattern that you need to light up.
- ehrichweiss, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14My first question is: How long till we see parts of these flying off like we do the spinners? They have to have something that tells them when they're top dead center or else no one could read them and that something is likely to be a poorly engineered swinging free weight or the like which will break eventually. I honestly rejoiced when pieces of those retarded things started turning up in my front yard because they disintegrated from the massive wear-and-tear they get. Do those people who design those things not realize that a car is built like it is because it might actually have to last more than 1,000 miles?!?!?!?
FWIW, I agree with Chris Rock...if black people would stop spending their hard earned money on rims, we might get some progress. That's not intended to be racist(I don't see how I could be considering my family)..just a horrifying observation.
I once saw a guy who bought a Mercedes-Benz and I guess the guy figured that owning a Benz in decent shape wasn't enough to show he had some wealth, the idiot decided to make it flashy and put a gawd-forsakenly cheesy paint job on it and some rims. How do you go about selling such a thing when you're tired of it when most of the people who might be interested in a Mercedes aren't going to be interested in that crap, and 90% of the people interested in that cheeseball style aren't gonna have the money for a Benz!?!?!?!?
"Hi, I'm interested in the Mercedes you have in the paper.."
"Yeah, it's metallic green with orange and yellow accents, I put some dangly balls on the interior, tinted the windows purple and I have some killer rims on it"
"Soooo....it's not stock?"
"Stock!?!? Who wants to be seen in a plain old Mercedes???"
"Thanks anyway" - Rice, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Yeah, always Finding Nemo, why is that?
- Lut3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Then five minutes later he wrapped himself around a light-pole.
- Prometheus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Are you reffering to Lady Ada's SpokePOV? I wanna make one of them http://www.ladyada.net/make/spokepov/index.html
- Jaysturn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I would find it interesting to know what percentage of people that are bashing these rims would get a woody over the next big case mod (i.e. useless, but a method of self-expression)?
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Did anyone else notice the black guy says
"And, you can do it while you're driving, without stopping your car!"
-- O_O
That sounds, safe? - bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4These wheels are just asking for cops to randomly stop & search your ass.
- Valnar300, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5somehow the words "Pac-Man chasing a ghost" come to mind...
- qwab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3These would look so wicked cool on my John Deer tractor.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8that is the most retarded thing I have ever seen. People who buy those are attention whores, andx nobody likes an attention whore. If one white person buys those I want to slap them.
- JHawk24821, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Dubs... with LEDs. :)
- abeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this is cool
@ 12340987
like this
http://digg.com/gaming/Pacman_LED_rims_for_Bicycles - drawkbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3HOw about half a lexus instead
- ltworek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Stupid people like shiny things. Stupid people and most females that is. A fool and his money are easily parted right..
- NewEvolution, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3See, that might almost be cool...
I personally cannot think of a single image that would actually look good on these things. That pac-man and ghost idea was funny, I'll admit, but who the hell would actually do that one. $50 says one of the first adopters turns each wheel into a breast. - dbarbour, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10"Do people actually think women are attracted to this?!"
Depends on the type of woman you're wanting. You see, the hardest part of meeting women is arousing their interest in you. If you're one of the first people to get a set of this, you can rest assured putting your phone number on the rims will get you more calls than you can handle. Accessories are not what attracts women. They merely get them to take notice. You have to do the attracting on your own. So short answer... no, but if you're an early adopter, yes. - mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Maybe you could get one that says : I'm a freaking dumbass, please rear-end me.
I would be happy to oblige. - brentz0r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4+digg just because it's so rediculous!
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@carguy
Chip? Sema?
Are you who i think you are? - us3ecandme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't believe that I had to read this far down before someone pointed that out.
