- Gemfinder, on 12/07/2007, -2/+62Sick. Drunk drivers who kill people get lighter sentences.
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -4/+62As much as I despise American politics, this ***** isn't confined to the U.S.A. It's human nature. Rich ***** will do everything they can to stick it to the lower class. The rich make the rules and that's why these laws don't make any sense. They're not supposed to make sense, they're supposed to generate dollars and cents for the rich.
- cnot3, on 12/07/2007, -0/+42Murderers and rapists get lighter sentences.
- tingrin87, on 12/07/2007, -1/+42and they think this will stop people from downloading movies....
- Khast, on 12/07/2007, -2/+37Welcome to America, we have the best Democracy money can buy!

Yeah, uploading an MP3 fits right in there... - SaladCactusKing, on 12/07/2007, -1/+27ugh
"Not surprisingly, some of the supporters of the bill, such as Howard Berman, received thousands of dollars in campaign donations from the music and the movie industry. Yes, these anti-piracy politicians are funded by the MPAA and the RIAA.
This is so ***** dirty. - RandomGorilla, on 12/07/2007, -1/+24If I were convicted to ten ***** years in prison for a MOVIE, I'd probably try and kill the prosecuting lawyers or the judge just to give an actual MEANING to why I'd be in jail for that long. If nothing else it might be an incentive just to keep other inmates from laughing at me when they find out why I'm in San Quentin sharing a cell with a guy who killed 42 people in a nightclub using only a broken whiskey bottle and his left testicle.
- GRiley007, on 12/07/2007, -8/+30Ron Paul isn't gonna fix this, this kind of thing is systemic in politics in general. America's political system must have some very scratched backs by now.
- DaMacGamer, on 12/07/2007, -1/+22Yeah, if 10 years in jail and $500,000 wasn't enough to stop you in the first place, adding more probably isn't going to do a whole lot.
- MeThePeople, on 12/07/2007, -0/+21so what are you in for? oh i raped a baby then ate it, how bout you?
me, well i downloaded the new alvin and the chipmunks movie. - contractcentral, on 12/07/2007, -4/+25Meanwhile our ports and borders are wide open, 6 years after 9/11.
- qpn6ph9q, on 12/07/2007, -0/+19*cringe* at "lots of sex"
- h4mx0r, on 12/07/2007, -1/+19Are they eventually going to throw on the death penalty at this rate? Jeez, we gotta find a way to stop this bs from continuing in one big bad loop.
- nogami, on 12/07/2007, -0/+18Yup, because we all know that making stuff illegal makes it go away...
- Damian91, on 12/07/2007, -0/+17The sad part is that many innocent people(parents) will be screwed because of their children getting caught because of it. I've already read stories of such sad events.
- Chris_F, on 12/07/2007, -1/+17$500,000 and 10 years not enough? You bet your ass its not. I say we institute a no-trial death sentence policy for piracy offenders. Just skip all that democracy bull ***** and go right to the public execution. If a 14 year-old boy torrents a movie, he should be publicly hung, and his closest relatives bound and shot with black bags over their heads. Make that sorry son of a bitch think about what he did in the next life. After all that is the very least you could expect for the criminal act he committed. Seriously, how else where there be peace? How else will those studio execs be able to sleep safely at night?
- pehpsi, on 12/07/2007, -1/+16You can get less for murder these days (sigh)........ *I want to live in the bush by myself and leave reality behind*
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -0/+15well technically you are better off raping someone then downloading a porn flick from torrents. God damn, how stupid can the jack ass politicians can be.
- falafelkiosken, on 12/07/2007, -0/+14Jeez, in my country you hardly get 10 years for murder, who wrote that law (oh, right, it was RIAA)
- iie.wakarimasen, on 12/07/2007, -1/+15its amazing how much of these types of things just pass right under our noses, yet its the government that's condoning it.
- sporg, on 12/07/2007, -1/+14After reading this I'm going to start seeding some new movies and burn 10 more DVD's. Then Im going to drink some coffee and gloat.
- PistolSO, on 12/07/2007, -1/+14Congress needs to stop trying to save businesses from their own horrid business models. First Bush wants to put a five-year freeze on ARM rates, and now this garbage. P2P is the future...co-opt it, use it as a tool, don't try to put the genie back into the bottle.
- Chris_F, on 12/07/2007, -0/+12Well I'll be sure to just kill someone instead the next time I feel the urge to download a film. As far as these people are concerned that's the right mentality. After all loss of life is MUCH more acceptable than loss of revenue. GOD forbid that we don't make our growing profit goal this year. There is only one thing that can be as dangerous as a government, and that is a corporation. And well if the two start to work for each other, God help us all.
- Khast, on 12/07/2007, -1/+13First it's the Homegrown Terrorists act, where the sheer thought that our government is bad, gets you labeled as a terrorist."
Then this.
I'd hate to be the person who downloads a politically charged MP3 or Movie...then you'd get a double slap.
America, we are known as the home of the free. Yet the Bush administration has implemented things that we accused the Nazis of.....and that isn't enough?
People, our forefathers fought for our freedom, why do we just sit and let our current government take it away? Is it because you think they are protecting us from terrorism, by taking away our freedom? Freedom isn't something that can be preserved on a shelf, you have to use it, or it goes bad.
If you think this hasn't been foretold? Look no further than George Orwell's 1984....just we're a few years off. - PopcornDave, on 12/07/2007, -0/+11No, I think the next step is a mandatory jail sentence for *not buying* the crap they're trying to push down our throats.
/sarcasm (hopefully) - GoneFishing, on 12/07/2007, -1/+12People in power will do all they can to stay in power.
- colobikeguy, on 12/07/2007, -1/+12The euro blue card is starting to look awfully tempting.
- Amric, on 12/07/2007, -0/+11You forgot user F that stabs you with a knife... or perhaps you didn't.
After all you must all agree that copying ones and zeros is WAY worse than stabbing someone... Right? :p
What?!? You mean you don't? How strange :p - kensai111, on 12/07/2007, -4/+14Ron Paul is one of the two congressmen who went against this bill, what exactly are you doing to rectify the situation? So shut your face.
- Mast3rDigg3r, on 12/07/2007, -1/+10not really devil's advocate
- capiCrimm, on 12/07/2007, -3/+12you know what we could use. Some mandatory minimum sentences.
/sarcasm - PopcornDave, on 12/07/2007, -0/+8Okay, the bottle I get, but the testicle? He beat them to death?
- actorboy, on 12/07/2007, -2/+10A politician paying off votes with special favors? Isn't that what you guys wanted Paul to stop?
- mr5150, on 12/07/2007, -0/+8Yeh! they'll fix the problem right up....LOL
Meanwhile non of this means jack to the Chines who are the ultimate copyright violators.
I swear this country is just getting so friggin' stupid. - roodammy44, on 12/07/2007, -0/+8Really, they're all the same crime (copyright infringement).
You seem to completely miss the point.
You can be put in jail for copyright infringement as long as for *murder*. And they want to increase the sentence!
It's an insane world we live in. - qpn6ph9q, on 12/07/2007, -1/+8I have been trying to find any tiny ray of hope that this legislation would find an innovative way to not protect the an elite cartel of copyright holders who refuse to concede that their profit margins are extortionate, their business models are out of step with technology and their shameful practices do not benefit the artists or the citizenry in general.
I'm afraid that glimmer of hope has just extinguished. - jdaniel284, on 12/07/2007, -2/+9Ignore the negative comments, Idura. There are still a few of us out here who are aware and who don't reflexively turn to sarcasm in place of logic.
- TitanX13, on 12/07/2007, -1/+8can we impeach the entire goverment?
/sarcasm - Flatline75, on 12/07/2007, -0/+7I wonder when will copyright infringement become a capital crime eligible for death sentence..
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -0/+6we really just need to confiscate EVERYone's property, and put EVERYone in jail, forEVER. PERIOD. it's the only solution. i don't know why they're taking so long to realize it. ***** pussies. it's those goddamn liberals holding them back.
- sk11, on 12/07/2007, -3/+9Democracy moves power from the elites (wealthy) to the masses. Ordinary Americans need to make it clear that the rampant corruption and bribery in their political system is definitely not ok. Stop being lazy pussies and boot lickers and start protesting, democracy isn't some automatic certainty, it has to be reinforced continually.
Good luck America. - counterplex, on 12/07/2007, -0/+6I think RandomGorilla means that he used just half the usual amount of testosterone to do the job.
- actorboy, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5Our forefathers implemented the first U.S. copyright law:
http://www.cit.cornell.edu/policy/copyright/primer ... - dracostimpy, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5You told me you were hardcore, but DAMN!!! I ain't never shooting a film in any language you understand, and I definitely won't be adding subtitles!
- MacEnvy, on 12/07/2007, -1/+6Their copyright laws (especially in places like Germany) are becoming as bad as ours here in the States. This is an international problem, and stems from widespread corruption in government and (what should be illegal) collusion in the media industry.
- dynacrylic, on 12/07/2007, -5/+10"According to a group of lawmakers, 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine is not a severe enough sentence for copyright infringement in the US. So, a new bill is proposed to strengthen civil and criminal intellectual property laws and increase penalties for offenders."
Well let's see- get convicted and you get to have 10 years rent free with meals, free cable tv, lots of sex, plenty of time to read and exercise. Not a bad deal.
I'm not sure where they think someone will get the half million in fines though... Maybe that's why I never became a politician or lawyer. - colobikeguy, on 12/07/2007, -3/+8I took the liberty of drafting a proposed amendment to the Constitution in the interest of honesty... maybe not fairness... but I figured one out of two is a good start:
"Section. 6. The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law DRAFTED UNDER THE ADVICE OF THE BUSINESS INTERESTS OF THE UNITED STATES, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States AND THE BUSINESS INTERESTS OF THE UNITED STATES. They shall in all Cases [[, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace,]] be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place."
BOLD mean add language.
[[]] means redact the enclosed. -
