- Wildthing, on 11/24/2008, -14/+371Maybe I'm too old for it or something, but I really didn't see what the fuss with twitter was. All it seemed to me was something that you could update your status to so that your friends/stalkers could know your every move and feeling.

- kingmanic, on 11/24/2008, -6/+180$500 million in facebook stock.
So would you sell your house to me for $12 million in monopoly money? Neither would twitter. - CoreyTamas, on 11/24/2008, -1/+163You're right. Kind of a shame, really... because I was planning to use Twitter to share the best porn collection I've ever seen: http://www.
- cheesechoker, on 11/24/2008, -5/+164Twitter complaining that Facebook is over-valued? Oh, the irony.
- Stomper622, on 11/24/2008, -8/+148LOL @ Twitter. They must have a strict "make no money" policy.
- mileswj, on 11/24/2008, -7/+133But its facebook stock? Its not like its actual money. Facebook has reached its prime already.
- subigo, on 11/24/2008, -5/+119$500 Million in Facebook stock... Might as well have offered them a bag of ***** and a McDonald's gift certificate.

- iNunchuk, on 11/24/2008, -1/+64I think you just started an internet meme!
- houndeyex, on 11/24/2008, -4/+63It's true. Twitter makes $0. They should take that ***** and get out, or come up with a real business plan already.

- ADVIZR, on 11/24/2008, -1/+35/tangent
Twitter is awful because it increases the use of URL shorteners like Tinyurl, which fundamentally destroys the semantics of the web and makes all links dependent on a third-party's servers. Why doesn't Twitter simply allow HTML formatted links so only the marked-up text goes to the text count? Ridiculous. - borez, on 11/24/2008, -4/+37Totally agreed.
- alexkreuz, on 11/24/2008, -1/+33Its not in cash. Its in paper. Paper is worthless.
- terracottapai, on 11/24/2008, -2/+32ahh.. ahh.. ahh..
/thecount - skyshock1, on 11/24/2008, -3/+32And when you find out that 150 million in facebook stock is worthless everyone will laugh at you.
- tristanoneil, on 11/24/2008, -2/+28For someone that seems to be so against social networks it seems strange that you are using one right now.
- dizavin, on 11/24/2008, -0/+26no, they are neither. they're actually very smart for doing this. they were NOT offered 500 million *dollars*, they were offered 500 million dollars worth of *facebook stock*. if they sold to Facebook, absolutely no money whatsoever would have changed hands, at all.
if Twitter sold, they wouldn't have any money to show for it and a set of vouchers that said "500 million shares of Facebook: Valued at 500 million dollars at time of issue (not guaranteed to stay at that value)"
....and now what would you rather have? cold hard cash or an I.O.U. that could loose value at any point in the future? - bpoteat, on 11/24/2008, -1/+27Yes, because everyone must have the same exact interests as you.
- CoreyTamas, on 11/25/2008, -1/+27Awesome! Where's my check??
- dogstylee, on 11/24/2008, -2/+28Hey you put a dollar sign in Microsoft that's pretty clever maybe it'll catch on
- bblande, on 11/24/2008, -1/+25I reject the idea that Twitter is worth even close to $500 million.
- eraser34, on 11/25/2008, -0/+24SNAP
- Genecalypse, on 11/24/2008, -7/+30i'm telling you facebooks controlled by the CIA and we're all being spied on
- benologist, on 11/24/2008, -3/+25I'm pretty sure there's some stupid involved too....
- merreborn, on 11/25/2008, -0/+22Oh no!
Now the CIA knows my relationship status is "it's complicated", and that I wrote "lol" on Jenny's wall.
I can totally see why the CIA would want that grade-A intelligence. - rald84, on 11/24/2008, -0/+21what? so they're just getting pieces of paper that they can't liquidate?
- LeonidasStokely, on 11/24/2008, -1/+22But it was in shares, they wouldn't be able to run just like that they would be invested in Facebook.
- kingmanic, on 11/25/2008, -2/+23Stock is only worth what people will pay for it. Face books valuation has plummeted along with most other stock. Which means a $500 million dollar offer has a value less than 500 million and at the moment it's difficult to tell how much you can get for it, as selling it will drive the price down because it introduces more volume to a Bear market.
Thus my comment was a snarky dig at the value of that stock. $12 million dollars in monopoly money does have value as a pack of monopoly money has a none zero value however it's difficult to say how much you can get for it. Thus it is similar. A non liquid asset with a undetermined value but with some rough guide to price.
here is a rough retail value of monopoly money:
$3.99 USD for
* 40 $1s
* 40 $5s
* 40 $10s
* 48 $20s
* 23 $50s
* 23 $100s
* 23 $500s
a thttp://www.unclesgames.com/product_info.php/produc ...
So the minimum value of a $12 million dollars of monopoly money is $7980 USD (all $500) so in a way I'm offering $7980 for his house but he has to work out the brokerage of that "currency" into real funds just as Facebook is offering "$500 mill" in stock and Twitter has to convert that to real money. - sockpuppets, on 11/24/2008, -2/+23Am I the only person left without a facebook account now?
- hollywoodphony, on 11/24/2008, -0/+20So a thing that lets people that nobody cares about tell some other people that nobody cares about what they're doing, which nobody cares about, is worth half a billion dollars?
- Lloydinator, on 11/24/2008, -1/+20I wish I could digg you up $500 million times.
- inactive, on 11/24/2008, -0/+17or the mcdonalds and an empty bag. with 10 minutes or less of eating said mcdonalds they can fill it up themselves.
