- Brownbox, on 10/12/2007, -6/+36Sorry, I'm kinda new here - I don't know the etiquette yet. Thanks for the heads up!
I'm so used to doing it just as I do on my emails and stuff, I wouldn't have thought about it. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Holy crap. Brownbox, I'm truly amazed. You're the first person ever who's said something like that. Usually they do something like
"F U ALL NOOBS MY SITE PWNS"
You get points in my book for that. - Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Some of them lost during 'web 1.0'.
- ersnyder, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26No need to SPAM us with your website address in your signature. That's tacky.
- Brownbox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Elnerdo, you know - when I'm wrong I'm wrong. It's so much easier for everyone if I have no pride on the matter and just let it go. I like to think I'm teachable - people who are often end up being the ones you can learn from most later on.
Thanks Remiprev, I did just a search (after the first comment) for some articles on etiquette for Digg. Found a few - but that other one is better. - remiprev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Welcome to Digg Brownbox,
May I suggest you to read this little article titled Social Bookmarking Etiquette, it'll help you out with the basic unwritten rules: http://neothoughts.com/2006/08/23/social-bookmarking-etiquette/
Have fun on Digg! - sixspeed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Hmmm. Some 24 year-old with his ball cap on backwards thinks Microsoft is a Web 2.0 loser. *yawn*
- LegendarySock, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Dugg for calling Netscape a loser.
Like someone once said (I think Alex or Kevin from Diggnation), "Isn't Netscape a browser?" - davidod87, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I must say I'm shocked with how lame Netscape.com has become, being such a historical browser and all.
- Hitchhiker90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The first 3 sites end with the letter o. The moral of the story is if you want to build a web 2.0 site, don't end it with the letter o.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10We owe netscape for open sourcing...
...
...that's about it. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Since when has Bloglines been a total loser? I use it all the time, it's the simplest web-based RSS reader that just works. It's organized in a very simple way that allows you to breeze through your feeds quickly and easily. What more could you want in an RSS reader? No tagging, no ajax, no crazy reflective fonts.....it just works, and it does a great job at what it does
- Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Poor Flock :-(
Its a shame its on that list, I really enjoy the browser - meatstack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I have some problems with that list
5: Netscape jumped the shark LONG before Net 1.5, let alone 2.0
6: Despite their problems, they still own the computer market, MS is no failure
7: AOL? really. I think the story here is "AOL has managed to survive this long" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+17woops... i'm so retarded.
- lunchbox170, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I don't think odeo diserves that. I would not call odeo a loser. iTunes does not have free hosting like odeo does, although the last couple of times I have tried uploading audio it didn't work. So maybe they are...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6wtf, technorati? this list sucks ass.
- puke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I started using flock for uploading to photobucket, as it's a hell of a lot easier than the photobucket UI. I had no idea they were doing some 2.0 ***** though.
- danakin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7What is Wisdump? Who is Paul Scrivens? Why should I care?
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10How about 9rules?
- cfuentea, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8and what is Wisdump?? The gartner of the Web 2.0 ???
- baijubawra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow! Finally the "Web 2.0 Losers" Ultimate Edition by none other than Paul Scrivens of Wisdump fame makes it to the digg front page. What? you don't know Paul Scrivens and never heard of Wisdump? Well, he's the guy who is already envisioning about the WTF 3.0 model.
bb - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well after reading that whole exchange, I actually feel bad about -Digging the guy. What I get for not reading the replies before modding the parent.
One amendment to the etiquette link provided (for everyone's benefit): Point out dupes by using the report button. Posting a comment announcing that an article is a dupe tends to be frowned upon in Digg. Just another FYI regarding a common mistake. - remiprev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Tricky
compatible with what? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good Article. But a top 20 list of 2.0 losers is too small :/. How about making that list about 5X larger. There's a bunch of Web 2.0 companies that are failing. Ive only seen a few do well.
The problem is I think, is that most of these websites are pointless. They don't really play a role big enough that you would actually use them on a consistent basis. Or they're useful, they just go out of style. But I don't know much meh, probably just your regular average teenager that sees the buzz of Web 2.0 all over digg. - nikkesen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Just because you use something doesn't mean it's actually worth something.
- EAMUS1CATULI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good to see Netscape there at No. 5.......... ***** THIEF!
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah Flock is awesome. I don't know why it's a loser. :
- captainpete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's when you poo and pee at the same time. Completely normal.
- scsikool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Netscape? AOL? Microsoft?.... Web 2.0? Never was, Isn't now
- cyanid3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Rice:
Actually no. We owe open sourcing to Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux. You can say that we owe Firefox to Netscape - WillPate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Don't worry, we don't take this sort of thing to heart at Flock. We will continue to rock out, unabated.
- charlie55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2every stereotype i have ever heard was true to some extent. the most unpc ones are the most true.
- doctorvee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bad list. Started off as interesting, but how can you call Bloglines a loser? It even says it's always been the leader, but calls it a failure because it hasn't been overhauled? Maybe it doesn't need overhauled?! That's why it's the market leader!
And as for Technorati, you could never call it a failure. Too many bloggers obsessively check it every day. It might be a bit crusty, but it does the job. And look at how tagging blog posts is the norm now since Technorati added the feature. - prence, on 03/27/2008, -0/+1Thats even worse heh.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think they're saying that MS as a corporation has failed so much as that they've failed to make waves in the Web 2.0 arena. Same is likely true for AOL, although you could make a much more compelling argument for total corporate failure there.
- jamauss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Amen to that. Been using BlogLines every day for over a year. It works, and I like it much better than a fat client rss reader
- Jadey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Disagree with most of the list, but Sixapart. I switched my blog to Wordpress from MovableType and it's been excellent. I've switched multiple friend's blogs since they saw how much faster mine has been since.
- betobeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Odeo isn't a loser per se IMHO - Apple made it one.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2if anything most web2.0 is all adware 2.0
- jacks0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hopefully they'll be much better by the time web 2.1 comes around ...
- orbstra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1some of those don't belong there - IE flock is fine, its a great browser, once they fix the whole Plugin part of it, I will use it all the time not just part of the time
NETSCAPE.COM NEEDS TO BE FIXED and judging by the voting system on the front page, I think they already have! - psilanthropist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i love reading these comments more than the actual article !! Go DIGG !!!!!!
- joe7d6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1im ok with rest but technorati and odeo?
- mattsparkes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know if I'd call Bloglines losers. They certainly aren't keeping up, but I'd hope that there's something going on behind the scenes. Maybe I'm wrong.
- MicroBerto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you look at all the failures, you see one big thing in common:
They try to take on the entire world at once.
This is NOT the way to go with technology. You must start with small, niche-marketed products. All of these people would do well to read Crossing The Chasm - http://www.amazon.com/Crossing-Chasm-Geoffrey-Moore/dp/0060517123/sr=8-1/qid=1159199109/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-6029891-1360142?ie=UTF8&s=books
My current project is all about a niche that everyone ignores. I intend to use that as my starting point and test bed before launching onto bigger and better things.
These people all try to do it all at once -- and then run out of funding. The things that worked well in Web 1.0 for most companies were the niche stores, such as a trendy hat store. You're not going to take down Wal-Mart, but you can sell some small stuff that they do not. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's quite funny that you made that comment and didn't know that Paul Scrivens heads up 9rules....
- joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seth Godin, you mean
I think Seth Godin is awesome as well, but Squidoo is a bit redundant.
There are some interesting lenses, but most experts either have their own sites or can post on Wikipedia. - martin77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1excellent article. Totally agree with the comments
on Technorati and Flock. Whats the point of them ?
Who in their right mind uses Technorati as a search
engine ? -
