- thewibbler, on 12/21/2008, -0/+1What I mean is that everything I need can be served to me on a 1.5Mbps line. BBC IPlayer, high bandwidth websites, Youtube etc. If they really are going to crack down on bittorrent, I'd be fascinated (genuinely) to know what the extra bandwidth can be used for.
- amigiac, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1They will still have peak hours bandwidth capping however, so you will be able to get you bandwidth capped even quicker now.
The bigger story here is that bittorrent will not be allowed. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/12/16/virgin_bit ... - amigiac, on 12/16/2008, -0/+1Seconded! What is he downloading? :D
- thewibbler, on 12/14/2008, -0/+1Awesome contrived spin on the story but the submitter. There is no mention of Phorm in this article, it only mentions Virgin launching the fastest broadband in the UK.
Also, sidenote: I run a web business and download a lot, and I'm perfectly fine on a 1.5Mbps line. Why all this need for speed?! - grimfandango, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1"I run a web business and download a lot, and I'm perfectly fine on a 1.5Mbps line. Why all this need for speed?!"
That's a contradiction - how can you be downloading "a lot" on a 1.5Mbps line?! And asking why people need a fast connection is admitting you don't have a clue what they're doing. - darrenforster99, on 12/15/2008, -0/+0It's really good news that Virgin are speeding up their broadband. My friend went to Sweden recently to see her friends and was so shocked that they have over 100mbps there! It's about time the UK ISPs caught up with the rest of the world, because of the way BT still hangs onto ye olde copper wire network though it could be many years before we see the 1000mbps fibre optic network. BT needs to set about changing all their wires to fibre, like Virgin are doing, or else the British phone network will go the same way as the British rail network - old and outdated.
I am really surprised to see that Virgin are starting the roll out in Warrington. I live in Warrington and didn't think there was loads of people in Warrington on Virgin, I know quite a few of my friends are on Virgin after I recommended it as a cheaper alternative to BT. I know also Warrington was the first place to get BT broadband many years ago, but that was primarily because the major north west phone exchange is in Warrington, and nothing really to do with the amount of people who had the service.
