- Imagine3, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39The goal of this is not to raise money...well it is, but not really. I am a cyclist and have taken part in a few LAF events. The Foundation has tons of money, they get donations all the time. The purpose of this and many of its other campaigns is to raise awareness. Raise the awareness of all those people who refuse to open their eyes and realize that cancer is a fight that has to be taken up. To make cancer a disease that has a face instead of being faceless. To make you aware that although you may not have been affected by it, millions around the world have.
I LIVESTRONG FOR MY GRANDMOTHER. - silentauthority, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Be humane.
Are all the LiveStrong bracelets a total scam too? Are non-profit organizations scams if they attempt to get someone to donate? Sort out your priorities, you act so offended about a website that asks nothing of you but to help make a collage. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Just tell a little lie! select any state and you're fine.
- portis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Did you even donate any money yourself? Instead of calling the amount weak, let's see you donate at least 10% of your monthly income.
- tuxmelvin, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20Let's hope nobody submits Goatse.
- Spazkake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I'm gunna upload a screenshot of Diggnation ;)
- ddrirc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13It's a nice thing, but you'd think they could afford a bit more than 25k. Still great though.
- Daem0nX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'm with the crowd that thinks 25k is pretty small. We have two huge companies here that could probably pretty easily do 25 Million - I'm sure they both get to write off some of the donation too. However, I'm all for 25k instead of $0. I'm also with jaypee68 - Charity and politics shouldn't be together all the time.
- antivirus88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8to those who are mad because they aren't just donating money, you are incredibly stupid. By making this donation the charity has a means of interacting with the people, bringing more than 25k in. The 25k offer along with the collage is just a means of attracting others who are generous enough to donate. You clearly know nothing of charity politics.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8By having people upload a photo, click a link, buy a bracelet they also help to raise awareness. Bracelets are especially nice, if legitimate, because people ask you "What's that bracelet for?" and then you can answer and help spread the awareness even more.
- chris.kelvie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Every picture is reviewed.
- lavawalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The Livestrong foundation is getting a lot of success: Nike, HP. I'm glad that they're doing well.
- jaypee68, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Hey I got an idea. Instead of AMD and the various million and billion dollar companies always saying "upload this", "upload that", "send in a label", "buy a ribbon", "blah blah blah etc.." and we'll donate a dollar to fightwhatevercauseisinneed.com, how about they just donate money because it's the right thing to do.
The importance of fighting any kind of disease or ailment shouldn't be determined by the amount of people from the general public sending in a freakin label from a soup can. - samKreuzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Only for the USA. :(
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11as much as id like to disbelieve, JohnboiWaltune is right about stuff like this. Pharmaceutical industries dont actually want to cure diseases, they want people on their drugs for the sole reason of producing profit.
A lot of people are evil. :( - Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5http://www.livestrongpc.com/share/index.php
Those are the accepted images :) - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just did it :-D .Awesome idea.
- dark_helmet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4434 diggs and only 334 photos. C'mon guys you can do better than taht

This belly is gonna blow hit the dirt..... - mrtwista, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You are a jackass. You can't spell (Sheryl) and do you have any idea the type of strain that cancer can put on a relationship? My mother got breast cancer last year and I watched my dad (at 66 yrs old) give everything he could physically, emotionally, and financially to make sure my mom would survive this ordeal. My mother is now healthy, but my father is spent in every sense of the word. He has no more to give. Most people in this situation walk away from the other person.
Now take Lance. The most driven man on the planet and add his desire to return the most physically demanding sport and ask yourself if you would still stick by him. Yes his wife left him and they are no more, and yes he dated Sheryl Crow (who just found out she had cancer), but that does not make him a tool? Hell No. The man is all about family values and if you paid any attention to the headlines in his life you would know that Lance is back trying to correct his relationship with his ex-wife.
That said, I think this is a great way to raise awareness. I too think they could donate more, but that would defeat the purpose of the project.
http://www.edzdesign.com/?p=24 - jtibble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And if it was a picture you got off the internet anyway...
you don't have to worry too much about loosing the rights. - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They're not maknig any money by having people visit the site... They're losing it by allowing people to upload photos.
- mbac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I appreciate the intent, but $25K is really low for companies with those budgets...
By the way, I've read the fine print, and I wonder why the agreement couldn't just say: "By submitting this pic, you understand we will show it on this website and related marketing material."
Instead, they just make you waive all rights to your picture. I'm not sure this would hold in court, but it's scary to think that sending a pic of your kids means you lose all rights to show that photo in public ever again. And all other rights regarding the pic...
"and (ii) submitter hereby assigns all rights, titles, and interests in and to the images and descriptions (including derivative and moral rights) to the Sponsor. " - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"All submissions become the sole property of Sponsor, may be used by Sponsor for any purpose and in any media whatsoever (without further compensation or review), and will not be returned. Sponsor reserves the right to crop, alter, modify, or distort any submitted image or description."
I'm more than happy to upload an image, but why the legal statement? What reason could they have to possibly want to keep the images we post? Sounds to me like HP is going to use this for their print advertisements. I think it would be a little less greedy if they didnt require that they become the sole owner of the image you are uploading. - Sapperlite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This might be old news but just to refresh peoples knowledge, AMD and HP have other programs that donate to the LAF. HP has an L2000 Lance Armstrong Notebook (AMD Turon powered) that for every purchase made $50 is donated to the LAF (I own one, great laptop). Also, AMD has promised 4 million dollars to the fund as well. I commend both for supporting a great cause. I uploaded a photo to show support as well. Come on Digg community lets GIT-R-DUN to fight cancer!!
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sure, it'd be great if people just gave money to charities without the charity having to do anything at all. It'd be much easier for them.
Unfortunately we live in the *real world* and money doesn't just flow to charity. Schemes like this promote awareness and OK, HP/AMD might get a little bit of exposure too, but if it helps the people in need, who gives a crap? - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I uploaded a photo, everyone on digg should also.. it doesn't cost you anything but a minute, and it's for a good cause..
- Vigacmoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's so not cool, people outside of america just can't participate this
- oyourmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2saying cancer cant be cured is like saying we cant make something go more than 100mph, at one point in time it might not have been possible, but now its easy. it took time and effort but we sure did get there
- LooterMcBeer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your right it can be cured i just feel like the goverment holds back the progress of it. The sad part about the LAF is all the haters who dont understand what its about and just wanna bitch about bracelets and have no idea the meaning behind them other then some fashion trend. I bought over 500 bracelets and change out when one wears out and will until i have no more bracelets.
I LIVESTRONG FOR MY MOM. - redivider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Read a biology textbook, please. Cancer can be reduced or eliminated once found, but it can't be 'cured' or 'vaccinated' because our immune system has no way of fighting it, like it does for real diseases."
Not now it can't. But that's exactly his point. And I'm having a hard time understanding your point.
So, cancer will never be cured simply because our immune system can't fight it off? What if there were a way to prevent it from ever happening in the first place? I'd call that a cure. Just because no one can figure it out now, doesn't mean it's impossible.
One discovery leads to another. Penicillin was an accident. Stuff just happens. Cancer gets cured. Nothing lasts forever... - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's true, it clearly says you can't upload business or website logos. or any image that promotes a website.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Portuguese / Brazilian : http://www.htk.com.br/noticia.php?noticia=347

http://www.htk.com.br/ - redivider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Everyone is getting a little too hot and bothered about the legal stuff.
This is not an exclusive agreement. They are just saying that they have the right to use the "submission" in any way they need to and the don't have to pay you. You can keep the original photo and do whatever you want with it. They have to do this to protect themselves from people who would submit photos and then try to sue them saying they don't have the rights to use it.
No one's trying to get you to give away the rights to your family photos. Chill the F out. - casiotone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I had a real reply but really all I have to say is you are retarded.
- Imagine3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The bracelets are meant to raise awareness jackass
- redivider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Charity shouldn't have politics. An attitude of "scratch my back and I'll donate to cancer research" is just plain wrong. Politics have no business being involved in keeping people alive.
We live in a time where life is more precious than ever, technology is being researched and used every day to keep people living longer and to have an attitude where little Jack and Jill won't get a cancer cure because not enough people scratched the backs of corporate america is total *****."
Interesting comment. Unfortunately you completely misunderstand the whole idea. It has nothing to do with back scratching corporate america. It has everything to do with giving people an opportunity to be a part of something and come together to show support. A lot of the people that get involved in this will learn about cancer research and decide to donate their own money as well.
If AMD just quietly donated 25k, that's all it would be. This way thousands of people are involved and a lot more money is raised. - DIGGADEEP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+125k isnt much but u all act as if thats the only amount they'll ever give..
- Goya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+125k may not be much, but I think the purpose of this is to get people around the internet involved and 'connected' to the cause. Once involved there is a better chance you may stay involved, and a slight chance you would donate some of your own $ instead of a picture next time.
- lroche, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cancer can be cured. I believe that it can. And we're actually doing pretty good. I'm doing a research paper on the history of breast cancer. The odds of survivial are much greater now than ever before. It used to be a death sentence.
I livestrong for my dad. - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Read a biology textbook, please. Cancer can be reduced or eliminated once found, but it can't be 'cured' or 'vaccinated' because our immune system has no way of fighting it, like it does for real diseases.
- drew12689, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it kind of reminds me of milliondollerhomepage except with real pics
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They're individually reviewed, and it says in the Terms that you can't upload logos.
- redivider, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"as much as id like to disbelieve, JohnboiWaltune is right about stuff like this. Pharmaceutical industries dont actually want to cure diseases, they want people on their drugs for the sole reason of producing profit.
A lot of people are evil. :("
He's right? Really? Based on what? Should I just take your word for it? I'm sure you've done the research.
I'm not saying I can prove anything either way, but it's certainly not as black and white as that. You can't just make a blanket statement like "pharmaceutical industries dont actually want to cure diseases" and expect to be taken seriously by anyone other than conspiracy theorists and angry teenagers. - sunsetN!nja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Have to clear this up. Lance did not even meet his first wife (Kik) until he was in remission. He met her while setting up the LAF well after he had been declared so. So you could call him a tool if that's your opinion, but don't jump to conclusions.
- mpeters13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1hmm. 4chan anyone?
- willyummy69, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3i am growing sick of lance armstrong. congratulations you beat cancer man, but as soon as you (lance) get healthy you leave your wife who stuck by your side throughout the ordeal for cheryl crow? weak. i have no doubt that charity helps people. good for them. but lance armstrong is a tool.
- macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1uhm. Kaiser is a NON PROFIT COMPANY. Meaning they make no money off you. Also you can't sue but of course you couldn't in the first place since you sign papers before you go for surgery. If they messed up on my blood test, it would be them to blame, but it wouldn't be their fault. If you belong to a hospital that is for-profit, then good luck and get the hell out of there, lol.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2retarded is the easiest way to say it. i'm not going to waste my time writing a real reply to this *****.
