- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -3/+43I can't figure out if it's cool or not but there's one thing for sure...Transmission is minimalist.
- BestPker, on 08/08/2008, -2/+20Transmission FTW! Simple yet powerful.
- iofthestorm, on 08/08/2008, -0/+14Use a service like dyndns.org then.
- CATSCEO2, on 08/08/2008, -3/+16Awesome, greatest bittorrent client ever.
Minimalist that is. - Muncher, on 08/08/2008, -1/+12I'm not sure which part about your comment bugs me the most. Is it the irritating and cliché "wait for it," the completely unnecessary repetition, or the overuse of caps-lock?
Anyway, to address the actual content of your post, not everyone needs or even uses DHT. It's actually detrimental to people who only use private trackers. - hungryduck, on 08/08/2008, -1/+11Do you have any idea what Clutch is?
- freshyill, on 08/08/2008, -0/+9Dig a bit and some of the more complicated stuff will appear. You can get a lot of information by double clicking on a torrent in progress. If I wanted to teach my parents to use Bit Torrent, I sure as hell would go for this before Azureus.
- Protoss, on 08/08/2008, -1/+10Maybe trying out other distros of Linux?
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+9no-ip.com
dyndns.com
zoneedit.com - Vich, on 08/08/2008, -0/+8I'm less comfortable using uTorrent since it was bought out, and like the open-source alternatives.
- manitoba98xp, on 08/08/2008, -0/+8It's just a Web UI, like those built into many other BitTorrent clients.
- thunderer, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7The one thing I wish Transmission had is RSS for automatically getting TV shows. Then again, I suppose that's where the slippery slope starts.
- freshyill, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7Definitely sounds like you've got something else messed up. I find Transmission to be very fast.
- Vich, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7Deluge is another great torrent client, but the topic is Transmission.
- fadeedaf, on 08/08/2008, -1/+8If you are already using Linux, do you need to download Linux ISO's?
- bryceman111, on 08/08/2008, -0/+7I am not positive, but I think uTorrent only works on Windows, Transmission works on Macs.
(correct if I am wrong) - Gudlyf, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6Hell, I just gave it a try and it looks great and works like a champ using Safari on iPhone. Looks like it was made for that very purpose alone.
- thebrokenlight, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6It's disabled by default.
- MtheoryX, on 08/08/2008, -0/+6I've never had a problem with the speed of Transmission. Perhaps you're having network issues on the Mac side.
- BestPker, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5No idea what lag you were referring to. I was using 1.2x versions and they were fine.
- Zerophnx, on 08/08/2008, -0/+5Almost every client can give you high speeds if you set it up correctly. I have personally experienced this with KTorrent, uTorrent, and Azureus (Vuze).
The biggest differences are the interfaces that you use to configure the client properly. But back on topic... - paulzov, on 08/08/2008, -1/+6It seems to me that you're more excited about Transmission not having DHT than we are about a client we all happily use.
- NotOptium, on 08/08/2008, -2/+6...unless it's ***** clutch.
- steppinrazor88, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4i wish i knew about this a long time ago.
- mrBitch, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4@phish73 RE: "utorrent ... has had web gui for ages"
Transmission has had a web gui for over a year. This post is only about the fact that it's now included in the main download ( "Clutch" for "Transmission" used to be a separate download, since the project is run by a separate coding team to that of transmission). - schoate09, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4Perhaps you need a lesson on how to use the reply button.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -1/+5As long as you can disable it, which you sure can, I think it's not a bad idea.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -1/+5Maybe trying to show something legal in the screenshots?
- SteveMax, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4"Oh, I was beta testing your application and found a bug, but I didn't report it until after the final release because I thought everybody already had reported!"
What is the ***** point of using a beta if he won't report bugs?! - grignr, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4Seen in the Transmission forums:
"This problem was in the beta too, but I waited until now to report it in case it was a known bug, but it's still there in the released version." - nthitz, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3Yea all the private trackers i'm on are not liking it yet.
- NotOptium, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3If you're on linux, check out flexget. It takes a little setting up, but I've been using it for a few months now to get Daily Show/Colbert Report episodes. Just have it download the .torrent file to Transmission's watched directory and voila.
There's probably something even better on mac, but I only know linux. - Woknblues, on 08/10/2008, -0/+3Not long after I installed Hardy a month or so back, I ended up on piratebay. I started a download but wasn't sure that anything had happened, and didn't realize that it was there until it was done. This is one of the best, and I was a ktrorrent fan for a long time. I guess it has it's uses, but transmission gets the same job done with a very few numbers of clicks, and a pretty intuitive interface. If you already go to the places that host torrents, use transmission.
- Pronation, on 08/08/2008, -2/+5Yes, DHT is bad in some cases.
- wilhel1812, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3downloading for a friend?
updating to a newer distro?
trying out a new distro?
but prolly just to show something legal... - shakbhaji, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3For Mac:
http://tvshows.en.softonic.com/mac - mrBitch, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3@xexx RE: "uTorrent has had a WebUI for how long now? A year or more?"
Transmission has had a webUI for over a year. This post is only about the fact that it's now included in the main download ( "Clutch" for "Transmission" used to be a separate download, since the project is run by a separate coding team to that of transmission). - freshyill, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2TVShows handled that exceptionally well... unfortunately the new version has been a month away since February. I've given up hope.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2My major problem is linux version of transmission doesn't do queue control.
- Protoss, on 08/08/2008, -2/+4Word has it this version has problems reporting stats to trackers, so it looks like it'll be banned at most places for a while...Don't they beta these things before releasing them? Seems every major revision has the reporting problem and it takes them a few versions to work it out.
- colinjnk, on 02/25/2009, -4/+6Great news! This makes it so much easier to manage an old computer I have setup to download torrents.
- freshyill, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Works like a charm... sort of. The authentication seems kind of wonky. Sometimes it doesn't want to let me in, but yeah, use dyndns.
- monkeymad2, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2Transmission is on Linux, Macs, BSD and stuff.
But yeah, pretty much - suprdaddy, on 08/08/2008, -1/+2I'll wait 'till it comes bundled with an Engine.
- UNL1M1T3D, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Transmission is nice, I've experimented with it in Ubuntu, but I find that it lacks a lot of features that I like in Utorrent. Just sucks Utorrent doesn't have a Linux edition (that I am aware of).
- enterneo, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1PPA for Ubuntu 8.04 - http://www.bortis.ch/fm/kab/?p=54
- Iwantawii, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1I thought this was about bundles of objects?
- TheSnuffster, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1With a developer called Gimp, it has to be good!
- UNL1M1T3D, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Hmm that is a good idea, never thought of that.
