- ChronicColonic, on 03/25/2009, -9/+270I wonder if they plan to get something from the snack machine with their salary...
- mediaspree, on 03/25/2009, -3/+218Thats like 4 adwords clicks.
- bringmeupmusic, on 03/25/2009, -10/+154Google's Chief Executive Eric Schmidt received perks totaling $508,764 in 2008, up from $480,561 the year before. That covered $402,562 in personal security costs and $106,201 Google paid to fly his family members and friends on paid chartered flights.
- evisr8r, on 03/25/2009, -4/+148$1 = We're already rich, meh.
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 03/25/2009, -7/+132Google is a far cry from AIG. At least with Google you may find an ANSWER.... with AIG and the rest of the people in D.C., they leave only more questions.
- paloooz, on 03/25/2009, -13/+110This way, they can be rich and pay no income tax. Sweet!
- clickmyface, on 03/25/2009, -2/+90ooooooh, riiiiiiiiiight.
- sameer768, on 03/25/2009, -3/+83A small price for world domination
- mycoplasma, on 03/25/2009, -4/+74As long as they don't want a soda. That usually goes for $1.25.
- FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, on 03/26/2009, -1/+68You called?
- Tunic, on 03/25/2009, -23/+90Who the ***** cares?
Don't place your anger on the companies just because they are there and are making more money then you.
Hating a company because they took tax dollars and paid retention bonuses only for those said employees to quit is something to be angry about.
Being angry at a company that doesn't even have a finger in bailouts at this point, just because they made a multi-million salary, because its the cool thing to do, is bandwagoning at its finest. - nthitz, on 03/25/2009, -1/+66FTA: "Of course, Page, Brin, and Schmidt are certainly not paupers. The 29,148,614 shares of Google's Class B common stock Page held at the end of 2008 are worth $10.1 billion at Tuesday's closing price of $347.17; Brin's 28,611,862 shares are worth $9.9 billion, and Schmidt's 9,372,740 shares are worth $3.3 billion. "
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+59Just think, if everyone reading this post gave you a buck, you'd be clear.
We're not going to, but just think. - Crimsoneer, on 03/25/2009, -3/+55Google execs still have stock they were given back in the day...most Wall Street execs find that pretty useless right now.
- Malarie, on 03/25/2009, -3/+55They have billions.. I only need 15k to clear up all my debts.. :(
- z00k, on 03/25/2009, -5/+56$1 to rule it all they said...
- bicyclethief, on 03/25/2009, -7/+54Dude. The guy's got cancer.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+46Google has free snacks and soda.
- scallon, on 03/25/2009, -5/+50Wow! I can't believe it! They only work for a dollar a year!?!??!?!??!?! Holy crap! It's a miracle!!!!!!!!
Oh wait, they are all billionaires and have more money then they could spend in 20 lifetimes. We are talking about some of the richest men in the world, do you really think they still need a source of income? Hell, they could sit 100 million in standard savings account and live quite well off the interest alone. So why exactly is this newsworthy? - Dauntless1, on 03/25/2009, -2/+45Because there are many execs/CEOs that have millions, or even billions themselves, and they still lay off people every year so they can collect multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses. It's a very simple difference: paid by stock means you do well only as long as your company does, paid by salary means you can run your ***** into the ground and get paid anyway. Only one of these types deserves to have any money.
- Asrrin29, on 03/26/2009, -1/+43half a million dollars is a helluva lot more reasonable then tens of millions of dollars some exacs get paid for FAILING companies. sure, it's a lot of money, but relative to the AIG Fiasco, I think that google is going about it waaay smarter.
- Dauntless1, on 03/25/2009, -3/+44Which is the only ethical attitude towards that much money. These ***** who literally have more money than they could spend in a lifetime, then think they somehow deserve more in options, bonuses, paid perks, ridiculous salaries. In a nutshell, despite what some people in here will say, GREED IS BAD. And yes, ANY adult can say when something is too much.
- dazparkour, on 03/25/2009, -4/+44No, I don't.
I think they should make a real salary - Google made a profit.
Being pissed at people getting bonuses for doing bad is understandable.
Being pissed at people getting bonuses for doing good is not. - UnterDenLinden, on 03/25/2009, -7/+44Is it wrong for a company that is so successful to pay its employees a large amount? These people took a risk, succeeded, and are now reaping the rewards. Capitalism at its finest.
- brundlefly76, on 03/26/2009, -0/+34yeah a $1 salary doesnt sound that bad when you get over $100k in personal chartered flights.
I imagine his personal security includes a driver as well.
That and $3B in existing stock ought to hold him over.
Also, when you hold $10B in company stock, salary is really just an annoying footnote on your taxes. - bkrock, on 03/25/2009, -0/+33Somehow that makes them richer than if they were earning a salary?
- inactive, on 03/26/2009, -0/+33and google owns me... so that must mean that they own me
FFFFFFFFUUUUUU - bencanfield, on 03/25/2009, -37/+70Eat *****, Steve Jobs!
- clickmyface, on 03/25/2009, -0/+31legally, absolutely.
- tnoy, on 03/25/2009, -3/+33He likes the taste of feces, and wants everyone to share in his enjoyment of it.
- Dougman82, on 03/26/2009, -0/+30Google's got more than free snacks and soda. They've got cafeterias with freakin' gourmet chefs.
- dalittle, on 03/25/2009, -2/+29Maybe wall street execs should have been productive and not invented paper assets that could not maintain their value.
- Schralpy, on 03/26/2009, -0/+27Yes, one of those gigantic golf tournament checks.
- hasahugedig, on 03/25/2009, -0/+26your math is wrong.
- Mnementh2230, on 03/25/2009, -2/+27And the best part is: Google isn't receiving any government bailout money, so they really can do whatever they like.
- varchar255, on 03/26/2009, -0/+23Fun fact--Google does have vending machines that are not free. They're filled with the unhealthy stuff (the usual snacks you see in vending machines).
- eatporktoo, on 03/26/2009, -0/+21omg, can they be on welfare?
- TechnoRabbit, on 03/25/2009, -3/+24If you actually read the article you will find that it explains why they are taking so little money. It's because they'd already received stocks worth a hefty sum and have decided it is enough to let them go a while without getting paid. Read the ***** article.
- AWBoy666, on 03/26/2009, -0/+20@Spartyon (and everyone else)-
They are the largest shareholders, dumbass. They own millions and millions of shares. They're billionaires because of the value of their shares. They have absolutely no need for petty ***** bonuses or salaries. They work to create value out of their shares. - blapierre, on 03/25/2009, -0/+19It's not the only ethical attitude. If you believe you can do more good with the money than others can then you should try to get as much as you can.
Look at Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. Would you rather the government have all of their money so they can bail out failed corporations? Or would you rather they be in control of it using it to help millions of people around the world? - slapded, on 03/25/2009, -0/+19Hey I got a $2.00 click the other day. Thats like 2 country club 40oz
- jbiggamer, on 03/26/2009, -0/+19$1 to to find them
- geoman2k, on 03/26/2009, -4/+22so? thats how capitalism works... he worked his ass off making his way to the top of one of the best companies in america, and now he gets the rewards for it.
since when did making money become evil here in america? - CyclonusRIP, on 03/25/2009, -0/+18I think you missed the point. The point is that these guys aren't getting paid a salary, but rather their income is tied to the stock which is tied to the company. If the finance guys income were tied to their company then it would be in their interest to make their company successful instead of only concerning themselves with short term payoffs.
- samgab, on 03/26/2009, -0/+16$1 to bring them all...
- lepetitmousse, on 03/26/2009, -1/+17There are these things that advanced humans do, they're called jokes. That was a joke.
- bobdigi, on 03/25/2009, -3/+19***** you and Steve.
