- earlysound, on 11/02/2007, -3/+19I understand that Twitter isn't for everyone, but what I'm getting from the article is that more and more mainstream media outlets are either partnering with, or buying out, sites and services that once catered to the tech "elite." Whether you personally get something valuable out of Twitter or not isn't the discussion here -- it's more like "is nothing freaking sacred?" I'm happy for the Twitter guys, but I'm worried that the geeks are running out of places online to hide (read: hang out unsolicited by big media).
- Scopitone, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Anyone ever actually been to Twitter? "Sup, headin' to the sto' for some groceries". Thanks for the update, Scoop!
Hey internet people. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this but, not as many people give a damn about your day to day operations as you think and hope. - Rice, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Veronica, I know what you're talking about. I live in a fairly backwards (technologically) part of the states, and there was a long while that I was one of the few people from my town on Facebook. It was really nice, and very technie. I know that's not something you generally hear, that is, Facebook being tech elite, but it happened here, and I can empathize with your feeling of being isolated from big media or even "everyone else". I've always loved the idea of twitter, but I could never really use it because I had no one to read my posts. Perhaps that will change with this 'deal'. So, giving another perspective, I'm excited for this possible change.
By the way, get on BOL this week like Tom is hinting at! - pyrophire, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I will be deleting my twitter account now. Thanks MTV for ruining another thing you have no business in.
- seanc6610, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I dont think this is gonna work, because I dont think the people who use twitter now are the same people who are gonna give a ***** whether or not it's on MTV. and the people who see it on MTV already have their facebook, or their myspace, so I doubt it's gonna spark a twitter-ization of mainstream culture.
- livevil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Being a Geek is way better than being an MTV numb nut.
- bat-21, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Q-Tip just ate sushi. Woohoo!
- jman8888, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4""Just think about it: maybe, the next time you go to the local mall, that teenage girl texting on her cell phone in Abercrombie & Fitch just might be Twittering about how she like, OMG totally loves those cute zip-up hoodies.""
I just puked a little - jaydj, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Shortsighted,
Um... what the hell do you have to log into? Just text what you want to Twitter and then everyone who wants to get that message gets it however they want to get it (SMS, IM, email, RSS). Everyone who doesn't want to listen to you doesn't have to. You choose.
It's not just an away message and I don't use it in that capacity at all. I actually use it for texting in Australia because it saves me 20 cents/text per person. That means for me to tell 20 friends that I'm heading out for a drink and they can join me if they want, it would cost me $4.
I also use it as a reminder list for myself if i'm drinking a nice wine. If that helps someone else buy a nice wine... bonus.
I have also set up a private account for my gmail rss so that it can SMS me if I get an email and then I can decide whether it's important enough for me to click through and read. - tomzvrl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3This isn't the first time MTV and Twitter have joined forces. I believe that MTV did a similar thing with a "behind the scenes" Human Giant Twitter feed during this year's MTV Movie Awards, though I'm not sure how much that was advertised on the network (Twitter did send out an e-mail pimping the awards show).
- HunkieChan, on 10/10/2007, -9/+11hey look veronica submitted this, dugg!
- jjpertusch, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7WHY WHY!? WHO GIVES A ***** ABOUT TWITTER... aside from the whatever number of people who are signed up for it. build it into something like facebook or myspace, then i'd understand. but a standalone away message webpage? i sign up and, oh great, no one i know is on it. The people i WOULD call to tell to use twitter i could just call when i do stuff that i'd post on twitter. One call. instead of my logging it and posting, then them logging in or receiving a text.
call me shortsighted, but twitter?... NOPE. - TokyoGodfather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1lol
DUGG! - NyteStarNyne, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Not even a Veronica submission could make an MTV article bearable. Buried
- carbonetc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2MTV and Twitter are perfect for each other. They cater to the exact same attention spans.
- surfing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hoodies are so last fall!
- brian4572, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Wow MTV who the ***** cares about them anymore. Talk about junk.
- livevil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Aye Aye Cap'n! Finally we are seeing outlets voicing opinions on the choke holds that most corporations put on their users. Joining conglomerate media will put us backwards. I hope Digg doesn't sellout, you hear that Rose, or else we'll be outside with pitchforks and torches.
- melonhedd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yeah but no one cares about facebook or myspace either
- melonhedd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0No one does.
- nimble2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Remember what happened with Twitter during and after the last SXSW expo??
Remember the Twitter LOLCAT's. Can we expect a total Twitter shut down soon after MTV?? - indicas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1i was trying to remember the name of this site a couple days ago .. shows how much of a success it was!
- triskit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1i just joined because one of my favorite artists has one, and actually uses it.... http://twitter.com/QtipMusic i hope it doesn't go all mainstream and stupid like myspace or facebook.... :-P
- wisewaif, on 10/10/2007, -10/+8Who cares?
- warkro, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2The point is that sites like Twitter are there for the people who do give a damn.
- Markpdotcom, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Its hilarious to see how many Diggers hate twitter, and yet they keep posting their stories here and they keep getting dugg up by the same people.
Take a hint already! NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR POINTLESS WEBSITE!
Its just BBS but lamer! - philipv, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2Pownce FTW!

What is Digg?
