This device represents the bleeding edge of a control system that will one day be used for everything. The improvements made in this area are staggering, and there's hundreds of teams of researchers working on this problem around the world; from medical uses like this and Dean Kamen's robotic prosthetic arms, to military uses, to entertainment uses.
It's highly likely that in my lifetime, thought-control will be the dominant method of interacting with most items; phones, cars, kitchen appliances, games, tools. Progress has been so quick in the last few years that it seems inevitable now.
This will lead to a real revolution, not so much on the machine side, but in our brains. We will become *much* more conscious of what we are thinking, and we will become incredibly precise when thinking about movements and actions. I think it's going to be a real shock for people in 20 or 30 years if they could see how little attention we pay today to our thoughts. - MizuhoChan, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1Bet I could do it.
