Jesus effin' Christ, you gotta hop through 4 different "found via" sites to get to it. Grrr. - knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27why do people link to blogs that link to a blog that tracks back to another blog that links to the original?
- fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@ knightblade2oo4
because google pays them for ads along the way? - Phil246, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15dont touchscreen monitors have a tougher surface for the lcd screen?
I'd be rather worried about damaging my laptop screen with these, since it wasnt designed to be poked and prodded with a stylus :( - Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Problem with this. Regular LCDs are not designed to be touched. You will certainly scratch the hell out of any LCD within a matter of weeks, if you don't break it entirely. Touchscreen LCDs are reinforced with thicker glass, metal backing, and have specal scratch resistant coatings. Regular LCDs don't have these because they aren't necessary and would add extra cost. There are some add-on touch screens that are actually a plate of glass that goes over your monitor. These would probably be much safer.
- wistar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13@ Smokezz: Although I'm flattered (and puzzled) by your offer, I prefer the big ones, sorry.
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I am NOT touching my 2405. Not in a million years. Cool, but not happening. Maybe if I could find a 15-inch or something.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What the *****? I hate these spamming bastards. We're not interested in going to these stupid intermediary sites when we can go right to the source, ESPECIALLY if they don't offer any extra information.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The homepage is a neat example of borderline engrish that isn't as incorrect as it is awkward and alien.
"You can edit and arrange after saving completed file to database."
"You can enhance intensity and efficiency for learning effect,"
"Double the effect of learning for infant and children"
"The description which is difficult to express with words is presented by inserting illustration, or recorded with marked photo data specifically and comments for particular parts." - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5And verily, 3D sensors shall inherit the earth. Seriously, hopefully the technology for fancy input devices is cheaper and more practical now. I want a Wii controller for my media PC.
- kee440, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Any kind of price anywhere?
- leszek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6looks cool, i might buy this if it works on linux.
- ryanknapper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Touch add-ons are not new. Neither are they cheap.
http://store.earthlcd.com/s.nl/sc.7/category.223/.f - sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Perhaps if they released some kind of layer of film you could apply to the monitor before you decided to scratch the hell out of it, i'd buy a cheapo 15" and convert it.
- gothicx00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I read this the title of the article and thought it was some sort of free way to turn an old monitor into a touchscreen. Hack-a-day styli or something.... oh well.... i guess i'll get on with the rest of my day now....
- mrbender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gizmodo took it from Akihabara News, so U should have just directly linked to this web
- thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Anyone got a link to an article with more info?"
Here's the manufacture's site
http://www.kjglobal.co.uk/acatalog/Navisis_EZ_-_Canvas.html - sennmen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Something tells me this isn't going to be very good for your screen. Standard LCD's aren't made to write on.
- econofast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It might not be immediately apparent, but the product includes an acrylic panel that goes over your screen- it's not just the sensors in the corner. No screen contact necessary.
- cainrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://feeds.feedburner.com/Ohgizmo
Says its for sale with some online retailers for $180.(Where, I have no idea.)
Well its cheaper than buying a Wacom Cintiq. - rfunches, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Nextwindow's products-- they really turn an LCD into a touch screen."
Except, from the site:
"Note that this product is provided as a component for integration by manufacturers into their display screens. It is available as a bulk order and is not suitable for individual purchase." - cnbuynet, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1http://www.cnbuynet.com/car-pc-vga-screen-c-138.ht ...
This site offer various car computer monitorS - D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Gizmodo IS a blog. (though I admit, a blog linking to a blog is not the best thing)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Couldn't you have just directly linked to gizmondo instead of going through a blog?
- 12340987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1huh, that's what i've thinking...
- zabouth, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7if you need a stylus they it aint true toucth screen :(
- gothicx00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1okay, i wasn't talking about a stylus, i was making my own spelling of the slang word "stylee" as in style.... but ok
- SimonX314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't using a stylus on a regular monitor tear up the surface?
- diggsterminator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Your website sucks.
- moon118, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2headshot after headshot in counter-strike :D
- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stylus Touchscreens are much better than the finger sensitive ones. It gives you better accuracy, plus it can read how hard you are pressing, and on some models, even the tilt of the stylus.
- molecool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have taken a few LCDs apart and need to point out that you would be scribbling directly on the outer polarizer sheet. They are pretty sturdy - yes - but can be damaged since they're simply stretched PVA sheets. I wouldn't do this or I would cut a piece of plastic that would go on top of the display area (safer anyway if I mix up the pen ;-)
- egadgetmag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1updated the post. it has the pricing, where you can buy it, plus it is available in wireless
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The stylus has a wire! Who wants to hold that up to the screen? Stupid.
- patm1987, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's cool and all, but as mentioned before, touch technology isn't new (or good for most monitors)
on the other hand... if it could detect a touch in say 15 different locations... - wistar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Touch screen shouldn't use a stylus.
- mikeismyname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh, wow, this would be so handy for drawing! although drawing up right could get frustrating
- nurvus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i remember a couple of my teachers in high school [1996-2000] using these on their CRTs.. nothing new imho.
- buzzcoffee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I had a Lightpen for my Commodore 64. Same idea.
Nextwindow's products-- they really turn an LCD into a touch screen.
http://www.nextwindow.com/ - Smokezz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6@wistar: Small penis?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5I can almost imagine the possibilies! Oh my go... oh wait. That's right, we already have tablet PC's.
Sorry, wrong revolution. - egadgetmag, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1http://www.egmpc.com/2006/05/12/turn-your-monitor-into-a-touch-screen/ Just updated with the pricing, product page and a UK retailer where you can but it from. The stylus is available in a wireless option according to the product page
- Progranism, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Anyone got a link to an article with more info?
- mrblaq, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0I remember when this technology was available 20 years ago.
- wistar, on 10/12/2007, -10/+12405? You call that a monitor? Aye, now my 3007, THAT'S a monitor.
