- Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4And what about the sexy geeks too?
isnt that an oxymoron? lol - Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"You forgot 11. We're rich."
That's not true for all of us.. - cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -1/+311. Geek smells so bad that you don't need to worry about anyone else cheating with him.
- mos6507, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1An article like this is the flipside to an article about why men should date single women. You wouldn't have articles like this unless the reality of the matter was the completely opposite. You can't brainwash people to like something they don't want. It's like trying to convince people to eat, listen to, or watch things because it's "good for you". People's taste usually has nothing to do with what is good for them.
- mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Geeks make good fathers? Why not lawyers too? Come on, one's job or sub-culture doesn' t make one a good parent. Trying to be a good parent, taking good care of your kids and loving them for themselves (as opposed to what you want them to be) is what makes a good parent.
- spyke77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am glad some women find that geeks make good fathers. In fact, unconscionably, women tend to be attracted by the rebel type of guy that has either money or big muscles. The reason is simple, they believe that this type of guy will be able to protect her and her children and provide food/money for the family. It all comes back to the pre-historic survival instinct.
- bigboy101011, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is another article that says "MARRY THE GUY IN IT!".... Hi I'm Josh, I'm in IT.
- Tacomagi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am trying to turn my girlfriend into one!
- kortiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1those reasons are more of how the dad will be a good friend to the kid, not a good father
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What ever happened to marry the person you Love?
- Johnny1337h4x0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't relay get the connection between geeks and Legos. I mean legos don't relay do anything, they just stand there. I, on the other hand, have my entire closet filled with K'nex so that when ever I have some cool "invention" or just some mechanism I came up with I just open up my closet and pre-build my dream machine on the spot. Can't do that with legos.
- nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Smart geeks don't procreate as they wish the keep their money to blow on nice new PC equipment rather than waste it on a wife and baby.
- hyperation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But your kid will have no social life.
- jenx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LMFAO ok this one made me laugh so hard:
5. VOCABULARY. Let me call this the Dictionary Effect. He can't use normal words that the rest of us use. He says he's going to ping somebody. In my mind that means he's going to throw things at them while they sit at the lunch table. For some freakish reason that means he's going to contact them. He thinks he's a freakin' computer because sometimes he has to "let processes run in the background" for the rest of us, that means, let me try and recall......He queues up the dishwasher. For you and me, that's the time delay button while I get in the shower. I just don't even want to tell you how he uses and abuses vocabulary. If he meets someone he doesn't like, they "have a bad UI." To you and me, they were an obnoxious jackass with Asperger's.
haha i love my geek boyfriend and this kind of stuff doesn't bother me at all :) i mean, he's how i got onto digg in the first place! - gotpaint547, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good article but were is the geek who plays a sport in this story
and common u guys stop ragging on the jocks were not all that bad - teeemoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1too bad i'm gay...heheheheh.....
- mcgirt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Because your kid will probably be weird and not get any pu$$y either. Oh wait...that's not a good one.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The #1 turn-on for women: Giving the impression you'll be a good father. This is it folks, the answer of the riddle.
Now, just have to get women to read this so they can stop believing the macho football hero makes the best father.
Of course, this is worthless to the gay geek, since when dealing with men (gay or straight), all they care about is looks... - jenx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ah wait, i was reading another article of hers.. top ten reasons why it isn't always easy being married to a geek... also a good read :)
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"But seriously, being an IT student myself, there are quite some attractive people in IT, although there are still more attractive ones in business. Guess I'm stuck in the transition.'
I think the reason for this is: That in the past only the unattractive, friend-less nerds would take up hobbies such as computers that would take up their large amounts of free time that came from having no friends or girlfriends/boyfriends. As time moved on (we entered the mid-1990s), people have noticed that computers and the Internet were the hot new money maker, and the industry of the 21st century. All walks of life, including the attractive business-major types, realized there was more money and potential in the IT industry. So now IT is a social standard that ugly and attractive people both take up.
Remember, much like the gays start ALL male fashion trends (short hair, earings, hair bleaching) that eventually become social norms with the straights... geeks/nerds start ALL technology trends that eventually become social norms.
I'll bet some of you can even remember when only nerds used eBay and blogs... - dwhitbeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Steve Teixeira and Xavier Pacheco are excellent authors of books on Delphi.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apparently I'm the only one who read this like 3 or 4 times as the top 10 reasons Greeks make good fathers. I finally clicked the link and was shocked to find it was all about Geeks. Either way I'm gonna be a good father.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great post, I'm gonna go play legos with the kids
- dwhitbeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Lawyers make good fathers."
Come on we want to teach our kids to tell the truth. - randal2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No digg... this is really poor.
the only thing as i can see of worth in this conclusion of a stereotypical geek is that they can snare there children's privacy on the Internet.
(this can be a good thing to keep your 14yr old daughter from signing up for myspace.crap)
This article really kinda put me off too.. why does she refer to him as 10? a child? and so forth.
A blog to keep him humble?
sounds like someone needs a vacation .. her husband. - businesscoach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good stuff, I especially liked the comment about fighting over the toys.
- netmancer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Spot on!! My wife also loved it. Digg.
- gotpaint547, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and ill admit im a geek 2 but i still thinks it importnat to do sports
- irate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A reall geek would realize it's "LEGO Blocks" not "Legos"....
- swiftly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Quite inteligently written, IMHO. Good points. +digg.
- Phaid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Of course, the problem here is that every retard who reads /. or digg calls himself a "geek", when in fact most people who frequent these sites are neither particularly intelligent nor tech-savvy. The danger with articles like this is that the lazy idiots who sit around all day gaming will get confused and think it's about them. Just because you know how to plug in your XBox does not make you the ideal father, k thanks.
- mos6507, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I mean single women = single MOTHERS
- UnforgedNoobah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Surprisingly we are starting to be accepted by the general public.
I noticed that people seem to respect you when you show them how to do something in a respectful way.
Its the Geeks who push their L33T HAXX0R5 SK1LL5 on everyone who make a bad name for us...;) - Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0#8 is hilarious - to your attention, Geeks. But I guess a Geek must have intelligent genes... shame you can't ask for Geek sperm at the sperm bank.
- jpie05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ Dewayne and Josh
Why would you want to get married? - Ghazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't have kids, but I'm not so sure about #4.
- carebearwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"... person who shall remain nameless," then mentions his name as Steve.
Nicely done. - steixeira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Keruha, I know what you're saying. That bugs me almost as much as people who gratuitously insult those whom they don't even know.
Steve Teixeira (the geek protagonist) - tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad I dont want to have kids anyways. They cost too much, rather just spend that money on more gadgets. And my girlfriend doesnt want kids either so looks like we'll just have a few cats.
- Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Moral of the story: Go out and make babies, ASAP.
- aquax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My girlfriend read this over my shoulder, and started laughing about the mention of LEGO, since just this afternoon, I took some of my LEGO Star Wars ships off the shelf and the ceiling and played with them with her 6 year old sister.
Oh and they're LEGO Bricks, not LEGO Blocks, irate.
My only complaint about the article is – What self-respecting geek husband would let his wife use MSN Spaces? There's lots of Blog-In-A-Can solutions that aren't owned by Microsoft or Myspace. - ThePoetEmrys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really liked this, me and my girlfriend are having a little one come May, it makes me really excited. Here's just another one of those things that makes you smile when you have/are having a kid.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In her blog, she says "wet your romantic appetite"
I had thought the word was WHET your appetite.
I dunno, maybe she's a really hot chick, and for her, everything is about 'wet' :-) - slack31337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dugg and fwd to the wife... I'll ping her later to see what she says :P
- thisisbullshit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wel i just learned in science that aquired characteristics arent inherited, so you wont necessarily have smart kids........
so in other news - Thrstbster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Jealous? We get them more than once and the bad boy gets it once? Just because the geek is smarter than the bad boy doesnt mean we dont get sweet pieces of a$$.
- I8PP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's Sheeps!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1eeeeuuuuwww! MSN. No DIGG!!!
http://www.gfx.com - Teh_Psyren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FFS it's "LEGO" not "Legos"
