- retr0grade, on 02/07/2008, -0/+47Steve Case must be laughing cocaine out his nose right now.
- dlm85, on 02/07/2008, -0/+37Maybe I will buy it and change the name to Q-link. There is a huge base of Commodore users that love to go online.
- austin63, on 02/07/2008, -0/+33You cant just quit AOL.
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -0/+33I hope Time Warner has an easier time getting rid of AOL than I did. After 25 days of my "free month" I called to cancel my account. After being put on hold for about 45 mins they hung up on me. Called back, held again, hung up again. Sigh. Called again, after another hour was finally allowed to cancel. My reward? I was still billed. Those bastards billed me for almost a year, and I called them and "re-cancelled" after each bill, and was assured they wouldn't bill me again. I still owe that bill since like '97.
- Emused, on 02/07/2008, -2/+33AOL, should just break out the crayons, make a big poster for their user base, that says " We have taken the training wheels off, now fly and be free" I did tech support 10 years ago for their moron user base.It is my understanding that the gene pool that AOL draws its membership from, is still quite stagnant.
- doshindude, on 02/07/2008, -0/+31AOL? is it 1996 again? While we're at it let's start passing out the "free 90 hours of internet" discs.
- ufoman, on 02/07/2008, -0/+17I needed to cancel my AOL account a few years ago and just told them my wife died and it was in her name. The lady on the other end started telling me about all the chat rooms on AOL and how I might find love in one if I keep the account. I'm not making this up.
- sockpuppets, on 02/07/2008, -0/+16Ding Ding. SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
- PorkTornado1102, on 02/07/2008, -1/+17Hmmm...
I shall bid one MILLION dollars!!!! - Emused, on 02/07/2008, -1/+16Real example from memory.Username; Saul Tees , Account Status, closed 39 times for verbal abuse to support. # of support calls 1487, for a grand total of 32714 mins x (1$/min.) = $ 32714.00 for an account that cost him $29.95/mon.I would just stare at the monitor blankly trying to understand the logic of the company I worked for and be amazed at the tenacity of Mr. Tees for playing the system.I started to look for other employment after his account was reinstated the 11th time, but was later promoted up, and soon after away from this insanity. The names have not been changed to protect the innocent, all parties, excluding myself, are indeed guilty of being Ðick-heads
- sockpuppets, on 02/07/2008, -5/+20Did you download all of her photos to a flash drive during the repair?
- gigitrix, on 02/07/2008, -0/+11lol. Who would buy AOL stuff except for the novelty :P
They should put it on eBay: "genuin bisnuss opertunitee no reserv quik sale plz" - KipEvil, on 02/07/2008, -0/+11NetZero should put in a bid... but then they would have a monopoly...
- quickjack, on 02/07/2008, -0/+10But think of what all those CD coasters are worth!
- DeFex, on 02/07/2008, -0/+10FREE WINAMP!
what a nasty piece of realware they turned it in to! - davewashere, on 02/07/2008, -2/+12I've found that there are two types of Geek Squad employees. Those like yourself, who truly are geeks who know what they're doing and try to give customers a break because the work seems trivial to you, and those that were not geeks before working at GS and received all their technical training in the GS system. The latter category really does think their services are worth as much as GS charges, because they have special training in that type of thing and none of their friends know how to do what they do. In talking with GS employees (my friend works there), I can tell within 30 seconds which category they fall into. If they don't go on long, technical, Asperger's Syndrome-induced rants, chances are I wouldn't let them within 100 feet of my comptuer.
- Rilan, on 02/07/2008, -1/+11AOL still exists? 0.o that ship sunk years ago.
- KipEvil, on 02/07/2008, -2/+11You my friend are a god amongst mortals.
- DarkerMaster, on 02/07/2008, -2/+11***** AOL.
- shadowspawn, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8If it can cost less than EVDO on my cell phone, I'd use it.
But their email user base is still friggin HUGE. Bigger than google+msn+yahoo. Remember that. - doshindude, on 02/07/2008, -1/+9you sir, are a good person.
- BossKey, on 02/07/2008, -1/+8Now, look boy, I ain't gonna use no Internet that doesn't have "America" in the name!!!
- nekochan, on 02/07/2008, -0/+7yeah, i AM low on shiny coasters...
- johnpowell, on 02/07/2008, -0/+7So 29% of AOL dial-up users died last year. That is the only logical conclusion since they make it damn near impossible to have it turned off.
- AlienMushroom, on 02/21/2008, -0/+6I bid $1.
- tdreyer1, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5they look great when you microwave them.....
- philipz78, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5Actual retail price.................. 499. AlienGG come on down!
- krnldmp, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5There's no market for internet without audio or video. Dial-up is totally obsolete.
- Nougat, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4I envision some bargain hunter finding AOL at a garage sale inside a broken toaster oven.
- tdreyer1, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4what are you doing using AIM? use pidgin or meebo or something, anything else!
- Awspire, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4AwOL
Good riddance to a greedy company. $25.00 monthly for dial-up?! Biggest scam in computing history. They made their money, and then some. - bjs3171, on 02/07/2008, -1/+5they still have a dial-up business?
- dshPls, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4Still buggy too, I installed AIM on my computer and it destroyed EVERY piece of media I had. I couldn't listen to podcasts, music, watch porn or anything. Apparently it's happened to a bunch of Vista users too.
- TheZorch, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4For the price of AOL Dial Up you can get a very decent 2mbps DSL connection without the crapalicous AOL interface. AOL's time has come and gone. Goodbye, America Online, its been fun but we don't need you anymore.
- beerncheese, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4Beep bop boop be bop boo boop EEAWWWWW EEAWWWW kshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
- bradleyland, on 02/07/2008, -1/+5A monopoly on morons?
- mypreciousss, on 02/07/2008, -2/+6no, but he did take photos of her while she showered...
- michaelb1, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4I'd buy it in a second if I had the money. I know someone on the inside of AOL. You wouldn't beleive how many people are still paying $24.95 for dial up.
I'd buy it and just run it in to the ground. As all these old and ignorant people die off or realize they can get high speed, I would me making million$ a month. - KargeOfTylenol, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Yes. We just plug our corn-puters into the phone jack and the magic box activates!
Idiot. - bbqsalad, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3I will have a slice of your finest cherry pie!
- cadmiumpaint, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3i understand that alot of people use dial up because they only use the internet to check email etc. But seriously this is the 2008 not 1998. they should just replace dial up with DSL as the entry level and be done with it all together.
- tba2287, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately it's not that simple. While there are affordable DSL packages now (like AT&T's $10/month plan), there are still parts of the country that have no DSL or cable service. Let's say I live in northern New England, and Verizon and refuses to invest in upgrading to DSL or FiOS. Unfortunately the chances are that my cable company (assuming I have one) either can't afford or won't spend the money needed to provide last-mile infrastructure as well. For rural residents, their only choices are dial-up, ISDN (in the few areas where you can get it) and satellite. Since satellite is often unreliable, has latency issues and costs a lot of money, I don't think that many people will be signing up.
- inactive, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3i almost cried when i read this.. i have been waiting forever for the fall of aol and it looks like i'm finally getting my wish... i am going to go celebrate now
- michaelb1, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3iChat, Adium......
- Corinthos, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2I'm surprised they took this long. I had AOL for almost 2 years and never paid for it. Every time I called to cancel they gave me more months and i gave them new reasons.
- hockey, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2"So uhh . . how much for the toaster"?
- jetblackz4, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Why do I find pleasure in knowing AOL is collapsing. O yah, they treated customers like ***** when they had the market for dial up and broadband was not yet a viable option.
- MasterPain, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2The caption was hilarious to me because i have had a hard time trying to get rid of AOL over the phone. You pretty much have to scream at the guy in India before they let you quit.
- davedigger32940, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2OMG!!! did you just admit to having AOL?
