- meshman, on 11/20/2007, -5/+63"MPAA pirate-chasing lawyer Espen Tøndel now says that The Scene will be “brought to justice”."
Go ahead. At the same time, say goodbye to your drivers license, credit cards, investments, house and anything else material that you cherish because these guys will shred you int a million pieces. - AcePup, on 11/20/2007, -1/+41I believe this interview is a load of crap. First of all if you do enough research and know the right places to go, you can find out what is released, when, from what group and the "nuke reason" if there is one. I don't believe this so called "senior member" is a Site-Op or very big in "the scene". If anything this article didn't give much away to the lawyer, but it did give much away to those who are aware in the scene, and it won't be to long until this so called "scene member" is "banned" himself from the scene.
- Birdoftruth, on 11/20/2007, -1/+32this interview was planted to mislead the authorities into thinking they can crack the system when in fact they can't.
- supaneko, on 11/20/2007, -3/+29...This makes me happy that I finally made the switch for open-source software. All of the software I have was obtained for free, LEGALLY. :)
- duckyinc, on 11/20/2007, -1/+23Why did he do that?!
- SuperMoses, on 11/20/2007, -0/+18If anti-piracy police don't know any of the things this guy has mentioned, then they aren't much an an anti-piracy force. In other words, he didn't reveal much that anyone who spent a bit of time in the warez scene didn't know.
What's this... they use some h4x0r technology called "SSL" to encrypt their web pages??? /sarcasm - frieddonuts, on 11/20/2007, -0/+16Arrr, 'cause everyone knows that us pirates are supposed to be INFAMOUS.
- Osjpr, on 11/20/2007, -2/+14Exactly. It's the same ***** ideology that makes white hats think makes them morally superior or justified, when really they are cowards. They end up screwing everyone but the mega corporations that sue everybody. This is what it means to be a traitor and betray your friends, associates or the helpless to fascist or communist dictators to be thown in prison or executed. That's what white hats represent.
- playuhh, on 11/20/2007, -1/+13Okay, being an experienced programmer, obviously he's not gonna give information that would jeopardize the scene. That lawyer is a douchebag just trying to front like he's gonna do something about it.
I'd like to see someone break that SSL encryption legally. I will buy you a beer. - ScottyMcBaggs, on 11/20/2007, -0/+12Please tell me you're joking.
- bballbackus, on 11/20/2007, -0/+12Can we just add a feature to digg that automatically submits every story to digg that is from Torrentfreak please?
- inactive, on 11/20/2007, -0/+11Because they don't want anyone who isn't in their fruity little club to have any warez.
- geodescent, on 11/20/2007, -3/+13If you want it before you can rent it, then yes.
- spritom, on 11/20/2007, -0/+10Absolutely!
Plus I like the open-solutions for P2P and IRC much better! - inactive, on 11/20/2007, -0/+9Many scener's dont like the pirate bay... read any NFO's lately?
- Krakn3Dfx, on 11/20/2007, -0/+9The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.
"Juarez aR on teh Intarnetz!" "We got em now!" - AcePup, on 11/20/2007, -0/+9Let me clarify.. when I said the following: "First of all if you do enough research and know the right places to go, you can find out what is released, when, from what group and the "nuke reason" if there is one." I meant the minute it is released you can find out. I didn't mean days later you can find out.
- EXreaction, on 11/20/2007, -0/+8Is it legal to break any encryption in the US? It's probably not even legal to *think* about breaking any kind of encryption here...
- EXreaction, on 11/20/2007, -1/+9This is in Norway you *****. Norway is not part of the USA!
- antitab, on 11/20/2007, -0/+7I think these guys are a *bit* too far into their Matrix conception of reality. They treat the scene as this immutable concept that will survive throughout attacks and shutdowns, and themselves as a faceless, nameless underground hacker elite. Guys, it's IRC and Usenet. You're on the internet. Copying DVDs. Jesus christ, rip some perspective for your next big release.
- JamesWilson, on 11/20/2007, -1/+8It really is. Dugg.
- rmetzger, on 11/20/2007, -0/+6FlashFXP ftw
- siralphred, on 11/20/2007, -0/+6i personally dont find anything self incriminating in the interview
- byronm, on 11/20/2007, -0/+6Real Pirates ran Front Door, BinkleyTerm and FidoNet file services and dialed long distance calls to bbs's across the night while rates were cheap. You know, back in the day when you had a tricked out File_ID.diz, spent most of your time optimizing DESQview so you could run two instances of your BBS and have an outbound dialer (frontdoor/binkleyterm or scripted Telex commands). It really took off when you could run OS/2 with hacked SIO drivers and connect your serial interface into the IP stack and setup doors to open up into IRC/UUCP/FTP files and save on the long distance calls.
1:106/433, i miss ya ;) - ahvi, on 11/20/2007, -1/+7I don't think he knows what NFOs are.
- SuperMoses, on 11/20/2007, -2/+8"As a software programmer I dislike file sharing...."
"As an example I have purchased, ( With money ), FlashFXP to support the developers. "
Which is a program that makes file sharing easy by transferring files from one t1+ server to another at t1+ speeds.
Sounds like a hypocrite... warez is all about file sharing - ScottyMcBaggs, on 11/20/2007, -5/+11ROFL do you really believe that some ***** warez distributors could do that? Get a ***** clue.
- inactive, on 11/20/2007, -2/+8When the pirates become famous....then we have a problem
- ScottyMcBaggs, on 11/20/2007, -2/+7This is ridiculous... I seriously just pictured a 12 year old pimply faced nerd sitting there bragging about the 'scene' and 'warez doodz!!1' in a Borat-like accent. Do people really think nerds who distribute warez are like some ultra-talented 'hackers'?
- egyan, on 11/20/2007, -0/+5that interview doesn't reveal much information about the scene that we haven't seen or heard about before.
- arkanebeats, on 11/20/2007, -0/+5That is the dumbest comment I've ever read.
- adikt, on 11/20/2007, -0/+5http://www.welcometothescene.com/download.php
More info in these episodes than from the article. - inactive, on 11/20/2007, -0/+4You think life ain't a game? Prepare to get ran over by those who understand what you clearly don't.
- Akaricloud, on 11/20/2007, -1/+5You have a little bit of pent up rage don't you
- Makaveli604, on 11/20/2007, -0/+4Uh, Scene stuff IS on servers..
- kjpuck, on 11/20/2007, -1/+5The original source (ITavisen.no) is regarded as not very reliable in Norway. It usually translate articles from English sites that hits digg and slashdot whit out giving credits.
- anarchyx34, on 11/20/2007, -1/+5They still exist last I checked.
- EXreaction, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3He dislikes file sharing yet says he is a very important member of a file sharing group? // Head asplods
- rarson, on 11/20/2007, -2/+5Ripping off artists? The record companies do that. Do you really think that everyone who has pirated Photoshop would've paid for it if they couldn't have downloaded it? So where is the lost sale?
On the other hand, when I'm free to fully evaluate a program and see just how powerful it is, I'm a lot more likely to buy it than after using some crippled demo. Sure, I probably wouldn't ever pay for Photoshop, but if I really wanted an image editing program, I probably would've gone with another great one that I tried (but much less expensive), such as Paint Shop Pro 7. The fact is, I'm not going to waste money on a program that I hardly ever use or one that I haven't evaluated. If I use a program all the time, and I love it, I feel obligated to purchase it.
I don't even have a copy of Photoshop anymore, I never really used it much. - ScottyMcBaggs, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3Why are people referring to this douchebag as a hacker??? The hackers I know have their USB devices hooked up to oscopes and are testing the drivers they WROTE for them. Or they are building robots, advancing computer science, solving real problems in computing, etc... get a grip, these people are nothing more than pirates. They use SSL, holy *****, HOLY... *****... SSL? Wow.
- iamaelephant, on 11/20/2007, -1/+4Must be some pretty leet hackers using 800x600 wallpapers. Real hi-tech stuff.
- inactive, on 11/20/2007, -1/+4Geeze it is 2007 and people in their mid 20s still use the word 'lamers'? I haven't used or heard that word since cracking games on the Commodore 64.
- rarson, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3...which is probably why there is no mention of it whatsoever.
- ahvi, on 11/20/2007, -1/+4Yeah, that's what I thought....
- HonoredMule, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3I'n not even sure that's a real lawyer in the interview. I've seen IRC bots respond more meaningfully to questions.
/facetiousness - Akaricloud, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3The distributors who leak the warez don't have much talent, true. However alot of the Scene members are quite talented, and they need to be. There is a big difference between a warez distributor who utalises sites such as TPB for torrents on an open site like projectw.
- rarson, on 11/20/2007, -0/+3Have you not been using computers very long? I've never been a part of "the scene," but that didn't stop me from easily finding warez long before p2p sites ever started popping up. Really, if anything, downloading warez today is even harder than it used to be, because back then, the files were more consistent (sorry, I mean "filez").
You guys are acting like p2p is the bane of "the scene" because it makes warez easy to find. But it's always been easy to find. - JoelBakan01, on 11/20/2007, -0/+2He probably didn't realize how little the gestapo knew. It's part of the game: they pretend to know a lot and it keeps people living in fear.
- inactive, on 11/20/2007, -0/+2It's illegal to think.
- colto, on 11/20/2007, -0/+2I hate you.
