- jmet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5DrWho: There is no MPEG 4 DVR atm, not to mention that the MPEG4 content to be completed by 2007 will be local networks only and will be a miracle if completed in time.
HR10-250 = only HD DVR from DTV atm
HR20 = Only MPEG4 box - RstyShackleford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Did you really buy it, or just pay a lot of money to "lease" it?
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=287514 - Schwingding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That sucks! This means that DirecTV will probably continue to prohibit any sort of home media center connection to their boxes. Standard TIVOs allow you to connect wireless network adapters and move shows to your PC or another Tivo, and program/schedule recordings right from the web. DirecTV will not allow this. I have several DirecTIVO units, including an HR10-250 HD box that I'd like to connect together, but DirecTV will not download the software upgrade that enables these features. Of course, you can't buy a standalone TIVO unit with a DirecTV receiver in it, so you're screwed. I bet the MPEG4 boxes won't allow it either.
BTW, I don't lease my boxes, I bought them. - DVRDude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://digg.com/technology/TiVo_and_DirecTV_Extend_Pact_
- jj00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At least I know my DTivo will be supported for the next few years. Now if only they would expand the features to match the standalone version of Tivo. I would love to be able to extract video just like the Tivo-to-Go people can.
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37015
Let the extraction begin! :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As soon as my 2 yr term is up in about 1 more yr I'm leaving directv! The lease ***** is *****!!!!
~mario - dj2ndnature, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good thing, I just bought a new HD DirecTV Tivo last week.
- bugmeno19135, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The free and easy way to upgrade your Directivo with all the features is this~~~> http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929&page=1&pp=30
Just read about it first. But really it couldn't be any easier. - Schwingding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice hack! But I'm not up to it.
- thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1exactly. With the instant cake software, hacking the Directivo was childs play. In addition to getting the media options, transferring shows to PC and DVD, and tivoweb, the best part is the fakecall TLC script which allows me to disregard that nightly tivo phone home garbage and put my tivo wherever I want it (without worrying about the phone jack being near the unit somewhere)
- milhousebambata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can hack DirecTivos easily enough.
Mine has Ethernet, Home Media, Multi-Room Viewing, TivoWeb, plus a bunch of extra things that (I dont think) starndard Tivos dont have, like On-Screen Caller ID, pulling full resolution recordings off it, and watching live TV on your computer. - zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm at the end for my love for TIVO. I'm going to home brew route MythTV and supports video from other sources
besides DTV and Cable. - jimmyt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MPEP4 DVR is not out yet.. and no one knows when.. Directv has said 2nd qtr this year.. here we are in qtr 2, and no mention of it.. HD Tivo will work for a while - None of the national HD channels are mpeg4 yet, only the local HD channels via satellite are mpeg4, so if you can't get your locals OTA, then you can not record them.
- paulson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It honestly isn't that hard to install all those extra features into the DirecTV TiVo... I'm not a linux person and it took me about a week to figure it out. I now have all the features that the regular tivo's have and more on my DirecTV. I also have multiroom viewing and all my tivo's are networked. It's really really nice.
The key point is just spend some time researching and do it, or buy another one off of ebay and experiment with that one. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hope you bought the MPEG4 compatible one.
As they will be airing MPEG4 only by the end of 2007, everywhere in the USA.
The MPEG2 HD decoder will be obsolete, and in some area it already is. - soncaliente, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If your lazy you can purchase a hardrive from http://ptvupgrade.com that comes network ready making it very easy to add any of the Tivo hacks that are available. (Just add a network adapter to the USB port...the drive enables this too) They are kind of pricey but they can save you a lot of time. Great company to work with too.
- cgbale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great to see that the contract was extended. I hope DirecTV finally gets on the ball and upgrades the HR10-250 HD TiVo to the newer v6.2 software that the Standard Definition boxes have (to add folders and speed). But what I really want is feature parity with the stand-alone TiVo models, for Home Media / TiVo Desktop / Multi-room viewing.
