- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I have Cox, and I have to mention that they have a little newsvert every once in a while explaining the features they can provide, and upcoming new features and channels, etc.
The name of these segments... "Cox Insider"
Say it aloud if you need to, to get the joke. I'm not making this up. - kajoob, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19Gentlemen, start your dick jokes.
- deepdish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I love Tivo.
But for the past two years I have had to use Cox's DVR. It is ok, but missing a lot of the cool features my TiVo use to have.
This is great. For people who have never used TiVo, it is hard to explain why it is nicer. But it just is. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11it's because tivo goes BOOP BOOP
- Paktu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You must really love Cox now...
- splatnik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6my african grey parrot goes BOOP BOOP also, exactly like the tivo does. First time he started doing it I thought my tivo was ***** up because it was booping without my pressing any buttons.
Of course his cage is right next to the tv... If only the little bastard would start talking - drewpost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Will it fix the constant re-boots where it reboots and then comes back BLASTING AT FULL VOLUME WHICH IS ***** WHEN YOU HAVE IT HOOKED UP TO YOUR STEREO IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT (Caps used to share the wonderful experience of a COX DVR)
- joerod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6i wish time warner would do this... my dvr crashes twice a day.
- Rob5246, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You're not a fan of Digital Max?
- bluephoenix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6also....cox
- fugitiveALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've got the cox hd pvr and it is a PoS... i'm really hoping they can get me one of these, or perhaps i can pick up a series 3 model with dual cable card slots.
- abcohen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm hoping Time Warner says hmmm maybe we should do this too...
- rock711, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4To me, the remote is integral to the TiVo experience. The current Cox remote is a design abortion and I wouldn't be able to get past the pain of using it, TiVo or not.
- volve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wait, did I miss something? Does this imply that Comcast's Motorola DVRs now run (or can run) TiVo software?
-volve - mccarron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's currently in Beta testing with Comcast, so that is a yes. Deployment in late 06 or early 07.
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ya know, I always thought that if I somehow one day started an apple cider company, I'd call it Coxon's Cider.
- iceperson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Nobody's stopping you from getting a standalone TiVo box and using it with your current Cox cable setup."
Other than the ghetto "eye" you have to use to have your tivo change channels on the tuner when you want anything digital (that for some reason likes to record 21, 13, or 23 when I'm trying to get something on channel 213) the lack of an HD stand alone tivo... - duckslut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Hmmm.... I am dreading the annoying commercials that come from this.
Cox's commercials make my brain bleed they're so horrible. - Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2how bout that non-cable company HD Tivo?? anyone?? bueller?? bueller??
- ingoldsby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is wonderful news. I had to return my Cox DVR and switch back to my old tivo because I couldn't stand not using the Tivo Software.
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Nobody's stopping you from getting a standalone TiVo box and using it with your current Cox cable setup."
And the fact that a 40Gig drive on a digital tuner such as a Comcast or DTV TiVo stores about 40 hours of the exact content sent by the broadcaster, no reencoding with digital audio. While a 40Gig drive on an analog tuner or SVideo connected standalone TiVo records about 8 Hours of "Best" quality which is still rencoded and not quite as good as the original and doesn't have digital audio. - kiwiboyus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My wife and I have been in Tivo withdraw ever since we had to switch from DirecTV to COX.
The COX DVR just doesn't do it the way Tivo does. WOOT! - hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awesome, I love everything about the Comcast DVR except for the extremely slow and laggy UI.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah we keep getting one where the guy leaves the waitress a "tip" which is a piece of paper that says "You can save money with Cox Cable." That is the joke.
It makes me want to punch children. - eurokc98, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So when I have to call Cox for cutomer support should I start the call:
Listen up Cox.....
Just ordered the tivo service today though tivo's site with box and a year for 83 bucks. Im a newb to this but looking forward to football season with no comercials. - Callaway7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm very happy to read this. I'm "hoping" this will happen in all the Cox markets rather than a select few. The Cox DVR offered in Las Vegas has a tendency to reboot when it wants =(
- redwoodtree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"As with Comcast’s Motorola 6412 boxes" , what does that mean...
I have a 6412 with Comcast and it has Microsoft software on there that sucks rocks. I can replace it with tivo software?? - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Considering that TimeWarner charges roughly $17 or so a month for the DVR (~$8) and the DVR service (~$9) I wouldn't get your hopes up. One of the biggest rip offs out there.
- vampiregabe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Great. We get f-ing Tivo but are still without local HD channels via cable (HR, Virginia).
Thanks again Cox for charging more than Dish/DTV and offering less services. Having customer support that can not find itself out of a wet paper bag. Charging $20 if I am not at home on a service call, but refusing to pay me $20 when your service person does not show up, causing me to loose a day of vacation time.
It baffles me that a company can have such issues, yet tout overpriced products/services that it does. Then has the gall to offer more useless crap. Hmm, I wonder how much (more) Cox will charge everyone for this, cause with Cox, if one uses it, everyone pays for it.
And to those who feel this is just a flame:
1. No view of the southern/northern skies. Trees. No reception for DTV/Dish.
2. Large distance from digital broadcast antennas. Trees. Large buildings hinder OTA.
3. Currently I pay over $130/month for Cable, Internet, Phone through Cox. This is with NO extras like HBO/Show/etc, and never using the phone service.
The first two issues leave no choice where I get TV reception from. - techbum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's about time. Hopefully their implementation will support networking so that my other TIVO's can exchange video with my one HD Cox DVR.
- Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I feel the same way about Directtv. I love their service. They've always been extremely helpful, and I was amazed at how fast I was able to get it installed. I called them on December 22nd and it was installed on the 24th. Christmas Eve! First time I got Time warner (like 10 years ago) was also around christmas, and they installed it mid-January.
Time Warner charges $8 per cable box per month, and that's if you dont have a DVR. Directtv chargers $5 per box per month, and the first is free. So for me, 3 boxes for $10 vs. $24 with Time warner. That alone is $168 per year. Plus, their deal right now is incredible. Gah, looking at these installation charges with Time warner.. $45 for installation, $30 for reconnects, $20 for each additional outlet, $32 just for coming out, change of service $30 (Charging customers who want to add programming?!) Admin charge $5.75 ridiculous, all of that's free with Direct TV.
Plus, you can change your programming instantly online with Directtv. If I only have Showtime and I see something on HBO i wanna watch, I can logon and turn off showtime and add HBO free of charge. It instantly updates with the new programming. (Can only do once every 24 hours I think...) - hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It can actually do HD programming, and really, that's all I care about.
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does Comcast TiVo support broadband connectivity and MRV. HMO, HME, TiVo2Go?
MRV = Multi Room Viewing, record on one TiVo and playback on another.
HMO = Home Media Option (Was an option, now standard), view jpg and play mp3s sored on your PC.
HME = Home Media Engine, a free SDK released by TiVo to develop custom java based applications (http://tivohme.sourceforge.net/)
TiVo2Go = The ability to transfer video programs to and from your PC including the ability to edit, burn, and re-encode for portable devices.
All of these were left off of the DirecTV TiVo systems, hopefully they will be on the Comcast boxes! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's up with Charter Comm? I've had them at my last two residences and it seems htey're lagging behind. They only offer 3mbit download speed while everyone else in the area is offering much higher.
Anyone have any news on them improving or anything? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So your saying your wife has been in withdraw since you switched to COX? hahaha!
- becominglumberg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Do cox have a good HD lineup in your neighborhood? In Hampton Roads, VA it is pathetic.
Mayhaps verizon will sign up with TIVO as well, since i have seen their trucks laying FiOS down the street outside my apartment. 0.0 - ThePDW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I suppose if you have Cinemax, then Cox will be coming on Tivo.
You asked for it. - turbodigg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I have directv, and I can tell you, It is WAY better than Digital Cable. Not only do you get prompt service (the installation man was here within a few days of when our order was placed, and we can take it on our RV when we go "camping" (although it's not really camping when you have a TV, but hell), and can get internet from our RV through Directv. Why Go cable? I guess the Ugly Dish on the roof is a downside... Oh and the dvr with dish is way better too...
- dyakovich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting. A deal with TIVO can be made quickly. A deal to get ABC HD in Connecticut has been in the works for 3 years and still no luck.
- seinman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Nobody's stopping you from getting a standalone TiVo box and using it with your current Cox cable setup.
- paradroid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was a Comcast customer until recently when Comcast and Time Warner bought Adelphia and did the whole customer swap thing, so now I'm with Time Warner, but still have the Comcast/Motorola DVR.
Anyone know if Time Warner is still planning to roll out Tivo for the Motorola DVR? Are they gonna take away my Motorola DVR and replace it with what Time Warner offers (Scientific Atlantic I think)? - phenolholic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1tivo, the mythbox setup with a monthly fee. why not just install a dedicated mythbox setup with a cool looking HTPC case, and stop making corperate america richer, especially if their OS is a free one (yes, tivo's OS is linux)
- bi0metric, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have Cox cable and even though Cox is already the #1 cable company in like the whole world this will be even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- bubba9999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Digital Max is analog gay. - mgadalsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds interesting... My cat loves tivo :)
- phenolholic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1#1) I have my mythbox on 4 satellites and 1 HD cable (2 on Dish (English and International channels), 1 on directv (nfl sunday ticket), and 1 on BEV for different english channels than those on american territories), comcast HD (when it rains and the sats dont work and to watch on demand movies). lets see tivo do that seamlessly.
#2) my mythbox was scrap hardware with the exception of a nice HTPC case, a logitech harmony 680 remote, and a 200gb hdd ($200 spent in total).
#3) as mentioned above, the logitech harmony 680 owns any remote, bar none.
#4) Tivo can suck my balls. if there was a flat fee for the hardware, fine. but wtf is the monthly fee for?
imagine a Tivo + a pc. that's my setup. RSS feeds, dvd player (and burner), mp3/divx player, download & burn music/videos/movies on the fly and have it downloading while watching tv, go on the web, weather forecasts, shop on ebay, browse myspace or youtube or what have you, etc all done from my big comfy couch with a nifty remote and wireless keyboard? yes, go ahead, go suck tivo's fat corperate *****. - cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Because my DirecTivo box works better with my satellite service.
Because it was cheaper than a mythbox setup. Including the Hacks and the larger HD.
Because it comes with the Tivo remote.
Because I like Tivo, the company. - ajwees41, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The tivo software will be released for the SA dvr's first and the 6412's in the 2nd half of 2007.
ajwees41 - rjmorton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Let's hope this isn't the first deal TiVo makes with Cable companies. They pioneered the DVR and are still the best in the business. Only problem is, cable companies tend to push them out of the market with their cheap imitations.
