- Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm guessing they're going to integrate this in with Paypal?
- vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow i wonder what is going to happen to my friend that works there...
- GrFxGrL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is really a huge deal, for people in the Payment Gateway/credit card processing industries. Right now VeriSign and Authorize.Net are the largest payment gateways. This purchase will definately make waves, even if the average person doesn't feel them initially, they will in time. It also effects how smaller businesses will be able to process since eBay has limited use of only PayPal payment gateway for it's customers. Smaller gateways are going to get hurt by a lot of these changes.
- cam815, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The "Payment Gateway" software they're talking about - is that their Payflow Link & Pro software? If so, I wonder what happens to all the existing accounts...
- jgstew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I dont like the fact that ebay owns paypal and has that as the only form of online payment for auctions, and now controls verisign as well... the whole point is that no one entity controlls these things together. If they are responsible for every aspect of a transaction, then they could alter it at their will.
- lumpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wonder if they will roll the whole thing into paypal.
- Tezgno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I never used the VeriSign gateway (and none of the places I frequent) use it so this doesn't affect me. However, I can't stand the eBay/Paypal crap. Ebay closed my seller account after someone made a fraudulent purchase from me (I never sent them the item). Then, Paypal closed my business account because of the fraudulent purchase (in which the money was reversed back because someone had hacked their Paypal account and made the fraudulent transaction). Paypal told me that they were closing my account because they couldn't figure out who had hacked the account so assumed that I participated in it (keep in mind that I was selling a legitimate item on eBay and never met the buyer) and eBay closed my account because I no longer had my Paypal account and didn't offer Paypal as my preferred method of payment on all of my transactions.
- super_structure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As long as eBay doesn't start sending me domain name renewal notices like VeriSign used to (when I didn't even register through them), I don't really much care. PayPal accounts work just fine for me, since there's no other good way for me to charge people's credit cards via eBay.
- neurokaotix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0eBay (eB$y? ;]) is probably the worst company on the planet. So... this is bad.
