10) Ask the person at Customer Service for the supar sekrit "Five Finger Discount."
9) Buy the Wii+360 instead.
8) Get a mortgage.
7) Get a new credit card!
6) You already have an iPod.
5) You totally already got one when it was in Beta, but it was, like, so un-cool that you sold it on eBay. It's totally last week. Eat it, Jim.
4) Ask Mommy and Daddy for it.
3) Hold your breath until you turn blue.
2) Put it on your Christmas list and risk getting another knitted sweater with a deformed mutant-looking Santa on the front.
1) The hardcore people already bought it while it was in Japan, anyway, and you need a mod chip to even realize how freaking cool that is so you should just give up now. - butlershouse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13number 1. dont buy them in the first place !
- Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+911) Purchase through employee company program if available
- rockefeller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Actually, nobody is going to buy a PS2 this Christmas, which means they'll be dirt cheap once PS3 hits.
Stay 1 generation behind in the console world. Download last three years top 10 lists of games. Buy games for $5 each. Keep yourself entertained for months and months and months. Repeat when PS4 is released.
Sure, you won't be playing the latest and greatest, but isn't the whole point to entertain yourself, or is it to be considered cool by your peers because you have the latest and greatest console....."Ooooohh....Ahhhhhh." - jamester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As I get wiser... this saves my butt more than I could imagine.
It's not about how to afford things, it's about evaluating honestly whether you need it. What does it do that you can't (or just don't want to) live without? Lots of products have failed this simple examination in my eyes. - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Simply wait until the gadget has proved it has some value. By this time the price will have halved. Since 50% of gadgets bought are worthless so would be avoided and the good ones will be gained at half price you've immeadiately saved 75% of the money you spend on gadgets without any functionality loss.
Quite simply the correct way to deal with things. Nobody sensible is going to buy a PS3 for christmas, their going to wait until the summer market dip and pick one up for comparitive peanuts assuming it proves to be a good machine. - organon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Right, it amazes me that the best way to save money is absolutely unknown to most people: if you don't need it, don't buy it.
- rockefeller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Although I do agree with this, I fear that if the masses were to adopt this idea of not buying things they don't need, the economy would take a massive *****.
So, that's why I generally don't try to convince people to save their money, unless they are close friends of mine and I care about their well being. - J3Holaday, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4#0 Help people move, sometimes they'll just give you sweet stuff to get it off their hands.
- pshultz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The best deals in sunday advertisements are the ones that say "major brand names", but don't list an actual brand. Here is why. Companies like Sony try to control the image of their products, so they don't want to see a Wega TV advertised as "Dirt Cheap." They set a price for their products and tell the retailer that they can't advertise it for less then that. (This is the main reason that price matching is a hollow promise, no-one can advertise it for less then a set price.) So when you see a "major national brand" tv advertised, you know you are getting something good for less then you will pay anywhere else. Jump on those deals, don't be afraid that they are advertising an off brand. (This comes from 5 years of experience working in newspaper advertising.)
- theonlyvlad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why mod him down? Most "gadgets" are luxuries at best. If you are tight on money, don't buy them.
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Steal them.
- yeahbuddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fatwallet. Internet only purchases (No B&M unless it's an outrageous deal). Free s/h and no tax. I won't buy anything unless I save at least 40%.
- MyDigitalSin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think most of those are common sense things..
If you aren't sure how to find a great deal on something, ask around, I'm sure some of your friends would know some niches online that can help you decide even more.
And one thing that I think the list missed was, RESEARCH what you're looking for. The best deal isn't always the cheapest, it's often about the biggest bang for your buck.
So just research. - syuusuke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'd doubt the ps2 will drop in "dirt" cheap prices. the store manager will just keep it at the same price and wait for the next sucker to come in and buy at the regular price.
- MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Don't buy any?

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I personally have three web sites that I use for bargains. They work very well, are extremely productive in terms of coupons and bargains, and are relatively little-known.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just to supplement on the other deal sites (Fatwallet is great), I've found http://www.gottadeal.com to be another pretty good hot deal finder site. They had some crazy exposure during Black Friday (by CNN Money and others) last year.
