- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -17/+143LOL thieves pick Blu-Ray over HD-DVD. Say what you will, but this is CONCLUSIVE evidence that Blu-Ray will win.
- theflavor, on 10/10/2007, -3/+116"No word yet on if HD DVD fans are planning a coordinated group theft to reestablish the popularity of their chosen format."
From the article. - DeathJux, on 10/10/2007, -12/+75THE FORMAT WAR IS OVER!
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -8/+57By extension, the HD-DVDs then weren't even worth stealing.
- webcure, on 10/10/2007, -9/+50Damn, those thieves were informed. High techie low lifers...
- combustion8, on 10/10/2007, -7/+45maybe because they stole a blu-ray player the night before.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -3/+33Police later released a composite sketch of the suspects in question: http://english.people.com.cn/200506/28/images/0627_C27.jpg
- nrighton, on 10/10/2007, -5/+35boy are these guys gonna be pissed when they try playing them in their DVD players.
- rudy23, on 10/10/2007, -16/+45Blockbuster support, Industry support, manufacturer support and now support and solidarity from thieves. sorry HDDVD you that was the last nail in your coffin.
- SaII, on 10/10/2007, -2/+29maybe it's because Blu-Ray sounds a hell of a lot cooler than the conventional 'HD-DVD'
- spawnfree, on 10/10/2007, -3/+29UMD. haha
- zeromancer, on 10/10/2007, -25/+50stolen because they weren't worth paying for?

- DiggzDE, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23I believe he was trying to say, "Dumb thieves, only a hand full of people can use them (blu-ray discs). It may make it easier to catch them."
What it came off as him saying, "I've drank way too much today and it is only 11am in the morning. Man I am wasted." - donsmith, on 10/10/2007, -11/+30Forget which is better, Sony backing makes up for everything. HD DVD is primarily a hardware manufacturing backed platform--I don't think any of the major studios were backing HD DVD only.
- Angmar, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23Universal Studios is an exclusive backer of HD-DVD.
- rudy23, on 10/10/2007, -12/+29I pray to god that this truly is the end of HDDVD. not because I dont like it. Just because its about time we had on format.

- Vandango, on 10/10/2007, -16/+29Acutally, the real news is that the HD-DVD's looked attractive until they realized that their XBOX 360 was Red Ringed and Wii couldn't play anything in a HD format.
- polyGone, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16poop
- jpop, on 10/10/2007, -8/+20Personally, I was thinking it was because the blu-ray encryption was cracked, so they could pirate the disks.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13It's rather moot.
Both formats are standard disc size, so all the manufacturer has to do is add the capability to play both formats. It's not really that difficult.
Plus BluRay dual layer will have 50 GB where HD-DVD is only 30. Personally I'd rather have the 20 extra gigs. Seeing as how most people on here are tech oriented, you should too.
I don't get why people take sides over stupid disc formats. Pick whatever one is most useful. We can all use more space. - Renton, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13But if they took all the blu-ray movies, consumers would only be left to buy HD-DVDs.
- kz26, on 10/10/2007, -7/+18It was a last-ditch effort by the HD-DVD Forum guys to win the format war.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Wow your so clever, to bad someone already said that

- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Huge BluRay fan here. I don't like HD-DVD, I think Toshiba should give it up.
But I have to say you're full of *****. Early BluRay releases looked worse, now they all look the same, and even usually use the same encodes on both formats. - Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9in the stores around me both formats range from 25 - 35 $$
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12They cost more, if i was going to steal item "x" i would steal the most expensive items i could grab quick

Thieves steal store's entire Blu-ray section
Chance of getting property back slim
By CASEY MCNERTHNEY P-I REPORTER
Seattle police are investigating a Sunday morning burglary at the Northgate Silver Platters, where employees say thieves grabbed about 200 Blu-ray discs with a retail value of more than $7,000. "They basically took our whole Blu-ray section," said Mike Batt, a vice president for the company, which has four King County locations. "Genre didn't matter to them." A store security system was triggered about 6:40 a.m. when a double-paned window was broken, according to a police report. The Northgate store has no video surveillance, but "there's no way this was all done by one person," Batt said. Costs of players and discs have kept Blu-ray -- a format that can hold more than five times as much information as a single-layer DVD -- from being extremely popular, Batt said. Discs are about $35 each and PlayStation 3 is the least-expensive player, retailing at $499. "They seemed to know what they wanted," he said. Anyone with information about the Silver Platters burglary is asked to call Seattle police at 206-625-5011. - clackerd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7FTW FTL
- KyleMistry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Awesome, I just won $10. I bet my friend that someone would return this to the PS3/360 war that constantly reoccurs, in the first 5 comments.
Now to put that money into a PS3 game worth buying. Lair!

- Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6the stores buy the products from the company.. so i'd say they lose nothing. the store loses money.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8zomg he poked fun at an American company.
*Proceeding to digg down* - combustion8, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10easily a 50% loss.
- retawd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Take off the boxing gloves before you begin typing... Actually, give up boxing altogether. I don't think you can take another punch to the noggin.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7You mean the "Bourne" catalog, and "Nutty Professor II"?
Vs. Pirates and Spiderman?
Which realistically will sell more discs? - JigoroKano, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You are full of crap. Anybody can see that BD discs are on average a couple of dollars cheaper than HD discs. Many HD-DVD's only come as combination DVD/HD-DVD discs and that inflates the price for people who don't want that feature (it also caps the size of the HD-DVD side disallowing higher quality audio and other niceties).
The picture quality is pretty much the same for regular length movies and HD-DVD does have the PnP now, but BD has higher quality audio support now (lossless, high bitrate codecs in 7.1 surround). Both should reach parity with those two features within a couple of years... assuming they survive. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+5You got the joke. He didn't.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/10/2007, -10/+14And the Xbox360 boat wasn't lame?
- Spr0k3t, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It will end when one of the formats has been officially canceled.
- KyleMistry, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sony is sleazy! Underhanded! Conniving! So whatever you do, don't buy their...disc format?
It's not like they're trying to sell you car insurance. Back under the tin-foil cap with you. - clackerd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5wow. you suck.
