Underwater Volcano Erupts (video)
livescience.com — New videos show the first ever observations of deep submarine volcanic eruptions. Most of the Earth's volcanic activity happens underwater, anywhere from the surface all the way down to depths greater than 2.5 miles. However, this underwater activity has rarely been seen directly.

The 2nd one is better IMHO, you can actually see the ash deposit building up. Give it a few million more years of eruption and we might have a new Hawaii.
I wish we had some idea of scale, though. - warox, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0dupe post b/c im crazy

- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I could only think of Boards Of Canada upon seeing this article.
"When lava pours out near the sea's surface, tremendous volcanic explosions sometimes occur." - Nighthawke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Underwater eruptions are just as dangerous if not more so than land based events. One diver filming a underwater vent off the Hawiian Islands nearly got knocked out by a gas bubble exploding when it came in contact with the colder sea water. If the diver did, he would have sank to the sea floor and possibly maimed or killed by the heat.
These days they prefer to use ROVs as in this case. Pricey little suckers, ($25K plus) but well worth preserving one's life in case mother nature should take exception to someone getting nosy around her vents. - digger_twit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Direct Link to Video - http://www.livescience.com/php/video/metagen.php?fmt=q&vid=brimstone01&adv=
