- sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38What your saying is completely correct, you just don't have to be a dick about it. At first I thought this issue was about tiger doing some kind of bait and switch 'scam', but now that I read what he said, I understand it to just be the wrong specs were posted for the cybershot. Yes, tiger should fix the problem, but no, this isn't a PriceRitePhoto-type scam, as what it would appear to the reader
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+39wow.. calm down.. its entirely possible that one website happen to make a deal with the company to include extras. Or a deal on their own as a special offer.
- verucasalt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Tiger Direct are well known to be scum. Their rebates, for example, are of the "good luck with that" variety
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23vonskippy is NOT a bonehead. Of course everyone else seems to think that vonskippy IS a bonehead so if he is foolish enough to believe me, just one person, then he is, to borrow his own word, a "moron."
vonskippy seems to feel that a company can make any claim they wish and if we don't catch them in the lie before handing over our money then there should be no reprocussions. Wow! That thinking sets us back about a hundred years. - sendmoney2me, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I don't think he's an "idiot" at all...Tiger Direct should Price Match. Their website says rechargable batteries and chargers are included. It wouldn't be the first time that one retailer had something extra in the box I've seen it at Target, Best Buy and Circuit City. I'd be complaining to them as well.
- robt3hpirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Tiger Direct is such a horrible company for rebates, this is the first that I've heard that they just didn't ship what they advertise, I can't believe that this company is still so popular, from what I've heard I don't think I'll even go to that website again.
- daverp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I too have used Tiger Direct for years with no problems, until recently. Even though Tiger eventually corrected the issues, the trouble I had to go through was ridiculous. I will never do business with them again.
- wayjer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Please follow up with this story, I would like to see how it turns out if you pursue this more.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15After reading these comments I won't be buying anything from Tiger Direct.
- Phoenixfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13My one and only shopping experience with Tiger Direct was a very bad one. About a year or so ago I ordered a Toshiba DVD burner from them that clearly stated on their site that Nero Burning Rom was included. Much to my surprise when the drive shipped, Nero was not included. When I called customer service, they swore up and down that the drive was shipped OEM and Nero was not supposed to be included. Despite noting it that it was there on their website, they continued to claim that it wasn't included and they did not have an OEM version of Nero to send me. A few calls later with much frustration, I took online snapshots, sent them e-mails of the web address to the exact web address of the drive I ordered. In my final call to them I told them I was fed up with their incompetent sales people that can't take two seconds to check their own website. I made it clear that this was false advertising and that I bought this particular drive because it was supposed to have Nero bundled with it. I told them I'd never shop from them again. I was told they would see what they could do about sending me a copy of Nero. Low and behold an OEM copy of Nero did show up in the mail! I have since avoided them like the plague and could not recommend them since when asked if they were a good source for online shopping.. Had their sales people not had their heads up their @$$es, I might had given them a second chance.
- MedHead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Well, I'll submit my anecdotal evidence as well.
Back close to ten years ago, my father purchased a PC from them, and it took them several months (if memory serves, over three) to send the computer. They claimed it was on backorder for that time. When we finally did receive the computer, it was missing parts that were promised: the motherboard didn't support USB, while the operating system and the computer parts included did support USB. A tech support worker had to come out to confirm it was improperly designed, and authorized it to be replaced. Which then began Round Two of the Waiting Game.
Eventually, we did get the computer, with an extra gift: the knowledge to never use Tiger Direct ever again. - thenorwegian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16What does A.D.D. have to do with it? I have A.D.D and my grammer is fine. You my friend, are a dumbass.
- fac3less, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Tigerdirect is the worst company on earth.
I've been screwed by them many 'a times before.
And rebates? what rebates -- you'll be lucky if even 1 of 10 arrives.
I've spent about 2 grand with them overall -- the Canadian side is much worse: The US is at least a pleasure to deal with because you can walk into one of their stores (miami) and beat the ***** out of managers if required.. :p - jubcoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15 i've always heard stories about Tiger Direct being unreputable. Add this one to the list.
- meshgiath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11no self respecting geek buys from tiger direct.
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Back in the day, I bought a G15 Keyboard from them, it CLEARLY stated that it was on stock with 20+, and then suddently, I received an e-mail saying there was no more, and that I was on a waiting line, I thought to my self.. meh.. Simple mistake on their part, I'll just wait, 1 week later, I waited for the e-mail saying they received the new shipment and would be shipping it to me, however, I get nothing, e-mailed them back and found out they "accidently" forgot to ship it to me, the second person out of the 20people waiting list. So I say, forget it, and 2 hours later, bought it from another place and was ready to deliver. 2 Months past, and Last week I receive an e-mail saying the product was on stock, and if I wanted to continue with my purchase..
- blobzorz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Digg because I hope people will see this and get this guy's problem resolved.
- rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Agreed. I always receive the rebates from TigerDirect but good look getting the rebate from the random Korean company you bought from.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Most states (if not all states) have laws saying that the floor advertised price has to be honored. Some states even require the store to give you the item free or discounted if it doesn't ring up at the floor advertised price.
When I lived in Michigan (also in California but not as often) I consistently got free groceries because of these type of laws. - Paradoxdruid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10About a year ago, I ordered a barebones PC kit from TigerDirect. The Power Supply was faulty and they refused to replace it. Their tech support is ridiculous, and they are actively hostile to customers. Even if on average they have better deals, it's not worth it.
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13screw tigerdirect, why buy from them? newegg is much better, everythign about them iks better. better service, better website, better prices. I am ordering an arctic silencer from them so I will get to see how good they really are, it comes with a free newegg sticker!!!:)
- DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12So does this mean that companies can advertise whatever they want, and it's the consumers fault if they don't get what's advertised? The consumer shouldn't have to do a bunch of homework to find out what they'll really get, they should be able to trust that they get what the company says they're paying for.
- asura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9this is the same company that tried to stop Apple from using the name "Tiger" for OSX 10.4 just days before release... even though Apple had registered the name almost a year earlier...
- NV0U, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9What? You mean Tiger Direct is still in business? I thought everyone learned their lesson back in 1995/1996 with the Syncronys SoftRam95 debacle!
http://trumpet.uni-mannheim.de/info/OReilly/windows/win95.update/softram.html
from the page if you are too lazy to use the find in your browser:
Tiger has made claims for SoftRAM apart from those contained in the regular Syncronys advertising. For example, the "Tiger Direct" software catalog says:
"We tried out Softram ourselves - what an incredible difference it makes! We installed Softram in our Tiger lab 486 after having beta-tested Windows 95 without it - and found that we could run even more applications, and at greater speeds, than with Windows 95 alone.... Rick Catarineau, who heads up our lab, called it 'One of the most effective - and cost-effective - solutions to the memory-gobbling demands of today's most sizzling 32-bit applications. I'd recommend Softram to anyone, hands down.'"
If you will recall your history, SoftRam95 did nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada.
Goes to show ya, once a scummy company, always a scummy company. - ynggrsshppr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Kinda sad that people get shocked over *good* customer service. What a world we live in.
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I thought it was just me!
Well over a year ago I noticed a product on the Tiger site where they were claiming that it had a warranty that was much longer than was being offered by anyone else. And by longer I mean that they were promoting a five year product warranty.
Before buying from Tiger Direct, I called to confirm the length of the warranty. I was told that the five year warranty was an error on the website and that if I did purchase the product then the product would not be covered for any longer than one year manufacturer's warranty.
I did NOT buy from them but I insisted that the website be updated to reflect the truth. The phone rep told me he'd take care of it. Checking back a few weeks later I noticed that they were still claiming a five year warranty. I called back and spoke to a different phone rep and went over the details of my previous call. Again I asked (insisted) that the site be updated.
Long story short, the information on the website was never changed. After about nine months the product was pulled off the site (I assume it was replaced with a newer version or something). - trogdor282, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yep I got the shaft on an LCD monitor to the tune of $80 a while back. It's a good monitor but it has no brand markings on it whatsoever. Heh...
Bastards. - asaone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I have had problems with Tiger Direct and CompUSA. I will not go to either one unless I have too.
- Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10This kind of thinking has been around a long time. The common term for it is "Caveat Emptor", or "Buyer Beware." I'm not saying this is good or right, but that it's nothing new.
- Testify.Alex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I got screwed by them. They advertised a cdma phone that was a Verizon phone. They even provided a serial number that matched a phone that Verizon sells. When i got the phone and took it to Verizon they told me that the the serial number didn't match the phone and that i couldn't activate it. TigerDirect wouldn't take it back. Anyone have sprint and want a cheap phone?
- FireStrife, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is very true Tigerdirect has very big problems with its advertising and actual sale product. I bought a motherboard from them years back. They specifically said on the website it would come with USB 2.0 (at the time USB 2.0 was being introduced on boards). When i got the board it had NO reference to saying it had USB 2.0 at all. I called them and they gave me a run around. From then on I never did business with them, False Advertising and poor customer service. Definitely be careful with this retailer.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This is why I have and will always buy every camera and camera accessory from B&H if I get it online.
I don't care if it's $30 more. They have awesome customer service and I trust them. - giveer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"ever going to take responsibilities for our mistakes"? Leaving your keys in the car is a mistake. Forgetting to set the alarm is a mistake. Getting punched in the face when a company says "we're not going to punch you in the face." is the company's issue.
Sure, he could've put in the extra effort and taken not-for-profit informal surveys of his neighbouring states to get the general public's broken down opinion on a certain camera from Tiger Direct, but that shouldn't be required. Especially when the company is giving you a guarantee that is comparable to the competition's, with only a perk extra or two. If it was a fly-by-night company offering the camera for 50 bucks, okay, I'd hear the problem then.
Because he trusted someone that he had no reason to doubt, even though you would've, doesn't mean he's wrong. - Goya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I dont have many good purchase stories, but ill share one.
Bought a cheap 35 case on newegg. The powerunit that came with it died after 2 weeks. I called newegg because I noticed they had their own warranty.
They said I would have to remove all my hardware and mail back the case for a replacement. I asked if there was any way I could just replace the power. They credited me $30 right there and I jumped back on newegg and ordered a decent power unit.
It still shocks me that a company took care of their customer. - buss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That's very true. When I worked at circuit city and this happened, we had to honor the price on the floor, but after the first person who brought it to our attention bought the product, we quickly (and i mean really quickly) either posted a disclaimer saying the price was wrong (typically only if it was an advertised price) or replace the price tag.
- PantherX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Since they are fairly local I gave them a few shots, and I got screwed every time. That company can die in a fire.
- justdbc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Right on. B&H are straight shooters. And I have found the prices to be very good.
- RubeusEsclair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Tiger is very shady-- I know a guy that works there, and this is not uncommon. They have huge issues with false advertising. The only reason he puts up with the store is because he lifts processors and they dont care. Imagine watching your friend pass out Athlon X2's as party favors... o.o
- niia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This is nothing new, TigerDirect rep is already down the drain. Those who already purchase knows, and those who will purchase will soon find out. I'm still waiting for my $40 rebate for a harddrive, and it's more than 6 month now. Plus they even charge me taxes and shipping on an item they canceled. Just telling my story for future buyer, don't be alarmed if you get screwed by them.
- MacTechSteve, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12I have heard of people having some problems with Tiger Direct. But over the last few years I have ordered a large number of things from them and never had a problem with my orders, pricing or rebates.
- inotocracy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Funny... you have barely any account activity (commented on two stories total, including this one, no diggs), work for TigerDirect perhaps?
- snockhockster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Amazing how eager some are to blame the victim. Fraud is not prevented by a simple disclaimer.
The very fact that they have yet to correct the site, to me, is an admission of guilt as it pertains to false advertising. They have had ample time to verify the information and take appropriate action. - Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It just occurred to me that i'd rather try buying a camera from PRICERITEPHOTO than buy anything from TigerDirect
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I also had the same problem. The US companies sent the rebates right along, but the Korean companies never bothered sending the check. Never do business with fly by night companies that do not care about their reputation.
- Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dugg because i've had rebate trouble with TD personally..... they were pretty uncool when I asked them to make it right. Glad this person created the website to make stuff like this more commonly known.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Well, one thing is accurate - the ad is still saying batteries and charger come with it.
- ynggrsshppr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6www.resellerratings.com
A person who uses Digg and can write an entry onto a webpage should know better than to trust just any old etailer before checking the aforementioned website.
I feel sorry for the guy, but I think both parties had a hand in this mess. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I have read different issues of Maximum PC where Newegg has places ads, and on 2 separate occasions I have seen them advertise false, both were on the price of digital cameras. As much as I love newegg and dislike tigerdirect (only because I think their website is a mess) it seems unfair to point out that newegg is free of problems as implied to in the caption below the headline.
- Catalyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I suppose you want to sell me some Death Sticks? Or maybe you'd like to rethink your life?
