- wyattearp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18now ... if only they would finish the roll out with gmail integration ... but i'll be patient :-)
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I know how you feel... Imagine a shortcut on the sidebar of gmail to add stuff to calendar. It'll come soon. Sit tight.
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Imagine having the calendar actually open through gmail like switching to your sent mail folder or trash. My biggest complaint is that it operates under a different domain (google.com/calendar) from gmail. It should be within the gmail app, or at least fake it.
It's obvious they originally set out to have it operate within gmail by looking at the interface. No other google offering has a similar interface to gmail except calendar.
I don't want my calendar opening in another window. I want it to just work in gmail. - 52tease, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Don't forget, this site also functions as a social bookmarking site. Many people may have dugg this website to keep it handy when they are learning how to work with Google calendar.
- jmack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, I'd like to see gmail integration as well as google.com/ig integration...
- linus7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Okay people. If you are so worried about what gets on the front page and what doesn't, then let's all start complaining about how "my" story should be there and not his! I mean, for one...grow up. If you don't like it....skip it. No...don't post a comment we don't want to read. If you really think its lame, then submit that its lame. Thats it. These comments down here are supposed to be useful, not our own useless ramblings...
- toekneebullard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They choose what to put on diggnation, it's not like they're forced to say the top ten. Hence why you've never heard a story about shortcuts in the podcast.
This is digg.com. It's not a companion to the diggnation podcast. It's a website on it's own, so let it be that way. We shouldn't use this site in consideration of what Alex and Kevin will say on the podcast. We should just use it. - DeejayLupo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4While I appreciate your guys' sentiments that Digg should be above simply linking to publicly-available help files, this got dugg because Calendar is new and this particular feature wasn't really mentioned or advertised in the initial release.
- dashifen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Use the XML feed you can get from the calendar settings page. then you can embed the data how ever you wish after processing the XML. I haven't tried it yet, but there's no reason it shouldn't work.
- neofactor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Great ... lets post all of the obvious help pages google has clearly published on there site.
Should I start making posts to Microsoft help documents... we could be here forever. - thebeaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is the calendar still moving pretty sluggish for everyone else? When I first created it yesterday, it was blazingly fast. Now there is a long delay between any action. Just trying to make sure I'm not having browser issues. (Firefox, btw)
- mcbarron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2YMMV, but it still seems to be moving pretty fast for me.
- ewithrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google Calendar is great but has a serious limitation...reminders don't work for any event except for ones in your primary calendar. This makes creating other calendars pretty much useless if you want to receive notifications for the events.
- Aelbric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was just about to post about webpage embedding too. Being able to embed a Google calendar into a webpage is my wish. ANyone know how to make it happen yet?
- ceekay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1props to google for using vi keys (j for down/next, k for up/prev, / for search) in their web apps.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not to mention that you have to be IN the browser, AT calendar.google.com in order to get the alert.
- scarper86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Anyone see a way to "sync" with outlook?"
A Google spokesperson said they're working on it. - anorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"It's obvious they originally set out to have it operate within gmail by looking at the interface. No other google offering has a similar interface to gmail except calendar."
In addition to google pages, google groups also has a very similar interface. - stratoskater, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8dont u kind of think that you can just find the shortcuts yourself. do u really want a topstory on diggnation tellin that "Google Calendar has shortcut keys! It's amazing!" of course not!!! so let the non n00bish people figure this out themselves
- nuebee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do we really need to digg such obvious things?
- shade73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1IMHO I would love to see gmail be the main interface (like outlook) with a calendar hyperlink that instead of opening a new window just removes the mail section of it and puts in the calendar section (just like outlook does now). I would also like to see a hyperlink for groups that does the same thing. I use them all and it's kind of a pain to always have 3 tabs open no matter what, and flipping back and forth is a pain too. I mean it would at least be nice if they'd give you that option.
ALSO: google calendar needs to have views (Week,Month etc) set by calendar, not globally. Anyone else agree with that? - Dolemack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Imagine if it worked like Inbox.com
- 52tease, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only way for people to do this is to create their own google calendar and "search" for your public calendar. They would then add that calendar to their own to see your events. You could also make the ICAL link to your calendar available and they could add it directly by clicking "add calendar" followed by "Public Calendar Address" and inputting your ICAL formatted calendar.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i would much rather have google maps/local integration. calendars are for real-life events : it would be great to physically map out your day
- phelonius, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6i think it is really annoying if you get all these links on digg that you can find by simply pressing help
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1does anyone know how to get a direct link to the calendar? I want to provide a link on my website to my google calendar and have my calendar display in the browser to who ever clicks on the link. It seems as though this is not possible, there is no direct link to calendar that I can share. Only a ical link and a xml link which wants me to download something. what gives?
- TheComputerMutt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The only time it was slow for me was when I accidently added the event "work" to every day for six months at once. After deleting them, it's been blazing fast.
EDIT: Oops. Meant to reply to post by "thebeaz" below this one. - japface, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"It's obvious they originally set out to have it operate within gmail by looking at the interface. No other google offering has a similar interface to gmail except calendar."
not true, simply look at google pages, that has a similar look at feel. - vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -4/+4sorry but this is lame - even if kevinrose dugg it.
i'd expect this if it was hidden in the source code with no docs for it but this is the official doc link.
(edit: should be reply to previous parent comment) - bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm thinking about posting a Digg about this Digg which references the BLEEDING GOOGLE CALENDAR HELP PAGE. Jeez, bro. While I appreciate the effort, this one is a wee bit obvious.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0no one has answered my question, is it not possible or what? and google help page and google groups dont answer my question either. here is the question again:
does anyone know how to get a direct link to the calendar? I want to provide a link on my website to my google calendar and have my calendar display in the browser to who ever clicks on the link. It seems as though this is not possible, there is no direct link to calendar that I can share. Only a ical link and a xml link which wants me to download something. what gives?.... even cheap online calendar like www.localendar.com offer this service - abstrakone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Anyone see a way to "sync" with outlook? Importing and exporting over and over would suck.
- tzvik2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i still think the only good thing that happend lately by googl is there new buttons toolbar...
check out the seen on www.gbuttons.com - diggitydank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Is this all it takes to get a story to the front page? Wow. I am hesitant to post a story because most of the things I read come off of sites like digg. I figure if I am seeing it, then diggnation must have seen it about a month before me. Maybe I will just post every page out of the Google Calendar help file. I am bound to get something on the front page.
Kevin, you can do better. - disgust, on 10/12/2007, -22/+2the woes of another beta, eh? wonder when half of these things will finally get out of beta. seems like the assignment to that category is almost meaningless, really.
