- PhillyOC, on 07/13/2009, -12/+58What do Twitter users and Best Buy employees have in common?
They're all douchebags.
You really didn't think there was a punchline, did you? - Kojangie, on 07/13/2009, -14/+54***** Twitter.
- hoobied, on 07/13/2009, -0/+38I actually think it's pretty cool that they are expanding beyond "traditional" measurements of qualification, and hope that other companies follow suit with requirements like:
Ascii Art Proficiency
Level 80 Tauren Shaman
Extensive Library of Chuck Norris Jokes
Can mine 3.6 million ISK per hour
Natural Eye for Optimal Lolcat Caption Placement
and more... - FallingDonkey, on 07/13/2009, -4/+38Does it really need to be said? It does.
***** Best Buy. - inactive, on 07/13/2009, -2/+29I signed up, posted one message "I have no idea what to use this piece of ***** for", and now I have 10 followers. Maybe one day I'll be good enough to work at Best Buy.
- spookyttws, on 07/13/2009, -3/+28What if don't want 250 random people to see my micro blog? I guess I'm not qualified to work at Best Buy.
- mark076h, on 07/13/2009, -0/+25digg friends? I got rid of all mine, they all sucked anyways just wanted me to digg there crap than removed me when i did not digg anything then spammed me with shouts.
- masterstghm, on 07/13/2009, -1/+16Do they do interviews via Facebook chat and Windows Live?
- ubernoggin, on 07/13/2009, -2/+16How many digg friends do you need?
- PhillyOC, on 07/13/2009, -1/+12I have none, nor do I want any.
- pikagrue, on 07/13/2009, -1/+11Over 9000 meme spam ability.
- oldhick, on 07/13/2009, -2/+11Maybe you shouldn't be friends with ***** on twitter. Trying being friends with people whom you like and appreciate.
- PhillyOC, on 07/13/2009, -1/+1010 followers? How would you like to be a store manager?
- oldhick, on 07/13/2009, -0/+8Whatever, you can get to 1,000 without breaking a sweat and 5,000 with a minimum of effort. Now why you would ever want 5,000 people to follow you unless you're using it for marketing, is beyond me.
- KingHarvest00, on 07/13/2009, -1/+9My followers are all sexbots. Does that count?
- enantiodromia, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7lol @ ISK mining
- zachstanley, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7Actually, I feel like I'd look at a potential employee more closely if he wrote his resume on a clay tablet. /just saying
- ShadowFusion, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7this is for "Emerging Media Marketing" so this position is designed to link best buy in with the twitter/facebook/etc hype and keep a positive image on these social networks... it's a legitimate request to have their applicants fluent in twitter and blogging community and have a decent sized following
- oldhick, on 07/13/2009, -0/+7You can secure twitter posts.
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -1/+7Believe it or not, there are still people out there who think Second Life is a marketing opportunity goldmine. These are the same people who want to "tweet" their way to increased sales.
Never mind that they effectively control the marketplace and only an idiot could ***** up their position now, they demand tweets! - Qumahlin, on 07/14/2009, -0/+6Yes, i've met quite a few Best Buy corporate employees. They are as inept as most of the floor staff at your average store and they are all douchebags.
Want a perfect example? Check out the CMO's blog
http://barryjudge.com - jrobbi, on 07/13/2009, -2/+7Even if they find someone with that many followers, that person won't know anything about electronics like all other employees at best buy .
- keysmachine, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4"this resume is excellent! however I do see you have not registered a twitter account, care to explain?"
"A twitter what?"
"we'll be in touch thank you" - jrm125, on 07/13/2009, -2/+6Apparently so is providing sub-par service and lurking behind you while looking at CDs.
- minoss, on 07/13/2009, -5/+9Um, it's for an Emerging Media Marketing position. Big deal.

That's like not knowing what an engine is when applying to be a car mechanic.
- zomgflamer, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4too much tech *****. Lets go back old school like taking face to face.
- Mujokan, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4Well, at least having a twitter account shows you have a certain level of tech awareness. I mean, you have to have an IQ above room temperature and opposable thumbs. At a very minimum, you could say that if someone is on twitter, then at least they couldn't be the dumbest ***** brain-dead moron on the face of the entire planet.
Oh wait... http://twitter.com/spencerpratt - tibbon, on 07/13/2009, -1/+4Why the hell is this getting dugg down. It makes sense it's for a senior manage of emerging media marketing. This is NOT for a low-level floor staff position. You realize that Best Buy has corporate positions that look NOTHING like those you've encountered at the Best Buy retail locations?
If a person in this position DIDNT know how to use social networks, then they probably aren't fit for the job. - yacks, on 07/13/2009, -2/+5Great now their 250 followers will be getting spammed by Best Buy...
- CoreyHalliwell, on 07/13/2009, -3/+6Twitter sucks. Best Buy Sucks.
- cbeach, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3[grabs a beer, kicks back and enjoys the outrage in the digg commenters] aah
- ionelementz112, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3A lot of those random people are actually spam/follow bots.
- merreborn, on 07/13/2009, -2/+4"However, an arbitrary number of Twitter followers will not separate the dabblers from the more meaningfully experienced, as was noted by employment experts quoted in the story."
If they're not total idiots, any qualified candidate should be able to explain exactly that in an interview. - NoNameWorks, on 07/13/2009, -2/+4its a joke your supposed to lol
- ShoujoKakumei, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2I've said it before, I'll say it again: Hating Twitter makes you cool!
Nevermind that this job is for what appears to be a social media-based marketing position. TWITTER STILL SUCKS BALLS OMG HOW ***** GAY LOLOLOL ONLY LOSERS USE TWITTER - inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2This is Best Buy we're talking about here. It's not some fly by night operation.
- -Jaguar-, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3I recently saw a job at a university that required "Skilled in social media such as Twitter and Facebook." I felt dumb writing "Facebook and Twitter user" on my resume. It's hardly a skill. Kids are as skilled as my parents at using Twitter and Facebook.
- Qumahlin, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Not exactly. There is a difference between using facebook and twitter to keep in touch with friends versus using it as a platform to keep an audience and this is coming from someone who hates social networking, but understands what these companies are looking for in this case.
- L0NER, on 07/14/2009, -1/+3turn off the fun
- yocouchdigga, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1A team player, someone with their head in the game.
- trebuchet1221, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1You also need 300 friends on facebook, and the interview is held over stickaim
- Qumahlin, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1You know, I use to completely agree with you about Spencer until I realized the entire thing is an act. After watching that horrible "i'm a celebrity.." show I realized exactly how much of his idiocy is an act...I can't say the same of Heidi, but Spencer clearly realized that acting like a complete moron and just spouting random ***** gets you more attention than "celebrities" who actually have talent.
Think about the fact that entertainment businesses actually PAY SPENCER to come to parties with Heidi and act like idiots...he realized acting like a male paris hilton would make him more successful than actually trying to get some talent and be in real entertainment. - Qumahlin, on 07/14/2009, -1/+2This isn't to work at some local best buy, this is to work in the MARKETING DEPARTMENT specifically tailored towards emerging media.
If your someone applying for a marketing job in this day and age with no sort of social networking background such as blogging or twitter, you may as well not apply. I really hate to say that, but its 100% true. So yes, if you don't want 250 people to read your micro blog, you probably won't have a very prominent career in marketing.
I'm not a supporter of best buy since lets face it, their prices are mediocre to ripoff and most of their staff is completely uneducated on the items they sell, but I do understand why they would have this on a job listing in the marketing department. - knobbysideup, on 07/14/2009, -1/+2twitter? buried.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Somehow I don't think BB just wants to use Twitter to let people know when they are eating the best organic sushi they've ever had at this great little place in Billyburg. I'd bet they want to use it in other ways.
- inactive, on 07/14/2009, -0/+0They are not looking to market with Twitter. They are looking for someone with experience with things like Twitter to head their emerging media department.
- KevinMalone, on 07/13/2009, -1/+1Twitter sucks, but Kenny Powers is awesome:
