- FishHammer, on 07/07/2008, -2/+45WILL IT MAKE THE PRE-EXISTING VOICES IN MY HEAD STOP SCREAMING?!?!
- datagod, on 07/07/2008, -2/+40Oh...I at first I thought it said "Weapon will microwave STEAM inside your skull". Sounded painful.
Screams? Pffff...it would have to be pretty loud to make any difference with all the voices already screaming in my head... - btschul, on 07/07/2008, -2/+34This technology could easily be abused.
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -4/+30Microwave scream + Microwave Heat Wave = Insta-Cancer
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -4/+27Um
Shopping with women in shopping malls... there are already screams in my head!!! - lucy22, on 07/06/2008, -5/+25This is a scary device. Shopping malls, LOL
- Lawrencesss, on 07/06/2008, -4/+23If they are able to put sound into peoples heads, why not just broadcast "Flo Rider" across the battlefield.
Everyone will be in agony. Wingame. - punkcat, on 07/07/2008, -1/+18The Spork
- flyguyjm, on 07/07/2008, -4/+20This would make a great Rickroll, beamed directly into your head.
- btschul, on 07/07/2008, -0/+15The Clapper
- Pake, on 07/07/2008, -0/+15That or anything from Soulja Boy, but it probably depends on whether you want to just torture them or have them commit suicide.
- segiterrus, on 07/07/2008, -7/+22Hello Big Brother, I am no thought criminal
- ThatEvilGuy, on 07/07/2008, -0/+14The future looks and sounds scary.

- SimonTB, on 07/07/2008, -0/+13Cardboard boxes.
- Disillusion, on 07/07/2008, -0/+13The first time a commercial is beamed into my head without consent, that device is getting smashed.
- ileftfark, on 07/07/2008, -4/+17I'm pretty sure Abercrombie is still trying to deploy the Gay Bomb.
Yes, it's for real. Kinda: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_bomb - CiXeL, on 07/07/2008, -0/+10it seems like the world is turning into the scariest dystopia ever imagined
- emmanuelsotelo, on 07/07/2008, -7/+17Brain cancer anyone?
- ElBeh, on 07/07/2008, -2/+12I, TOO, SUFFER FROM CALLIOPEAN VOCAL SYNDROME
- Xill, on 07/07/2008, -0/+9Anyone that think this is cool has no idea how bad this is for both your mental and physical health. Specially when you have huge microwave stations like HAARP that can send them over large populated area.
- noahhoward, on 07/07/2008, -0/+8Transmit != recieve.
- Megaten, on 07/07/2008, -1/+9'Cardboard boxes' Tell that to Solid Snake...

- neopolaris, on 07/07/2008, -1/+8No, you're possibly just of of the few who can see.
- norman619, on 07/07/2008, -5/+12Lack of understanding of what microwaves are and how they interact with your body anyone?
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -3/+10What technology can't?
- monkeystick, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7Cooking times may vary depending on wattage of microwave weapon.
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -1/+7I recall reading about this a while back, and the author kept saying microwave but it was really ultrasound. The medusa acronym looks more like it would apply to ultrasound not microwave.
If you look at one of the linked sources http://blog.wired.com/defense/2008/05/army-removes ...
that claims microwave but the frequency in question per the drawing is 15khz, certainly not microwave (RF > 1mhz) but could easily be ultrasound.
So I am skeptical about whether or not its really microwave or not. - artofficial, on 07/07/2008, -1/+7cotton balls
- diggduggjoe, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Ionizing radiation is not the only way you get cancer, though. Some chemical reactions could occur with heavy use of such technology, but we are blasted with MWs all the time from law enforcement, door openers, etc.
The only risk would be if this addition source of energy will provide for troublesome chemical reactions. Time will tell. Everything is safe until the "Holy *****!" moment and suddenly it will be common sense that it was evil. That is the usual cycle with such things.
Another issue may be psychological. Some people who may be barely holding it together may be pushed over the edge with voices in their head occurring. Wild tech, though. - inactive, on 07/07/2008, -0/+6Here's an optimistic solution: Use them to communicate with the deaf? Depending on how a deaf person would interpret the sound...
- Modiga, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5You say spork technology cannot be abused, well I beg to differ http://xkcd.com/419/
- fatfonzie, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5non lethal weapons will be the death of us all.
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5AP News - 4 July 2010: Digg reader goes postal, killing everyone inside a shopping center after being spammed mentally for the hundredth time. As quoted from the killer, "I just couldn't take it any more. Spam is bad enough to read on the web, but now they are invading my private space. I lost it. Sorry. lol".
- FredFredrickson, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4The day someone starts beaming commercials into my head with a device like this is the day I punch the person operating this machine in the face.
- spawnfree, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4"George, you need to invade Iraq. Make it happen. Also; Iran"
"OK dokey God. You make me feel special."
"You are special George. You are very special" - CGillett, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4So, where do I sign up for the resistance?
- dacheetah, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4I have a friend who can't touch cotton balls without getting a painful reaction.
Cotton balls can be abused. - PabloMac, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4I'm schizophrenic.
And so am I. - Khast, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4As they talked about subliminal possibilities...are you sure you'd want such in shopping malls? And if it proves to be effective, I can see it put in places of religion, or other places where complete control would be ideal.
I could see the Scientologists utilizing this to keep members from falling away. Messages from god perhaps?
Anyways, I am not too sure I like where technology is leading us...I think there is some really serious problems coming up in the not too distant future... I do not embrace these ideas, as they could lead to more problems than the human race has ever known... - lateralus, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4Hopefully they're targeting Hot Topic and Abercrombie & Fitch (for kids).
- zebragrrl, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Any weapon that involves mounting a big red Lego to a tank.. gets my vote.
- alphasixtyone, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3holy *****, the future has arrived.
- dacheetah, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3You can cause pain without causing damage.
At the simplest form you can use tiny electrical pulses on nerves to get them to send the pain signal to the brain without doing any damage. You'd have to make it rather intense or prolonged before it will cause any psychological damage or reaction based physical damage either.
Hell, you could even get someone to feel placebo pain if you can convince them well enough that they should be in pain, and that sure as hell won't cause physical damage, let alone cancer. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I will find the design for this before the end of the year and shortly thereafter you will see internaltional laws against these devices. ;-P
