- ajiva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone know if this is coming to Austin anytime soon?
- ilikeeggs8877, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2did you seriously just say "5 mhz" and mean it?...
p.s. i have 30/5 and love it - Phoneman64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When Verizon DSL was offered on a discount, I dropped cable broadband and never looked back, since it was comparable in speed and much cheaper in price. Then, when Verizon made FIOS available, I signed up and have been VERY happy with it. I selected the 5 mhz package and it measures close to that (4950-5111) at all times, at PC Pitstop. I will subscribe to FIOS TV, whenever it is offered in Garland, Texas, and I'll drop Dishnetwork satellite, the same way I dropped Comcast Cable. I understand everyone will not be happy if you build a better mousetrap, and give it to them for free...... but Verizon seems to be doing lots of things RIGHT, here in Texas! That's my honest opinion.
- defduane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I signed up for FiOS when it became available in Sarasota a few months back. I am pretty satisfied with the overall service, but I really like its potential for the future. There doesn't seem to be many reviews out there, so I wrote one of my own. It's much more detailed and more up to date than the original article for this digg: http://www.defefx.com/verizon-fios-tv/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I get 16.2 and 2.1 with my FIOS, i like it so much better than that ***** comcast i used to have....
- Vanburene, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1This Is FiOS! This Is The Big Apple! Verizon FiOS TV Makes Its New York City Debut
http://www.sourcerelease.com/corp/kw0?r=xmmm85 - auswipe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Verizon FIOS has been awesome for me. We should be getting FIOS TV in another month or so. The 30/5 package is still too expensive for me at $200 a month so I have the 15/2 package and it rocks.
- mdheinzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know about you guys but i sure can't wait to get rid of my ComCrap (comcast). Better speeds and cheaper prices are what i am looking for. Its good to see a little competition. Hopefully the content will get better or the prices will go lower.
- Logik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1hey nice job of copying that straight from engadget... how about giving credit to who actually WROTE what you put in there as summary?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In the Washington DC area we have had FIOS internet for about a year...i love the speed and reliability...im difinitly getting the tv service when it comes out
- loeakaodas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hopefully they hurry up with the installation for FIOS where I live so I can get this next year
- ccrook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My dad just got this at home - 15/2 and its really 15/2. It's pretty freaking sweet. We don't have the TV option yet though...
- DeadRubberDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's times like this that I wish I didn't live in the little ol' UK.
But then after a few minutes, I see the error of my ways. I just have to be patient. - Braddeharder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Verizon is one of the baby bells that the federal government split up in the 80's. One of the conditions was that the baby bells can not go in to another's territory. So if you are like me, and have bellsouth or any-other baby bell in you area, Verizon can not get in.
The rest of the US will just have to wait until our companies decide to do this. which might be along time. - LuckyPhil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My God!
...I will never see that in Australia
*bursts into tears* - Ixliam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish they would list all the cities where FIOS was at. I'm on Comcrap and its ok, but if it goes out God help you trying to get someone with a clue to come fix it.
- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do you guys actually get close to the 15/2 speeds, or is it mostly overhead, cause I see the trucks around here install fiber, and thinking about upgrading...?
- tlattie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is not an IPTV Service... it is just like analog and digital cable from comcast but over a nice clean fiber network instead of the old noisy HFC plant the cable companies use.
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0methinks I need FiOS
- Babysuggie, on 03/24/2008, -0/+0I work on behalf of Verizon and I was actually very pleased seeing some of these comments. First off: Verizon and Verizon DSL are not the same as FiOS. We have 5/2, 20/5, and 20/20 available for domestic internet connections. We actually have a 100/100 available for businesses. Thats pretty effing fast. If any of you are in the Massachusetts area, I can check it out and see if it is available in your area. They will be opening new towns in April. Good Luck!
6174474727 ask for Kyla - CorpusD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Reading the story it sure seems like the person contacted was actually a Verizon shill or marketter who spotted the request for information. It may be good, but why all the downplaying of the other services? Thats marketting speak for sure.
- mikeschurr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0After 12 years of Comcast and too many negative experiences I finally had the opportunity to switch to FIOS w/TV. Holy Smokes, I was paying Comcast $150/month and getting garbage. FIOS is unreal. Anybody who has cable or satellite and doesn't switch is crazy. It took a whole day for the install but when all said an done it was worth the hassle. 6 trucks rolled into my driveway at 9:00, 3 left by neen and the rest stayed until it was complete. They did have to pull 600' of fiber to get me connected, hence the army of techs.
- danfitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think they have a website where you can sign up for a notification when they make the internet available.... going to be a long time for omaha... quest and cox are big here
- michaelg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I live less than a mile away from Keller and I can't get it just because I technically live in a different city.
- Slinker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Insider on Verizon: At least with DSL, the appointments seem to be rarely met. (I have a ton of people who complain about the wide, 8 to 5 appointment time) If it works the first time, great. If not, cancel and get another service.
- meyerj88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im definately moving to keller texas... i just want the internet speeds. right now i don't really care about the tv. thats just a bonus.
- soulcages01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have FIOS and I love it. I get 14.8 mbps down and 1.875 mbps up consistently. The TV service will be awesome when it comes out in my area.
- maddog666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FIOS is GREAT!!!
reality: mine was "installed" friday and doesn't work (monday). I spent a few hours each day since friday listening to one ***** story after another from verizon. servers down... it'll be up in an hour.... the tech will be there in 2 hours.... the checks in the mail.... BLAH, BLAH.... they make the cable company look slick.
- gothicx00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Um... these aren't new features... when i was reading off some of the responses to my girlfriend, you know what she said? "That sounds like our Cox service" and she's right. All of those features are availible on Cox cable in my area, right down to the VOD. Infact, that is exactally the same DVR box I have, except of course for the Verizon badge. And as far as the internet connection? I get 9mb down and nearly 1mb up. And I get all this (DVR box, cable and internet) for right around $100 a month. Not bad if you ask me, so why was that guy bitching about the price of cable? Is it really that expensive in Texas. Anyway, interesting read but i'm not quite sure it's a digg.
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Look guys. Let me tell you this now: Verizon is a horrible company. When I had their DSL service in New York, it stopped calling after about 7 months, and when I called them to get a technician to come to my house and look at it, they broke every appointment I made. Then after literally 2 months of waiting, a guy called and told me that the problem was in the wiring, and it was fixed for now, and I'll have half the speed I usually had, and the rest would be fixed eventually. A month later it stopped again, again I called them and they said that problem was because the telephone wire inside my house wa too long. Then another technician said the problem was that my house was too far to qualify for DSL!! After almost a year they tell me this. That's Verizon for you."
that's just you... I have 3.0 Mbps DSL and I have never had any problems with either verizon or the service, it has pretty much never disconnected, very stable, etc... but I have never had to have someone come to my house - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Look guys.
