- phreak79, on 01/25/2009, -0/+26Incredible valuation consider they have no revenue and no idea how to get any revenue.
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -3/+23They would probably have been wise to go with Facebook
- thedragon4453, on 01/26/2009, -0/+11Well, I think they turned it down since it was paid for mostly with Facebook stock. And FB stock isn't worth much more since its also having trouble monetizing.
- TrAzE28, on 01/26/2009, -1/+12I haven't been to college or anything but explain this to me?
Why would I sell one of the world's most up and coming social websites entire ownership for mostly stock in another social website?
Come on Facebook. . .if you're going to buy'em buy'em. - footballplr213, on 01/25/2009, -1/+9Dugg for Related articles:

- dvcoolfuel, on 01/25/2009, -3/+11what? that is they do prettymuch the same
- randyzaia, on 01/26/2009, -0/+6The Facebook "half a billion" acquisition offer was made with stock at a $15 billion valuation (which was the valuation of the Microsoft deal, which included Microsoft getting favorable terms on selling Facebook's ad space, so the $15 billion number really means very little). Since by most accounts the estimated value of Facebook at this point is $2-$3 billion that's more like a $66-$100 million offer for Twitter.
- AlienMushroom, on 01/26/2009, -0/+5I am surprised that at this time of the year, someone still has 250 million to waste in Twitter.
- syntaxgs, on 01/26/2009, -1/+4twitter
- fascfoo, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3Have you seen Youtube lately? Ads galore.
- daskalou, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3me TOO
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -2/+5"Ads," people. The shortened version of "advertisements" is "ads," not "adds."
- addiktion, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2Silly. I use twitter occasionally but I don't think it's worth $250 million+. I mean sure I follow some talented developers/designers who provide some good tips and what not but I can just as easily pull this information up off of their blog usually.
- DCstewieG, on 01/26/2009, -1/+3Does anyone here really feel the need to upgrade to Bubble 2.0?
- Maniaca, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2I tried Twitter to see what all the fuss was about...in less than a day I had a bunch of strange people 'following' me for no reason. I'm guessing it's like Facebook in that some people only care about racking up a big 'follower' or 'following' total.
- KibibyteBrain, on 01/26/2009, -1/+3How? Other than making it more reliable, there's not much more to be done with twitter. Its simplicity is it's strength. And for extra features like network building or better clients, an entire ecosystem has already grown itself to do that, so why waste $$$ there?
- Bangaarang, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2lol welcome to digg
- marksands07, on 01/26/2009, -1/+3Maybe they'll actually improve Twitter with this money.
- screwy3333, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2Twitter has zero chance of getting any $$ unless they begin offering debentures or at least entering the commercial paper market
- 1hrSleep, on 01/26/2009, -2/+3You don't see how they could monetize Twitter?
- Bloodwine, on 01/26/2009, -3/+4Maybe it's a $250 million writeoff to offset gains elsewhere by the venture capitalists. I honestly don't see why someone would throw hundreds of millions of dollars at a company that cannot monetize its products and services.
- adkenc, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1i got:
how to clean a toilet, twitter has done news. now its doing global charity events, report: IBM quietly lays off North American staff.
this techcrunch story showed up under trending topics on twitter yesterday. twitter can be neat, but i think it is ***** as far as news goes. it's much better for finding out stuff like what people think about things...for example circuit city's liquidation sale being a total waste of time. - Hraes, on 01/26/2009, -2/+3I am really confused about being buried for this. It's true, isn't it? And completely inoffensive? Wut?
- inactive, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1Well I submitted both this and how to clean a toilet... its should not be related just because it is the same submitter, should it?
way to fail Digg. - kinseyincanada, on 01/26/2009, -3/+4how does twitter even make money? it has no adds, and its sole purpose is to inform your friends of you doing absolutely useless things.
- DMCer, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/11/24/how-much- ...
Everywhere I see, stories are either saying that Facebook was the one who walked away from twitter's $500 million demand (link), or twitter walked away from Facebook. Which is it? - harvinator24, on 01/26/2009, -3/+4I understand that twitter has a large user base and web traffic, but how can it be worth $250,000,000 when they still can't push a profit.
Please put some adds on the website, nobody in the tech community wants to see your company fall from grace. - jackdaniels06, on 01/26/2009, -2/+3Whatever Twitter does, it should stay away from that horrible Facebook!
- inactive, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1I don't get twitter. People actually want to read what the average person is doing in their lives?
I mean my life and all I can understand, but other people?? - sockpuppets, on 01/26/2009, -1/+2Yes.
- inactive, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1That's because your not a VC looking to get out of a bad investment
- inactive, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1Related because Twitter belongs in the *****
- jayll, on 01/26/2009, -1/+2Do they make money from ads?
- thesportoflife, on 01/26/2009, -0/+1It's not worth $250 million+ for its content but for its traffic.
- VonBargenJL, on 02/09/2009, -0/+1lol, no jack. i dont smoke...but nice comeback...

buried for me hating twitter with a fiery burning passion of a thousand suns...
because everyone who lies twitter is a complete twitter fanboy...
same reason i hate texas.... - Hraes, on 01/26/2009, -7/+6You're definitely in the minority.
- KibibyteBrain, on 01/26/2009, -3/+1Even more incredible when you consider this is about a 3rd of Microsoft's shortfall leading to 5000 layoffs. Just think about the scale of that, and then what Twitter actually does...
Twitter does have some business model strengths though, don't get it totally wrong. It has a brand which is quite strong, and brands can be worth a couple million dollars all by themselves. It also has status in the VC world, which should not be underrated. A VC firm saying it holds Twitter raises quite a bit of attention for itself that would be hard to get in other similar ways. - inactive, on 01/26/2009, -9/+7Not being a troll here, but am I the only one who has no idea what the ***** Twitter is?
- jackdaniels06, on 01/26/2009, -3/+1Your just an angry chain smoker!
