- AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+52Your college is giving it to you free? More like you're just paying for it somewhere in your tuition.
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+38I didn't know all Macs came with a complimentary ice pick for DIY lobotomies. It's *just* an operating system.

here is 1 step -> Windows Key + L - mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22I love the Mac zealots who troll these type of posts with "Just buy a Mac!!!!" *****. Oh yes, rather than read 20 tips on improving what you currently have...take your perfectly working PC, throw it out of a window and then run to the nearest Apple store so you can plop down $1200+ so you can run OSX.
That makes soo much ***** sense...why didn't I think of that? - MrSarcasm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19how much did you waste reading digg in total?
- hereisjohnny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18No body is forcing you do do *****. So shut up, and stop waisting OUR time.
- shaka999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Why? Because all your favorite apps and games won't run anyway?
- MrSarcasm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18how about a "how to detect a zealot"
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/12/2007, -9/+25Well that's the thing. Not many people are actually paying for it. I'm getting Vista myself, but only because my college is giving it to me for free.

"more bugs than an Indiana Jones movie"
seriously...wtf? - UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Yeah I have Vista Business edition thanks to the MSDN. Haven't installed it yet though. Oh and Skittzo I think that selling Vista would be a huge violation of the MSDN terms.
- WATYF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11hey Skitzzo.... http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=macs_cant
- Phil246, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11as opposed to the windows zealots?
as opposed to the linux zealots?
as opposed to all the other zealots?
Digg has been overrun by all of these stereotypes and it is absolutely impossible to have a decent discussion these days without some childish person ruining it. - ChumpChief, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Excellent tips, but the way they're written bugs me...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Most "legacy" applications work on Vista. Forget about drivers and software that perform system maintenance (antivirus, registry boosters, firewalls etc) though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What is that 'from=digg' there for?
- oDin420, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9you have to login to view the screenshots. lame
- pittbug, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20Cool - I just need to buy and install a copy now :D
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12If all Crapple fanboys are like Skitzzo that is one more motive for me to NEVER buy a Mac.
What a silly dumbarse! - se0siris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6FTA: "Do u know what People Near Me is or what it does? People Near Me is a an application that lets u know if other people are using a PC near urs. U can use People Near Me with Windows Meeting Space. When u start Windows Meeting Space, it will sign u in to People Near Me. Windows Meeting Space gives you the ability to share documents, files and even ur desktop."
Seriously, what makes people want to type like this online? It bugs me when people use text speak over SMS on mobile phones, but at least there's the possible excuse that it makes it cheaper not running into more than one message. Or that the keypad is maybe trickier to use than a QWERTY keyboard.
When you have a keyboard in front of you and are typing informative content for people to read, why do such a crap job of it as this? - kcpwnsgman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, I got my copy through the MSDNAA:

umm, everything is taken, modified and or inspired from something else.
Very very VERY rarely will you find a "unique" idea that came about all on its own.
While on the topic of ideas, history has shown that idea-X, an idea that is fresh, new and never seen before is often comes up in different areas around the world at the same time. However is often the case, first to pull the trigger on idea-X gets the credit.
Case in point, the telephone. - kurtwinter, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9From what I can see, while Windows 2000 and XP continue to support just about 99.9% of all "windows" software, Vista is still batting around 40-60%. Until someone shows me why I don't need my legacy apps, (a bit of a misnomer since most of these apps are only "legacy" because they don't run on Vista, not because they aren't being actively developed or support) and what application is stellar on Vista, and won't run elsewhere, I can't think of any good reason to buy it, or even use it if it were free.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"How about a " How to not waste money on an OS thats not ready for prime time release"
Are you talking about Leopard? - jimbocook, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5by GawtMilk: "I didn't know all Macs came with a complimentary ice pick for DIY lobotomies. It's *just* an operating system."
But it's a shiny white, exquisitely designed ice pick! - ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5doh, not working.
lame forum anyways - MrUnknown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The cost for me to run Vista Ultimate is none, my computer can handle it just fine already. My computer is also over a year old (there goes that complaint)
and Ultimate? waste of money. Stop acting like everyone must buy the Ultimate version. I have Business (got it for free) but whatever the OEM is on newegg, thats your costs. - erikerikerik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23) To reclaim all the CPU usage and RAM being used un-install it.
please note that RAM not used is RAM waisted. - nightsweat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Do they cover "how to get nvidia to release stable bug-free drivers for the 8800 series cards in Vista"?
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Crysis, Bioshock, Supreme Commander, etc. with DirectX 10.
If you don't know of any good reason to run Vista, then you don't know nearly as much about it as you'd like to think you do. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+721. Switch back to Windows XP
- synned, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A How-To that I needed, change the sleep button in the start menu to shut down:

Down side, Splinter Cell: double agent dose NOT support the 8800 Chip - not cool. - 4DFX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Here's another tip for those who like their PC to be "fast":
http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/03/27/038227&from=digg - orangetech, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5They missed how to uninstall it and reinstall xp... I'll take the lesser of two evils. Vista is definitely not ready for primetime.
- glenneroo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4sorry but, these tips are all rather USELESS.
save yourself reading time and get TweakVISTA (free-version available) if you really want to tweak things for the better (or worse depending on how click-happy you are) - picto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I'd like to see is a "How to change the copy/replace dialog"
Is it just me or does the copy/replace dialog in vista blow more than a Filipino hooker? If you want to overwrite all the files that have conflicts, you have to click twice: once for a checkbox to 'Apply To All' and once to actually replace. Why not just a button that says something like "Replace All"? - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2All that and they're missing "How to Shrink your Control Panel list"? One of the most annoying features of Vista is that a cascading Control Panel menu on the Start Menu has like 80 billion items. Thankfully you can hide unused panels using Group Policy editor.

- argusbargus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I bought my wife an HP Pavilion dv9000 a week ago. She wanted me to get it ready for her. On the first boot, Vista Premium went through installation & configuration. Fine. I installed a couple of necessities such as FireFox and VLC. Fine. Next day, I go to start up the laptop, and it will no longer start - it reboots, then tries to determine what the problem is, and then tells me that I installed some bad drivers. I get on the support line with HP for many, many hours, and I still don't have Vista up and running. While waiting for HP to send me a copy of the Vista installation CD, I installed Windows XP Media Edition 2005 - it runs flawlessly.
- Rooster99, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I just found out that because I am a student studying an IT course, I am allowed to download a legit version of Vista that includes a unique serial! Thats not too shabby as it the version just below the premium package!
