- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+92It's the BBC. Instead of catering for the lowest common denominator (ie. trasshy sit comms, reality TV etc), they get lots of public funding to make stuff that's actually decent, as opposed to likely to rake in add revenue. The problem is that Planet Earth, The Office, Top Gear and many others are shows that, although extremely good, only cater to a fraction of the audience of things like the 'X-Factor' etc.
- SoCalDissident, on 10/12/2007, -0/+72Welcome back, Richard!
I will always wonder why shows from accross the pond seem so great, aka Top Gear, The IT Crowd, etc.... - covertbadger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35I can't wait to see if they go through with their 'anyway' pledge - Clarkson has said that they have an old agreement that any tragedy befalling a cast member will be announced on the show, followed by an off-handed 'anyway' as a link to the next story. So we should get something like "...and during the making of that video, Hamster crashed at 300mph and almost died. Anyway, the new Ford Focus is released in March and..."
- Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31True, although the IT Crowd was on Channel 4. Who just so happen to show pretty decent stuff too. Such as Peep Show!
- Bigfootsdick, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33The BBC is great! American TV sucks balls!!
**The ***** of Big Foot lives in Southern California** - oblongmouth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28PC naysayers = daily ***** mail readers.
- shyguy01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Also, Hamster will be doing an interview with Jonathan Ross on the 22nd December, "Friday Night With Jonathan Ross" (on the BBC)
Apparently he'll be talking about what it's like to crash a rocket powered car at 300mph - InSeverance, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21If only they could get Bugatti to let them run the Veyron round the track...
- insomnizach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@oblongmouth
Last time I checked, the readers of the daily mail were about the least PC possible. Oversensitive, bigoted and prone to complain, but definitely not PC. - awok, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18This is great news.
An important victory for top-gear fans all across the world. There was considerable doubt of the shows return after Hampster's accident. BBC Radio news were constantly speculating if the show was too dangerous and if it provoked speeding.
However, here in the UK most everyone quizzed or interviewed off the street on the subject agreed that it should be brought back.
...Just glad to see that the public's voice was loud enough to snub out the PC naysayers - barnski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18The site also has footage of the Hamster Dragster Crash - check it out:
http://www.autoblog.com/2006/10/09/video-hamster-dragster-crash-footage/ - tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Awesome, can't wait for the new season. I'm sure it's going to be a very popular first episode.
Without Hamster, it just wouldn't be a show, glad to have the crew back, and Top Gear dog. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14So, is he going to show the accident? I thought that's something that he really wanted to do...
- ian6800, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Official - Top Gear have reported it -
http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/1430/ - Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Great news! It's such a good show ... the episode with the Ariel Atom is one of my favorites.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Actually Channel 4 have a similar deal as the BBC as part of their broadcasting license, they just make money from advertising instead of tax.
- d0b33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12And what about... "The Office" vs "The Office" US version...
I prefer the the UK original, although Steve Carell does an awesome job - 350Zed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I hear the American Top Gear was a bomb. I'd guess it didn't get high enough ratings to even get noticed and was canceled without fanfare. TG UK is a tough act to follow (just watch Fifth Gear and you'll see what a second-rate knock-off looks like).
- killercow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Spot on!
Don't forget Doctor Who, and the new Torchwood episodes.
They rock, The BBC gets a lot of money to produce A quality shows, shows that will actually sell when they are released on DVD.
The also helped develop the open source ogg-vorbis and ogg-theora codecs to support the new internet distribution methods available to the new century. - covertbadger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They have a tiny Lego Stig! I want one!
- CrashKC, on 08/25/2008, -0/+9Thank. God. I've been stuck watching torrents of Fifth Gear. This season has been as entertaining as a broken glass and lemon juice enema.
- oblongmouth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11fair play insomnizach. they do think they're PC though.
They also believe (insert item here) will cure cancer
then on a following page (same item) will cause cancer - netburnr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Woot, I can't wait to download the new episode after it airs.
For anyone else interested, check out finalgear.com, they have links to all the torrents for TG and FG - Kickapoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Brilliant news. Greatest program ever (well, maybe not), even if you have no real interest in cars its still good.
Read in the paper the other day that after reviewing the footage of the crash, Hamster has no problem with the beeb airing it. That will be worth a laugh, i can hear Clarkson ripping the piss out of him already. - slaguru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Just great news. We lads have so little TV for us in the UK. Its all Big Brother, X Factor reality or some victorian drama. Good on you Hamster.
- ravis31, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7yay....welcome back hamster!
- MorkJT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Excellent, excellent news - let's hope the PC brigade even let the BBC show the footage from the accident - would be intrigued to see what went wrong.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What a surprise. Americans take a British show that relies on its unique stars and great writing for its popularity, and it doesn't do so well here. I'm shocked.
- danmed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5u dont really need to know the binary group.. just check out one of the sites that index usenet..
the show is popular enough to appear on most of them
tvnzb.com or newzbin.com should cater for you. - ZernanToledo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Richard is a lucky, lucky man to survive the crash and be back to normal, not even a bit scarred or slow.
- ZieST, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Great, I love that show. Especially when they take the micky out of each other. Cant wait to see it next month.
- EdLesMann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I just want to let you know that I hate you...
(thumbs up! :-) - kronix2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The American version of Top Gear had to be recut because of the ad breaks which aren't inflicted on British viewers. So, you can imagine the bigwigs' ***** themselves everytime Jeremy ripped into a car for being a piece of *****, only for the next ad to feature that very same car.
- Pootle4rthur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5if I wasn't going to be in the pub trying to prepare myself for having to spend 4 days with my family, I'd watch that
- HUKI365, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Right on! And kudos that he used Lego in his recovery.
- hgcphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Indeed, who would've thought watching people test drive cars (most of which you probably couldn't afford) would be so bloody entertaining.
Last I heard, they were struggling to stay On-Air. I'm glad they're back. - Floris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3We get BBC here, so I am going to watch it for sure! WB HAMMY!
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They're not PC, they're just exceedingly stupid.
- atb12688, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So is it going to be on in the USA or is that just a pipedream?
- deeznuts69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2agreed, fifth gear is painfully boring. Tiff has less personality then a roomba.
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Come January 28th, let the torrenting begin to us Americans!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2:D
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
im happy now :D
*bounces about*
btw did anyone see that lil lego dragster they gave hammond in the papers?
its got a lego dude in it with a terrified looking face screaming :-D
i want that lego top gear studio too! - M2Ys4U, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yay, glad to have it back
- ehpexs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't believe how many people dug this I though top gear was just a car person show
- d0b33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When I say dreaming up... I mean I am actually dreaming up a show when asleep... and they seem to be taking a bit of a gay turn recently,
So this is good news for me in more way's than one...
LOL - kronix2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It should be on BBC America, but you'll probably be able to grab the torrents before then.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they were having a bit of problems after hammonds crash with people trying to get it cancelled, other than that its one of the bbc's most watched programs so i doubt it'd be having problems staying on air :D
- higher750, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have a Bittorrent link to the interview Hammond did with Jonathan Ross?
- madhaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Watch it at the pub?
- askewed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some sort of van, probably! Didn't he win that challenge against Jeremy last series?
