- Junkey, on 01/12/2009, -2/+38After a story like this you know the "Internet" will catch on/
- bezz, on 01/12/2009, -2/+30..because a government run, government regulated internet is exactly what we should pay taxes toward. Pass.
- richlizard24, on 01/12/2009, -13/+39All the more reason for there to be some type of free internet service for Americans.
- jmnormand, on 01/12/2009, -0/+18hasnt this been the "theme" from ces for 10 years now?
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+13Don't be silly. Anyone who lives within walking distance of a library has access to the Internet. Knowledge is more accessible now then it has been at any other time in the history of the world. This holds true for rich and poor alike.
- PityDaFool, on 01/12/2009, -0/+13Does this mean I get to hear commercials for the 2019 Internet TV switchover for the next 10 years? Man I'm going to miss the digital tv ones.
- kevbryant, on 01/12/2009, -4/+14just in time for caps and throttling with comcast!
more devices + less access = fail - dekuscrub, on 01/12/2009, -1/+11The internet? That thing still around?
/Homer's voice - diggydougie, on 01/12/2009, -1/+10As long as it is provided by the ISPs without government oversight. No need for taxpayer support on this. All they would have to do is provide super slow data rates and no special features. It's loss-leader advertising. Get people hooked on the internet and they will pay for faster connections and more data. Kind of like it has been with TV. Anyone can watch broadcast TV but most of us would rather pay for cable even though they can still watch the broadcast for free.
- ileftfark, on 01/12/2009, -0/+9Hooray! Now WebTV is the relevant one again!
/Zoidberg voice - vidalsasoon, on 01/12/2009, -0/+8lol
- netfool, on 01/12/2009, -0/+8My TV is the internet (Hulu).
- JCEEZ, on 01/12/2009, -1/+7we dont get electric or water for free, why would we get internet.
Maybe we can get the free TV version of the internet, but Id rather have cable TV anyways.....
Free government internet = government regulated internet. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+6The future is going to be so awesome.
- lewystud, on 01/12/2009, -2/+8all I want it the internet in the mirror via touchscreen while im brushing my teeth in the morning
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/12/2009, -0/+6oh please....most people who use the internet aren't "accessing knowledge" they're talking to friends on facebook and looking at ***** top 10 lists on digg.
plus like the other guy said...there's the public library. - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+6I prefer the old flash.
- RedRummy, on 01/12/2009, -0/+6I'm not paying for a government run internet.
- jbird32275, on 01/12/2009, -1/+6I love the internet - it makes perfect toast!
- drunkenoaf, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5As a person on Digg, not living in America... I'm going to ask Gordon Brown politely for some free internets too.
- funkyjunk3, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5I'm still surfing the web with my WebTV! Who needs these new fangled ones?

- vectoor, on 01/12/2009, -0/+4O M G
- Keloran, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3doesnt google, and microsoft already offer free broadband to people who live in those citys ??
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3No *****, really?
- blapierre, on 01/12/2009, -0/+3It's called NAT.
- whyteeford, on 01/12/2009, -1/+4Who needs a TV when there is Revision3?
- MWeather, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2At least blink and marquee still work. I'd be lost without those.
- rblancarte, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Panned at the time (and still is) - it just shows how way ahead of the time WebTV really was.
Granted, they were so far ahead of their time, that there was no market for them at the time. - lateralus, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2lol, get a $20 router.
- ASSASSYN360, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2My LCD samsung 40" comes with ethernet connection. I get on the internet and recieve video, and text news from the net all the time. But I still prefer my computer.
- inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+2Comcast doesn't regulate bandwidth because they're "afraid" of free internet technology like this. In fact, that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. They regulate bandwidth so that a few morons running web servers or seeding torrents 24 hours a day doesn't ***** slow down the entire neighborhood around them. It's a serious drain on resources. Have some common sense.
- veriix, on 01/13/2009, -0/+2Buried for being a little bitch.
- AlbinoRaven, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Looks like they repackaged the amiga again and relabeled all those webtv boxes from 1998.
//56.6kbps FTW - serif69, on 01/12/2009, -0/+2Well this is just ***** great. Now I'm going to have to code a whole second version of all of my Geocities sites because WebTV can't render frames. And I thought AOL was bad!
- Izzmo, on 01/12/2009, -1/+3Internet isn't free. You can't operate something as big and expensive as the internet for free, even accessing it.
If someone were to get access to it paying paying nothing (free), then it would have to be very, very slow. - MattBD, on 01/12/2009, -1/+3I want a portable device I can read email and feeds on when I'm on the train to work. If they had wi-fi on them I could use my iPod Touch or Eee PC. I don't really like iPhones, but Android may be ideal.
- digitalhair, on 01/12/2009, -1/+3yes, anything but tiered internet service, please
- lateralus, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1ahh, the illusion of progress.
- veriix, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1"JamesBondJr"
Enough said. - JCEEZ, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1dude $1000 tv is real cheap.
- sadisticmind, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1i just spent 1300 on a new sony tv...dammn...i should have waited
- zbeast, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1Well it looks like big screen tv makers have run out of Ideas on how to may there product unique.
Having a HTPC is a better way to hook your TV to the internet.
I want to see my torrents and other downloads, I really don't need another way to see amazon or netflix movies. - helenkupo, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1I remember when I was little and my mom used to ground me for being on the internet too much and then tell me to go watch TV. HAH! I never understood the logic in that since I always felt the TV force fed you garbage and that I was more productive learning and doing things I chose to do on the internet.
...such as role playing starwars....oh the shame... - inactive, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1As long as I can put red text on my blue background, I'm happy.
- danwallace, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1IPv6?
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+1Then we're all be hacked. Then who'll be our scapegoat?
- blahtastic, on 01/14/2009, -0/+1He has SDTV...Standard. Like, the ones that started to get replaced in the 90's. Curvy glass in the front. Those are like 100ish now. (I checked online and BB and Circuit city seem to be phasing CRT televisions out all together...shame, hidef ones are nice)
Your name is COD4, how the hell can you play PS3/360 games on those things? I've tried on my old backup tv. Looks like hell. -
