UStream.tv negotiating $50 million sale to Microsoft
valleywag.com — Sources tell Valleywag that lifecasting startup UStream.tv is in advanced discussions with Microsoft to acquire UStream for more than $50 million. We have no official word from either company, but we are extremely confident in the accuracy of this story.

- FirstDigg, on 02/08/2008, -0/+5UStream really does what they do well so I'm not surprised. It's kind of funny though that this is going down right now and yahoo launched their own clone of ustream just yesterday (live.yahoo.com) and it didn't stand up. Also on that topic, why did they name it live? Isn't that microsoft's term? Haha. Anyway, if the rumor's true, way to go ustream.
- DigiDave, on 02/09/2008, -0/+2It powers The Drill Down - it can't be that bad.
- treelovinhippie, on 02/09/2008, -2/+1Why the ***** would you spend $50mil for something like this? ... how are you going to monetize it in any way shape or form to recover that cost?
- WeepinAngel, on 02/19/2008, -0/+0There must be something I don't get about companies purchasing companies. If Microsoft pays Ustream.tv $50 million, and then Ustream.tv belongs to Microsoft, wouldn't that be essentially free? Because that would be investing into a company that is to be yours, therefore not loosing ANYTHING; because you get the money too?
I really hope Ustream.tv doesn't become another Microsoft product. Everything I do with Microsoft takes forever…
