Turn google into your own free napster
blog.awswebshop.com — type this {-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +"last modified" +"parent directory" +description +size +(wma|mp3) "DIGG"} in the search bar and replace DIGG with your favorite band, and you will only find open indexes that contain downloadable music files. This really works.

- digg it
- durrty, on 10/12/2007, -59/+20Not perfect, but still useful and use-able. Best part is simply being able to find index folders you can browse.
- drathosX3, on 10/12/2007, -36/+150.. or just go to http://www.g2p.org...
- khag7, on 10/12/2007, -5/+298working link:
http://www.g2p.org - leoedin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12The google proxy on that doesn't work - if the two languages are the same it simply puts the original page in a frame :(
- johngardiner, on 10/12/2007, -41/+12worst.. napster.. interface.. ever

http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html?submitform=Search&sherlock=yes&opensearch=yes&category=17 - shotmenot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+64i have used http://www.g2p.org/ for ages. What sucks though is every time something really cool is found on digg its only a matter of time before the site changes it and its gone.
- albrad84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8also check out mp3realm.org
I'm not sure if the results are better or worse than google, but the interface is definitely much better - ne0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3or you could try an easier to remember search string:

g2p's been dugg before. works for me - synystar, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7Alternative: subscribe to music. It's hella cheaper than buying, just as entertaining, and not near as time consuming or worrisome. Also, your favorite bands get something in their pocket... which helps them make the next CD and you contribute, as opposed to consuming.
- mrgono3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@shotmenot
Well its been dugg already so why complain but i get your point
- ALLCAPS, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7It does work quite well, but often when I try it, Google refuses and said: "your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application."
- kingyubba, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@ALLCAPS
do you have Tor installed? or surfing through a proxy? that's probably why. - samnetwork, on 10/12/2007, -4/+52Well google doesn't like you.
- jsp123, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Yeah, I was doing some tests and it seems that google limits queries with the inurl to around 300 results.
- freddo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7more tricks like that one may be found on http://www.searchlores.org/
- 3apo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0well how is this news? I have been using google for finding dexes for the past 4 years, it used to be a closely guarded secret those days (if you ever hovered around the "Highway to hell" forums at Network24 you would have known.
- ALLCAPS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@kingyubba - I don't, but the ISP runs a transparent proxy maybe?
- kingyubba, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@ALLCAPS
- MrPresident13, on 10/12/2007, -39/+2i would guess that using a band with with more than 1 word would complicate things.
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33The quotes around the band name should make sure that isn't a problem
- amphoterous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Actually he's right. Since people name their MP3's differently, it could be formatted in a different way.
Ex: "Band Name - Song Title" or "Band_Name_-_Song_Title"... etc. It could be hard to find something you wanted. - Daveoh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4However Google isn't one of those crappy search engines which can only find exact results.
Band name & Band-name or whatever in between should not make a difference.
- drpeppper, on 10/28/2007, -8/+97http://www.b3ta.cr3ation.co.uk/site/music-plus/

- cr3ative, on 11/07/2007, -2/+148As the creator of that site, I should put a word in edgeways, I suppose..
It's served over 45 million valid MP3's, and gets the results from various data providers like Dogpile, ATW and Google.
It's designed to NEVER give out dead links.
Try it. You'll like it! - DomZy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Now that's a cool site! bookmarked
- 40bslove, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4the songbird team just lost there search engine a while ago, this and songbird would be a lot of fun. you should see about working with them.

You have been dugg! How is your server?
Has it caught on fire yet? - betterth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I must say. That link is awesome. Kudos.
- plhearn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Great site cr3ative. I wonder, are you worried about getting shut down by the RIAA or some other company?
- ophilye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That is a great site cr3ative. It's perfect for finding those rare things... I've already found the music from The Pirate Move and The Creatures. Thank you thank you!
No, it couldn't get shut down because it is housing nothing. It's finding it from everyone elses servers.. and if everyone else is holding only 1 or 2 mp3s, then it would be too difficult for the RIAA to sue, unlike when someone is housing like 500 & sharing... - cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Wow, thanks for the nice replies, guys!
There's a digg submission for the site here, if you like it:

- laserman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Dear Digg Users,
Thanks for providing this insightful Google hack tool and for voting this story to the front page. It sure got our attention! We will have a whole division of lawyers drafting new lawsuits in the morning to each host that has 50 or more MP3s shared. We would have never seen this otherwise. Thank you,

- joestump, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8There's a great book called Google Hacks that includes stuff like this. It also shows much more powerful features in Google, like finding numeric ranges (think SSN/CC numbers). A highly recommended book ... I read the whole thing in a plane ride in utter fascination. After that I immediately went back and updated my robots.txt and switched indexes off in Apache.
- dmitriyvoz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The author has mentioned very much a vital topic today. It seems to me that the problematics of this clause enables to reflect and draw conclusions. You can as to look sites in Russian which mention this theme: http://www.rolid.org http://www.se-ua.com

- CJM32, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Old news
buried - dani8559, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1This isn't news. Anyone who uses the internet for anything other than email should know how to do simple paramters in their google search like inurl: and filetype:
I've been doing this for years to find fonts i want ( i.e. agency.ttf). If you use google you should know how to do this.
Unfortunately for OP, sometimes people will make a folder called "html" or transfer the html file from an apache install that had /.../www/html to an install whose root is only /.../www, so you're eliminating any directories without html in their full url. Why not -filetype:html instead? And what about blocking other server-side page extensions like .asp, .pl.and such? And what about all those mp3s that aren't in an open directory listing, but are linked to? I can imagine plenty of people will upload an Mp3 just to embed it in a web page.
What about non-apache directories?
Oh P.S: napster is so last century. :) - rprouse, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4So does this mean that the web browser can be used as an illegal file sharing application!!! My god, web servers are in violation too! The RIAA had better let loose its lawyers on Microsoft, Firefox, Opera, Apache...
Oh, wait, someone could email me an MP3, more illegal filesharing! What if they mail me a CD!
Just goes to show you how stupid all the filesharing lawsuits are ;) - Attrition, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Dugg for the tips in the comments.
- mendigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0The author of clause has mentioned and has opened excellent and a vital topic presently. Clause is written interestingly and the main thing actual. The same theme on Russian sites: http://pivo.in.ua http://www.alcogol.kiev.ua

This was one of the tips in an article posted to Digg not long ago about Google Searching if I remember correctly.
It works Ok but it won't turn Google into Napster if that was what you hoped for. If you find some copyrighted stuff and allot of free stuff and loads of crap. This only demonstrates the power of Google if you know how to search, nothing else. - Soldan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4the downloading of mp3's is just so tired now..
