- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47Coming soon to a theater near you: "Ocean's 360"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36I doubt they actually stole 13 xbox 360's so they can go home and play halo.
They will sell them. - ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33vids? as in, someone doing a live story as its happening?
"excuse me, sir, can you tell our viewers exactly why you're digging under this gamestop?" - edilclyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18@SourWorm
nah... they can go back to the hole again and steal games - nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17True...by the submitter's logic, every room in my house has a "tunnel" leading into it. I just call them doorways.
- cmyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13In hindsight, most of the Gamestop employees are smacking themselves for not being suspicious of that Rita Hayworth poster that mysteriously showed up on the back wall a few weeks prior.
- warox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Obviously some morons probably will buy one, but I bet that Live will be the downfall of the thieves. I am sure Microsoft has the serial number of the stolen 360s and therefore MAC address of all the 360s on watch. Once they show up on live, I bet MS will subpoena the ISPs for the physical address of the corresponding IP address.
I have visions of a no-knock raid pwning some unsuspecting kid who bought a 360 on ebay. - reconbot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11That's the mac of your gateway, your packets need your gateway's mac in the header so the switches send it the packets. You'll never see the mac of a nic you're not on the same segment with.
The xbox itself knows it's mac address and probably sends it during login along with S/N and dashboard version or whatever.
Oh and
000E83 Cisco Systems (Your router?) - ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Most little stores only keep the camera pointed at the front door. There's usually no reason to film the back wall.
- SourWorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Hahaha, they might even have to pay money for games! Oh no.
- Caboose125, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That's really insane. I can't believe that anyone could be so desperate as to drill under a wall. That would be hard as hell.
Morons. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -13/+20The summary is off, the article notes they really were after what they thought were a stash of PS3's - and instead found empty boxes.
The really funny thing is they'll be paying for those 360's anyway when they find they need to hook up with Live for online multiplayer. - ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8People who try to flame nerds on Digg probably DO get executed...
- allanak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@warox: MAC addresses aren't sent over TCP/IP...and I doubt they know which ones are stolen unless they keep track of what serial #s they sell at time of purchase. Even then, they probably don't have them.
- CalipsoII, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@allanak
Partially correct, but don't think a MAC address can't be found if you know an IP.

- Namingishard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Um "Through the back wall" is not under.
- Ohnodonho, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Dugg for the thieves being so stupid. All that for a PS3?! And they didn't even get one. Come on, at least get a wii.
- Digitalfuneral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is like a really cheesy heist movie. They should have used this method to rob something bigger.
- ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4its still ***** awesome (not the theft, the tunneling)
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Whats really insane about all this is that there are much more valuable things to steal. Why not break into a home theater store and steal $4000 receivers? lol Even thieves are buying into the hype!
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Useless story without pictures or vids.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm sure that was the second choice, but they didn't find any of those either...
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5** Insert Great Escape Theme Here **
Col. von Luger: "So you were not attempting an escape... but to get an Xbox!?!?... 90 days Cooler" - caca4cocoPuffs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is it me or ***** like that usually happens in Florida ?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Damn those Locusts!
- deviousdragen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Maybe they should have called ahead?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3uh yea, I'm sure their plan was to play the games back at home...
- Galaeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"A Jacksonville GameStop has reported that thieves burrowed through the back wall of the video game store"
Hardly digging underground. - nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone think having an empty PS3 box in the back of a bait car would make for some great youtube-ry?
- bvaughn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When I used to work at Sam Goody, we had some people cut a hole in the roof to get in, they filled up bags with PS2 games and set the silent alarm off. They couldn't climb the rope to get back out so they were gonna go out the front, but when they went to the front the cops were standing there with guns just waiting.
- ronin2040, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wait,who the ***** uses a rope as an escape route when they can't climb?
- dezmd, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11no, genius, as in security camera footage.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All I can say is that the thieves came to their senses at the last second and realized who the ***** gets a ps3 when there is a xbox 360.
- 5hoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's up to 1337 diggs. I feel guilty digging this story now!
- Eldorian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Microsoft wouldn't even bother trying to track them down. It's Gamestop's loss, not theirs. Their money has already been made and Gamestop will just collect the insurance and move on.
- EagleX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Jacksonville is the ***** city on the planet. I live here. I know. Stuff like this is so common it's not even news.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4allanak: I'm sure that MS has built-in functionality in Live & the 360 that allows them to find out anything they want to know about any xbox that hooks up to the service. serial number, MAC address, and a slew of other things to verify the machine's integrity.
- Kale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why do you think Fark has a "Florida" tag? And where did I hear about some game show where they told a news story and you had to guess if it was Florida or Germany?
- Markie1006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well to be fair, whichever idiot used the term 'burrowed', implied underground.
Burrowed:
1. a: To dig a hole or tunnel for habitation or refuge.
--- b: To live or hide in such a place.
2. To move or progress by or as if by digging or tunneling
It would have been more accurate to say 'broke through' - bullox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those elves sure are getting crafty nowadays.
- ZenKai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It was actually a team of Sony operatives that pulled off the heist. "See how good our console is? People are chewing through sheet rock to get them!"
- jriley101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL. I am not sure if eBay is going to be happy hearing that.
http://www.techtagg.com - GeekedAtBirth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1After all that...they almost deserve to get them...after all, it IS made by...by...it-who-must-not-be-named.
- gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Crooks are stupid.
- Slovenian6474, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This probably would have been more effective if they did this, oh say, last month.
- insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The 360s cost more and therefore will earn more money. Plus the store probably had a lot more 360s than wiis.
