http://forums.torrentspy.com/showthread.php?t=30162 - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24well, if people would just label things properly, then we wouldn't really NEED categories, anyway.
NAME.SEASONXXEPISODEXX.LABEL.CODEC.GROUP
ex.: LOST.S01E02.HDTV.XVID.LOL
that's why private trackers are the best. i've even heard of some private trackers warning people about possible upload suspension for poorly labeled uploads. now, that kicks ass! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28As a regular torrentspy user I have the following to say:
WTF?
Was this reduction of categories done because there were too many and getting out of hand, or because the site operators were legally threatened? - dogoon, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21WTF! why are YOU on digg if your going to ask stupid questions like this.
Torrentspy is a big deal to some people here and its good to know whats going on with it. - infra172, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Just find another website. Mininova for instance.
- BlindIrishman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13For the same reason anything is on digg, he found something interesting and wants to share it.
- computerjoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I never use categories on torrent sites; just search.
- aaronm67, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Thanks for your input, though, there's a box for that. We don't need to hear your two cents, just pick the box.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12The categories TV and Movie would help strengthen a case against them. This is evidence that they don't want to go legit but are wishing to continue flying under the radar.
- fliz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9135,486 torrents on pirate bay
87,311 torrents on mininova
233,479 on torrentspy
seems you may save time trying torrentspy first. Just a suggestion, I do realize you may have specific interests not represented on torrentspy. - nads, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12darkv0dor, your making the assumption that torrents are illegal in the first place.
- starbirix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I hear they want to go legit.
- bluedragon1981, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I agree with foxhoundadmin. If things were labeled properly people could search them easily.
- Voide, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15...Because this is technology news.
- darkvad0r, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I don't see how this is helping them to go legit, torrents are still there, it's just they're all under the same category now :/
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Did the mpaa have a hand in it, or did torrentspy make the changes on their own?
- jdheller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I imagine comments like this get negged because they do not further the conversation about a change in structuring of a popular torrent site.
- boardo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I used their directory quite a bit to find some things I wouldn't even think of searching for, its a shame to see some listings go. But nevertheless, the search box can still work just fine for most people.
- adam8281, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7This stinks, they had a very helpful directory of TV shows
- spin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4temporary or not, I want my Daily Show rss feed back!
- MechaPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Thats why I always use search
- boshaus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Just read the comment above. they are restructuring...
- serpentor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I only went to Torrentspy if I couldn't find what I needed on either Mininova or the Pirate Bay.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4tvtorrents.com
Amazing. spyware/virus free - Latentk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I use Torrentspy frequently, this reduction is worrysome. This could be the beginning of the downward spiral for TS, which would be extremely unfortunate.
- LDinOR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey, torrentspy was great, but check out your peerguardian man, there are a lot of dubious sites banging on your ip as soon as you hit that site.
- chrisrox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't see how a news article can have sexual orientation.
- coaxus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Umm maybe you people should try http://tvtorrent.info it indexes mini-nova's tv torrents in the easiest format to use.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2www.isohunt.com
Online Torrents: 354180 - bigkm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i subscribe to the oc and simpsons rss feed and there all broken now :(
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2isohunt.com generally has better torrents, but the reason i use torrentspy frequently is because i can see comments that others have made on the torrent (especially useful for copy protected games, and video quality comments)
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just looks like they reorganized everything.
Anyway, they just close down if they can't fight the MPAA, etc.
Don't know why they think people will still visit them when all the "good" stuff is gone. - LDinOR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh and did someone mention isohunt? I'm using firefox now, but never go there with ie, site of a crapload of nefarious popups.
- Arsi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The directory is helpful, but it's not necessary. Just using the search, like MechaPenguin said, works just as well.
- almostmanda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In a post-Grokster world, p2p sites/software can't really condone piracy in any way. That's why the Supreme Court ruled against Grokster--the makers advertised it with stuff like "thousands of movies and cds at your fingertips!" Categories might be construed as endorsing piracy, which would lead to a shutdown. If you just have a "Video" category, you can look the other way and blame the users who submit torrents for Family Guy. But if you have a Family Guy category, you acknowledge that Family Guy torrents exist on the site and you don't have a problem with it.
- trex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the things in the lawsuits was that by dividing their directories into categories, specifically by actual TV shows, that's evidence that they their directory is being used for infringement purposes.
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wait wait wait wait wait... who would have thunk it? HAHAHA!!!
This is pretty sad news, though. :( - wjw75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3www.torrentz.com is good, have a look
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@fliz
isohunt =)
Online Torrents: 354097 - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5why do comments like this get negged?
"Go rent a movie if you want to see it. And go buy it if you like it enough to want to watch it more than once."
that's a perfectly reasonable comment, if not a little grammatically incorrect. hell, you'd think that comment would get dugg, because it's opposing piracy. i guess that goes to show you what kinda people are here on digg.
(this'll probably get negged, too.) - DD32, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3RTA.
TorrentSpy have been wanting to go legit and slowly been changing the website and searching/crawling(if they do crawl)..
In the article they said they were restructuring.. why dont people read articles before commenting? - jasqwerty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Don't categories like "DVD-screener, Telecine and Cam", just scream blatantly illegal? Under what circumstances is making a telecine or cam even remotely legal? Never mind actually distributing any of the three.
- Stizzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree I had like 7 TV rss feeds going to my feedreader... I wondered why nothing had been updated for a while in my TV folder. Looks like its time to start searching and getting used to another torrent provider, with all the talk about them going legit in the future earlier on digg.
- Mike89, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Whyd you guys digg this comment down? He's right (I did read the reasoning on the forum, before you flame). Has anyone tried to catch back up on their 24 downloading when you're a few weeks behind (using search)? It's a bitch!
- EmSixTeen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now my bloody quicksearches/keywords don't work, and different shows are all clumped together. I used to only, for example, have to type 'lost' into my address bar in Firefox to be taken to the Lost section of TorrentSpy.. Now that's not possible. Balls to that. :(
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That would actually be a good idea. I never find the catagories so useful, because for example, finding a specific game in a catagory is pointless since there are thousands of torrents. You end up having to search for it yourself.
- TehCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is insane. This will probably affect site traffic (possible deacrease) -- doesn't that mean less advertisement income? Did they think about what they were doing or were they legally threatened? It's easy to search, say "futurama", but you wouldn't always get all of the results, one might be a torrent called "seasons 1-3 w/ extras" and be put into the futurama directory so that people know what it is. Now we won't, unless someone posts as a comment. That's not cool, but it might be because of the lawsuits filed against isohunt and torrentspy. Whatever it was, this sucks. =(

What is Digg?
