Tiger Direct uses False Advertising to get sales
freeridevideo.com — Tiger Direct has falsely advertised products and charged more to get extra sales. No price match and unwilling to fix the error on their website. Having trouble competing with newegg?

- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -127/+26What moron. You research the purchase, find that EVERYPLACE else doesn't include the rechargeable batteries yet you think that TigerDirect is magically changing the configuration? Dear Dumbass, next time have a friend with at least an average intelligence help you shop. When in doubt, check the manufactures site to see what the standard configuration is.
- mtnxfreeride, on 10/12/2007, -9/+38wow.. calm down.. its entirely possible that one website happen to make a deal with the company to include extras. Or a deal on their own as a special offer.
- sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37What your saying is completely correct, you just don't have to be a dick about it. At first I thought this issue was about tiger doing some kind of bait and switch 'scam', but now that I read what he said, I understand it to just be the wrong specs were posted for the cybershot. Yes, tiger should fix the problem, but no, this isn't a PriceRitePhoto-type scam, as what it would appear to the reader
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22vonskippy is NOT a bonehead. Of course everyone else seems to think that vonskippy IS a bonehead so if he is foolish enough to believe me, just one person, then he is, to borrow his own word, a "moron."
vonskippy seems to feel that a company can make any claim they wish and if we don't catch them in the lie before handing over our money then there should be no reprocussions. Wow! That thinking sets us back about a hundred years. - Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This kind of thinking has been around a long time. The common term for it is "Caveat Emptor", or "Buyer Beware." I'm not saying this is good or right, but that it's nothing new.
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4Well, I like how he said "Dear dumbass". It made me laugh. I am not sure he is being sincere though.
- apotropaic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Yea obviously buyer beware, but also buyer don't be dumb. Has anybody here even run a shopping cart before? My goodness, typos / data entry errors happen! I've had stuff like this happen to me with other companies where what they advertised wasn't what I got, but you just deal with it! Not bitch publicly about it and try to get as much attention to it as possible. And the price match thing... they have a right to not match newegg since thier price match guarantee doesn't match from most internet companies cause it would have to be a nationally cicrulated ad, with that product on it. That's their guarantee. Not that they will match anybody's price. He shoulda asked to pricematch compusa, circuit city, staples... anybody put newegg!)
- ToadX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This is obviously just a mistake by TigerDirect. Many Sony cameras do come with the rechargeable batteries and charger.
I definitely think that TigerDirect should offer this guy something such as a full refund or give him batteries and a charger. However, I don't think you can say that TigerDirect purposefully "used false advertising to get sales." TigerDirect obviously just made a mistake about this item. - jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Another Tiger Direct scam: http://digg.com/hardware/Gaming_Rig_-_$128.94
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Re: vonskippy's post [edited]
What _a_ moron. You research the purchase, find that EVERYPLACE else doesn't include the rechargeable batteries yet you think that TigerDirect is magically changing the configuration? Dear Dumbass, next time have a friend with at least an average intelligence help you shop. When in doubt, check the _manufacturer's_ (for once someone actually omitted the apostrophe) site to see what the standard configuration is (It's not so cool to end a sentence in a preposition, but that is widely debated, so I will let it slide).
Needless to say, vonskippy, you sound like the one with a bit less than the required "average intelligence" it takes to purchase from TigerDirect.
- sendmoney2me, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I don't think he's an "idiot" at all...Tiger Direct should Price Match. Their website says rechargable batteries and chargers are included. It wouldn't be the first time that one retailer had something extra in the box I've seen it at Target, Best Buy and Circuit City. I'd be complaining to them as well.
- MacTechSteve, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12I have heard of people having some problems with Tiger Direct. But over the last few years I have ordered a large number of things from them and never had a problem with my orders, pricing or rebates.
- sohmageek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I last ordered from them in the 90's back when a 8 GB hard drive was really big. I got all my parts for my new computer, it didn't work... 3 times I had to get the power supply replaced cause "that was definitely the issue" come to find out after the 3 different power supplies my 30 day warranty from Tiger Direct was gone now and they wouldn't replace anything. Hard drive was DOA... one of the heads was scratching the platter... cause within a week 1 GB was corrupt. They wouldn't replace or offer me any support. Also when ordered the CPU was on back stock when they said none was. If they had told us the CPU was on back stock, we would have gotten the 400MHZ chip instead of the 350. They have really bad business practices to make money quick and have no long term customers. I wouldn't be surprised if their merchandise is the stuff that fell off the other guy's trucks, or stuff that was fragile but put underneath 3 pallets of heavier items.
- camilo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have bought tons of stuff from tigerdirect, but one thing this guy is 100 right is about the comments. Tigerdirect wont post bad comments, they make their own comments from a bounch of bad ones and only post the good ones from customers.
I posted a bad comment about an item and they never poted the thing.
- verucasalt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Tiger Direct are well known to be scum. Their rebates, for example, are of the "good luck with that" variety
- rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Agreed. I always receive the rebates from TigerDirect but good look getting the rebate from the random Korean company you bought from.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44GB flash card for $109 - TD is just fine with me
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I also had the same problem. The US companies sent the rebates right along, but the Korean companies never bothered sending the check. Never do business with fly by night companies that do not care about their reputation.
- trogdor282, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yep I got the shaft on an LCD monitor to the tune of $80 a while back. It's a good monitor but it has no brand markings on it whatsoever. Heh...
Bastards.
- robt3hpirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Tiger Direct is such a horrible company for rebates, this is the first that I've heard that they just didn't ship what they advertise, I can't believe that this company is still so popular, from what I've heard I don't think I'll even go to that website again.
- wayjer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Please follow up with this story, I would like to see how it turns out if you pursue this more.
- Zlatty, on 10/12/2007, -26/+2lol ...
- blobzorz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Digg because I hope people will see this and get this guy's problem resolved.
- jubcoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15 i've always heard stories about Tiger Direct being unreputable. Add this one to the list.
- macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -19/+12tiger direct sucks. i hope it goes out of business, 'cuase i'd would definitely laugh.
- jamie3033, on 10/12/2007, -21/+3lol man me 3, that would be rofl
- thenorwegian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16What does A.D.D. have to do with it? I have A.D.D and my grammer is fine. You my friend, are a dumbass.
- austintxphil, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10grammar :)
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2thenorwegian, classic!
- ScottMaximus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I never use Tiger Direct. Mostly because I would have to pay Sales Tax and the Prices are not all that good.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This is why I have and will always buy every camera and camera accessory from B&H if I get it online.
I don't care if it's $30 more. They have awesome customer service and I trust them.- justdbc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Right on. B&H are straight shooters. And I have found the prices to be very good.
- Synchro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3B&H and Adorama and reputable companies like them have been around for years and years. I used both of them when I was in photography school and I still use them to this day. I haven't had a problem with B&H for over 16 years of dealing with them...almost the same amount with Adorama.
I dealt with tiger direct about 3 years ago and had the same kinds of experience with them as others have with rebates from companies outside the country and plain bad customer service. - indros, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Beach Camera also has good prices and a good reputation
- DaveyDeadite, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4i've had a run in with false advertising before with them instore, went to get a graphics card with my buddy and they had one cleary marked at a price..which i can really remember exactly, but for the cheap price we grab it and he goes to the register and its about $40 bucks more then what it was marked as on the sales floor and I talked to the manager and said what the hell, thats why we grabbed this one cuz of the price that it was marked as he went on this long tanget about how they are constantly changed the sales floor so prices arent always accurate and the apolgize for it, so basically they expect people to just be ok with that. So They can advertise something in store for any price they want so you think its a deal and buy it right away, so be careful with them..
- zulugrid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Most states (if not all states) have laws saying that the floor advertised price has to be honored. Some states even require the store to give you the item free or discounted if it doesn't ring up at the floor advertised price.
When I lived in Michigan (also in California but not as often) I consistently got free groceries because of these type of laws. - buss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That's very true. When I worked at circuit city and this happened, we had to honor the price on the floor, but after the first person who brought it to our attention bought the product, we quickly (and i mean really quickly) either posted a disclaimer saying the price was wrong (typically only if it was an advertised price) or replace the price tag.
- zulugrid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Most states (if not all states) have laws saying that the floor advertised price has to be honored. Some states even require the store to give you the item free or discounted if it doesn't ring up at the floor advertised price.
- mikejohnston, on 10/12/2007, -14/+0Typically I do my homework PRIOR to purchasing a new electronic item. You can generally determine what "packages" are available by researching these things ahead of time. If ANY company is offering a "factory package" that no other major retailer is offering... it's probably a refurb or (like this case) NOT CORRECT.
Are we ever going to take responsibility for our own mistakes in this society? I've never had issue with TigerDirect, however I generally purchase stuff after doing many weeks of research so that should tell you something.- DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12So does this mean that companies can advertise whatever they want, and it's the consumers fault if they don't get what's advertised? The consumer shouldn't have to do a bunch of homework to find out what they'll really get, they should be able to trust that they get what the company says they're paying for.
- giveer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"ever going to take responsibilities for our mistakes"? Leaving your keys in the car is a mistake. Forgetting to set the alarm is a mistake. Getting punched in the face when a company says "we're not going to punch you in the face." is the company's issue.
Sure, he could've put in the extra effort and taken not-for-profit informal surveys of his neighbouring states to get the general public's broken down opinion on a certain camera from Tiger Direct, but that shouldn't be required. Especially when the company is giving you a guarantee that is comparable to the competition's, with only a perk extra or two. If it was a fly-by-night company offering the camera for 50 bucks, okay, I'd hear the problem then.
Because he trusted someone that he had no reason to doubt, even though you would've, doesn't mean he's wrong. - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7When a company rpoduces the wrong item or the wrong price, that is the comapny's mistake, not the consumers. Your an idiot.
- mikejohnston, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Agreed. You should be able to trust the company. I am simply saying, IF you had done research, you would probably find that "if it's too good to be true. It probably is". I am not advocating that Tiger Direct is not a fault. I would assume that they have corrected the mis-print on their site. I am saying however that "False-Advertising" is a strong statement.
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't just 'assume' Tiger Direct is correcting errors. That would be ridiculous.
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Back in the day, I bought a G15 Keyboard from them, it CLEARLY stated that it was on stock with 20+, and then suddently, I received an e-mail saying there was no more, and that I was on a waiting line, I thought to my self.. meh.. Simple mistake on their part, I'll just wait, 1 week later, I waited for the e-mail saying they received the new shipment and would be shipping it to me, however, I get nothing, e-mailed them back and found out they "accidently" forgot to ship it to me, the second person out of the 20people waiting list. So I say, forget it, and 2 hours later, bought it from another place and was ready to deliver. 2 Months past, and Last week I receive an e-mail saying the product was on stock, and if I wanted to continue with my purchase..
- MedHead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Well, I'll submit my anecdotal evidence as well.
Back close to ten years ago, my father purchased a PC from them, and it took them several months (if memory serves, over three) to send the computer. They claimed it was on backorder for that time. When we finally did receive the computer, it was missing parts that were promised: the motherboard didn't support USB, while the operating system and the computer parts included did support USB. A tech support worker had to come out to confirm it was improperly designed, and authorized it to be replaced. Which then began Round Two of the Waiting Game.
Eventually, we did get the computer, with an extra gift: the knowledge to never use Tiger Direct ever again. - kakapu4u, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anecdotes are useful, but you have to allow time for the business to respond to the complaints. If they still haven't changed after a suitable period of time, then write them off for good. Monitor their rating on BizRate maybe? I've never tried going there before shopping, but it seems like a good idea...
As an example of pro-consumer change, my company replaced single-corrugated cardboard boxes for double-corrugated ones for extra sturdiness. They cost more but are less prone to piercing and tearing. This extra cost was not passed onto the consumer; in fact, we lowered the price of our free shipping promo (Orders over $X ship free). The point is, people complained about one aspect of our business, and we changed it. Always complain if you have a legitimate issue. - Burgerman851, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Further anecdotal evidence...
Over the years, I've made several purchases from TigerDirect, the most recent being a laptop I bought from them this last fall. The laptop arrived on time in good condition.
- MedHead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Well, I'll submit my anecdotal evidence as well.
- wshwe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15After reading these comments I won't be buying anything from Tiger Direct.
- Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Me neither.
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I won't be suckered again either, and I'm telling all my friends to "stay away from Tiger Direct".
- daverp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I too have used Tiger Direct for years with no problems, until recently. Even though Tiger eventually corrected the issues, the trouble I had to go through was ridiculous. I will never do business with them again.
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed. They have really gone downhill the last few years. At one of my jobs about 5 years ago we ordered 2 identical systems at about noon. They were delivered the next day at around 10am. Lately, they sem to screw up every order they take and yes, their rebates are more and more trouble now.
- Kodiak41226, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I sympathize that he should have gotten what was advertised. I'm actually in an email war with Tiger over a rebate right now and it sucks. I most likely won't take the time to put up HTML about it though, its only $50.00.
My question, judging by the comments here, why does everyone want to "get over" on stores when they make a little mistake?- jovet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6$50 is $50.
- Paradoxdruid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10About a year ago, I ordered a barebones PC kit from TigerDirect. The Power Supply was faulty and they refused to replace it. Their tech support is ridiculous, and they are actively hostile to customers. Even if on average they have better deals, it's not worth it.
- Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dugg because i've had rebate trouble with TD personally..... they were pretty uncool when I asked them to make it right. Glad this person created the website to make stuff like this more commonly known.
- timmins, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3Can you explain what part of:
"TigerDirect.com is not responsible for errors or omissions"
you don't understand?
They made a mistake, and you paid too much for it. It's a coincidence that they are scumbags and you're a poor shopper.- TheCardinal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"TheCardinal is not responsible for reversed credit card charges when the item that arrives is not as advertised"
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It "appears" Tiger Direct's business strategy is "we are not responsible". So who is? That's the question!
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13screw tigerdirect, why buy from them? newegg is much better, everythign about them iks better. better service, better website, better prices. I am ordering an arctic silencer from them so I will get to see how good they really are, it comes with a free newegg sticker!!!:)
- Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Although they seem to delete many negative product reviews, I've built 3 computers and ordered many replacement parts through them and never had one single problem. Kind of sucks not being able to trust the product reviews though. Makes shopping much harder and slower.
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the record, I have NEVER been burned by NewEgg or Buy.com. That being said, Buy.com processing/delivery time can take weeks.
NewEgg rocks. It always has.
- asaone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I have had problems with Tiger Direct and CompUSA. I will not go to either one unless I have too.
- linuxlizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My Tiger Direct experience. DVD burner on their site said "in stock". Placed the order with pack of DVD blanks. Order instantly said drive was "back ordered". Figured oh, well, I'll just buy off the shelf at local Comp USA. It took me 40 damn minutes to cancel the freaking TD order because there is no way to cancel an order except through a phone call and a maddening hold time being bombarded with TD advertisements. And the bastards *still* shipped me DVD blanks regardless of the fact that I canceled the damn order.
Fool me once, you suck. You won't fool me twice, thanks.
(Wow, I'm all sorts of spun up on this.)

- fac3less, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Tigerdirect is the worst company on earth.
I've been screwed by them many 'a times before.
And rebates? what rebates -- you'll be lucky if even 1 of 10 arrives.
I've spent about 2 grand with them overall -- the Canadian side is much worse: The US is at least a pleasure to deal with because you can walk into one of their stores (miami) and beat the ***** out of managers if required.. :p- slythfox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Realise most rebates are manufacturers rebates: and they always try to trick you. If you send in a rebate properly, you will get your money back.
Here's a classic example: There are two rebates, they both want your original recept. What do you do? - vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Perhaps you should change your screen name to "bend over" or "kick me" or "punching bag".
How many times do you have to be screwed over by THE SAME COMPANY before it sinks in and you move on to friendlier vendors?
Perhaps you and the original dumbass should start a buying club? - slythfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1vonskippy, you're completely missing the point.
Besides, I never said I actually liked Tigerdirect. - flashdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Your options are very limited here in Canada. Who else are you going to buy from? Walk into future shop and ask for a CPU. They don't have a single one!! But you also would be stupid to buy something like a monitor on line or even a camera. Stuff like that is almost always cheaper at the big box stores. something goes wrong with it throw it on their counter, It doesn't get any easier then that. I use TD all the time, I always look for similar products that are maybe a little more but don't have a rebate. And tiger direct.ca doesn't say rechargeable batteries for that camera. And there is a store in Markham Ontario. But there is no question their customer support sucks big time, those TD ad's on the phone would drive anyone nuts. And they should come good for the charger and batteries!!

- asura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9this is the same company that tried to stop Apple from using the name "Tiger" for OSX 10.4 just days before release... even though Apple had registered the name almost a year earlier...
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Idiots. What about tigers? Why not sue them for using the word Tiger. Seems like Tiger Direct went after the wrong group.
How about this; stop deceiving consumers and ship what's promised?
- jimphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Idiots. What about tigers? Why not sue them for using the word Tiger. Seems like Tiger Direct went after the wrong group.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Wow. looks like we have a new PriceRitePhoto this week. LETS TAKE EM DOWN, FELLAS!!
- PantherX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Since they are fairly local I gave them a few shots, and I got screwed every time. That company can die in a fire.
- slythfox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2As a consumer, it is your job to make sure what you are getting, and where you buy. You have to know what you are buying, and where you are getting it. Most stores, not just tigerdirect, try to trick you. Best Buy does all the time (but that's another story). Just becareful where you buy, where ever that may be.
- mofomojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is true, but there should be laws against these types of scams. Until then, we'll just have to avoid the stores that scam us. Businesses are always looking for ways to make more money, whether that be ethically or unethically, it doesn't matter, businesses are trying to make money, we should not have to be prey to this overwhelming red tape of business.
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13My one and only shopping experience with Tiger Direct was a very bad one. About a year or so ago I ordered a Toshiba DVD burner from them that clearly stated on their site that Nero Burning Rom was included. Much to my surprise when the drive shipped, Nero was not included. When I called customer service, they swore up and down that the drive was shipped OEM and Nero was not supposed to be included. Despite noting it that it was there on their website, they continued to claim that it wasn't included and they did not have an OEM version of Nero to send me. A few calls later with much frustration, I took online snapshots, sent them e-mails of the web address to the exact web address of the drive I ordered. In my final call to them I told them I was fed up with their incompetent sales people that can't take two seconds to check their own website. I made it clear that this was false advertising and that I bought this particular drive because it was supposed to have Nero bundled with it. I told them I'd never shop from them again. I was told they would see what they could do about sending me a copy of Nero. Low and behold an OEM copy of Nero did show up in the mail! I have since avoided them like the plague and could not recommend them since when asked if they were a good source for online shopping.. Had their sales people not had their heads up their @$$es, I might had given them a second chance.
- FireStrife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is very true Tigerdirect has very big problems with its advertising and actual sale product. I bought a motherboard from them years back. They specifically said on the website it would come with USB 2.0 (at the time USB 2.0 was being introduced on boards). When i got the board it had NO reference to saying it had USB 2.0 at all. I called them and they gave me a run around. From then on I never did business with them, False Advertising and poor customer service. Definitely be careful with this retailer.
- kg4gyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They did the same thing to me with a camera about 6 years ago, except it was with an extra memory card rather than batteries.
- Pests, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its also funny that they say the manufacturer might have changed specifications, etc, and that's why the info is incorrect but at the same time the guy called them and they have never produced anything of the sort.
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11no self respecting geek buys from tiger direct.
- Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It just occurred to me that i'd rather try buying a camera from PRICERITEPHOTO than buy anything from TigerDirect
- jovet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4and THAT is saying something. :)
- Testify.Alex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I got screwed by them. They advertised a cdma phone that was a Verizon phone. They even provided a serial number that matched a phone that Verizon sells. When i got the phone and took it to Verizon they told me that the the serial number didn't match the phone and that i couldn't activate it. TigerDirect wouldn't take it back. Anyone have sprint and want a cheap phone?
- persist1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Most of the people I know who've bought from TigerDirect have had good experiences, but my last two experiences have been crap.
1. August 2005: Purchase closeout IBM branded mouse and keyboard. Took almost a month to get to me because of some nonsense to do with their warehouse, but I saw NO mention of it until I'd placed the order (at which point it was displayed on my order tracking page). Got the merch I ordered, though.
2/ November 2005: I order an Averatec 3000 series notebook. Because I'm using my father's credit card, I need to provide the last four digits of his SSN to complete the purchase. I call him, get the digits in question, and put them into the auth form only to discover... that the form submits via a JavaScript function that DOESN'T WORK IN FIREFOX. So that cost me 36 hours (Dad needed to verify the purchase by calling them on the phone), with the holidays imminent. Once the order's in the system I wait and wait, and watch the availability status go back and forth. I call, they tell me that I should count on waiting at least a week. Then a week after I placed the order, they CANCEL it without any sort of warning. No clear reason was given, but my guess is that the manufacturer was discontinuing the entire line. Coda: thankfully there was enough balance left on the card for me to make a second purchase without waiting for the chargeback. I bought a different machine from buy.com which showed up at 2:30pm the day before Thanksgiving. Adding insult to injury, buy.com sent me a different machine from the one I ordered, but I opened it anyway because I was sick and tired of waiting. I've been happy with it since. If only because of that form issue, TigerDirect are guaranteed that I will NEVER make a large purchase from them again. - imfm, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4My husband and I have used Tiger Direct for three, four years and never had any problems with them at all. I just bought almost $1000 worth of computer parts last week and it's all exactly what I ordered (made a pretty nice rig too!) $700 worth of stuff last Christmas, all fine. Even rebates have been good--the only time I missed out on a rebate was when I'd forgot to sign the form, and I could hardly argue with that. They do need to fix that website mistake, though, and not make any others. ;)
- inotocracy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Funny... you have barely any account activity (commented on two stories total, including this one, no diggs), work for TigerDirect perhaps?
- koshak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Or maybe he just isn't a sad "I hate every company that has ever had a problem they didn't fix right away!" assholes!
You know what? LOTS of people have had major problems with....GASP....APPLE! Some never got an acceptable resolution to the problem either!
- totalabyss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I almost took a job with tigerdirect down in miami. only good thing I can say about them is that the receptionist was hot and good to look at but had that better than thou attitude, maybe she just needed a spanking.
I can only say that when products come in for them to be uploaded they are done by someone looking up the specs and laying out the product details. More often than none they prob have a nub adding content like "rechargeable batteries." how does this happen?? well when doing searches for the product info if not included people probably copy it from some other site and don't pull it from each products manufacturers website.
I've only bought one thing from tiger, bought it refurbished because it was the only one I could find and even then had to send it out for the manufacturer to fix again.
i buy at ncix.com now, but unfortunately they take a couple of days since they dropped US credit cards and take paypal. - kenplaysviola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A month ago, I ordered a Seagate SATA hard drive from Tigerdirect. The next day, Tigerdirect called and emailed me and said that they did not have the hard drive in stock even though it said they had it on the website.
Not a real big deal as I ended up ordering it from another vendor, but I guess it happens.
Newegg all the way!- pter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Similar experience here... About 6 months ago from TigerDirect I tried to order 4 motherboards and 4 Seagate SATA drives plus some other random stuff. I really wanted the motherboards, but the drives were best deal I could find. After completing the order, I checked on the order over the next couple of days and nothing had shipped. Eventually, it showed the drivers were on backorder, and the entire order was being held! It took numerous emails and about two weeks to get them to cancel the drives and send the other items. But the invoice said I was still paying for the drives shipping. The drives were cancelled, but I paid shipping for drives I never got!
It was my first experience with TigerDirect, and my last.

- DrPhibes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree Newegg has the best prices and service. I wrote off TigerDirect when those Asswipes tried to sue Apple for using the name "Tiger"!!
- koshak, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Oh my god! Someone was against Apple! LEt's kill 'em!
My god...how sad! You DO realize Steve Jobs doesn't care a THING about you. Not at all. If you died tomorrow, he wouldn't care. He wouldn't know.

- beandog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The really crappy part about businesses is they can say one thing, but always change it later for any reason whatsoever, without any notice. When it comes to commerce, customers do not have rights. Let the buyer beware.
- rodon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's in a company's best interest to make things right with their customers, if they don't it comes back to bite them. These days with digg, its bound to come back a lot faster.
- MHall, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0NEWEGG RULES!!!!!!!!!
- valenciastudent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Newegg is the best retailer on the internet, but me and another friend are fighting with them over lost rebates that we both sent in. I highly doubt that both of our rebate submissions were "Lost in the mail".
- snockhockster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Amazing how eager some are to blame the victim. Fraud is not prevented by a simple disclaimer.
The very fact that they have yet to correct the site, to me, is an admission of guilt as it pertains to false advertising. They have had ample time to verify the information and take appropriate action.- jovet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Exactly.
It's been a long time since I ordered anything from TigerDirect...a few years. I never had any problems back then and never had anything against them--until now. Customer service is more important to me than price, selection, availability, or location. I am glad I discovered NewEgg prior to my recent wave of online, geeky purchases last year.
It doesn't compute with me how TigerDirect can claim to be doing anything about a customer complaint regarding a product's representation if they don't fix the representation. Buyer Beware applies of course, and it's flowing in forums like this. This is why the BBB was invented, folks--to pool users' positive and negative experiences with companies.
TigerDirect's behavior in this matter is entirely unacceptable in my opinion, and while I had actually considered doing business with them again recently, I won't entertain the notion now.
- jovet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Exactly.
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I also want to make two more fallow up comments to my own. First, the disclaimer about the accuracy of their ads wasn't there when I ordered. Secondly I used to see them advertised in old Pc Computing mags and had heard that they were a reliable store. However that was way back in the late 90's.. My how times have changed. I wonder if there were good, then turned to the dark side.. Ya think?
- tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1AFAIK this camera takes 2 AA size batteries. Also, AFAIK there are no AA rechargable Lithium batteries. This was obviously a mistake on the website where they transposed specs from one camera to another. Tiger direct should offer a refund or credit toward a different model, but it is on the consumer to check the facts.
Caveat Emptor - koshak, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1This stupid blog is the WORST part of the internet. One piece of ***** whiner feels wronged and he tries to smear the company.
Yes, they had a mistake in their advertisement. They should fix that problem.
But it seeems as though this sad loser expected to get BOTH the extra items AND the price match. That would NOT happen. The price match would not apply if he got the batteries and recharger.
Either way...there was a mistake. Shut the ***** up and deal with it PRIVATELY! The internet is not for little girls to get their panties in a bunch and cry to the world!- Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I suppose you want to sell me some Death Sticks? Or maybe you'd like to rethink your life?
- koshak, on 10/12/2007, -11/+0He wasn't told to ***** off. He was told the policy.
Agfain..get what you dumb *****...People have had similar experiences with APPLE! They ahve had problems and Apple didn't solve them to their satisfaction.
Most adults just don't whine about it on the internet like a ***** 12 year old girl writing in their diary!
"Dear Diary...
Tiger Direct made me so mad today Dear Diary! TigerDirect KNEW I liked Billy. Yet TigerDirect kissed him anyway! Why would TigerDirect do that Dear Diary?"
The saddest part is thinking that this blog will make a ***** difference. Like that ANYONE except sad pathetic digg users will do anything but LAUGH at him.
Remember YOU have no life. Other do. - jovet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My my, such language. I think I'm compelled to remind you (koshak) that you're reading this "blog" too. And, you're cool for swearing on it. Way to make this "blog" your bitch.
And I'm proud to be reading this "blog" and a digg.com addict (with a semblance of a life on the "outside"). - mtnxfreeride, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The point is they ARENT FIXING THE MISTAKE. And, I made this so other people can see how their buisness works, and so others can share their stories.
- Goya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I dont have many good purchase stories, but ill share one.
Bought a cheap 35 case on newegg. The powerunit that came with it died after 2 weeks. I called newegg because I noticed they had their own warranty.
They said I would have to remove all my hardware and mail back the case for a replacement. I asked if there was any way I could just replace the power. They credited me $30 right there and I jumped back on newegg and ordered a decent power unit.
It still shocks me that a company took care of their customer.- ynggrsshppr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Kinda sad that people get shocked over *good* customer service. What a world we live in.
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Whats with all the tigerdirect bashing? I've bought lots of parts from them and they always send me the correct and on time. I've had alot worse luck with both gamestop(when going though barnes and noble, because i had a giftcard, and the problem was damaged merch) and amazon (orders saying shipped when not, damaged merch)
Now if tiger direct consistantantly did this with every order it would be one thing, but it seems to be mostly manufacturers rebates and a website mistake, hell the manufacturer might of made a deal with tiger direct to give the battery and charger, and just didn't fall through with it.
Barclays was one thing, where they gave ***** treatment to everybody and were doing it on purpose. This just appears to be a minor mishap that someone was angry with.- jovet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Mistakes happen, and if the item was originally listed improperly so be it. My understanding is the poster of this article wanted a price match OR the exact product he paid for. He got neither, and TigerDirect just gave him a form letter reply. (I am curious if he sent the camera back and demanded a full refund, as I would believe a prudent next step?)
Of course mistakes happen... it's what the company does about them that matters. There's a difference between "Sorry, this is our policy blah blah blah ..." and "Sorry this happened to you, what can we do to make it right?"

- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2This horror story reminds me of Purehost, a horrific company run by morons. Owned by another Nightmare called Endurance Intl.
Stay FAR away from them. Also stay away from biz.com and ReadyHosting (same out-sourced customer service AND engineers).- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1WOW, I can reply to my own comment
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1This is so wierd, why can I reply to my own comment?

It is a legitimate PSA.
