- DimensionalPunk, on 09/04/2009, -0/+14As a C4 quadriplegic, I approve this new technology.
- noahgelman, on 09/04/2009, -4/+13How ***** lazy are we that we would need a chip in our brain to turn on the TV or a light switch? I could only condone this for the seriously disabled. A normal person getting this installed is just sad.
- Pulsedriv3r, on 09/04/2009, -0/+7Ah yes, it won't be long now unti--
ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD - center311, on 09/04/2009, -0/+7Ugh..I'm too lazy to turn on the tv with my mind
- y2kery, on 09/04/2009, -0/+7And I just spend all this money on a universal remote.
- BlindingDawn, on 09/04/2009, -2/+9Are we sure it only works one way?
- Jonjonr6, on 09/03/2009, -2/+9Sudo turn on TV?
- craznar, on 09/04/2009, -0/+6If it can help Christopher Reeve ... it's a winner.
- KPolulak, on 09/04/2009, -0/+5Great point.
Technology is too commonly used to fix things that weren't broken to begin with.
However, it does say at the bottom of the article:
"We are just trying to help people with severe communication problems or motor neurone disease - like Dr Stephen Hawking or Christopher Reeve".
That there makes sense to me; using technology to solve a common problem or, in this case, to benefit the unfortunate. - inactive, on 09/04/2009, -0/+5With technology like this it's sad we use it to benefit fat ass America.
- Foamator, on 09/04/2009, -0/+4But wait, there's more!
http://www.firebox.com/product/2399/Star-Wars-Forc ... - Numb51, on 09/04/2009, -1/+5He's dead.
- exitsec, on 09/04/2009, -1/+5Goes both ways, you turn ON the TV, and the the TV turns you OFF.
- cabes, on 09/04/2009, -0/+4Thanks tips.
- danwallace, on 09/04/2009, -0/+3.. Jim.
- lilhelper, on 09/04/2009, -1/+4The future is here. People don't realize the boom in technology we are about to see. Its knocking on our door.
- supremegoat02, on 09/04/2009, -0/+3"Honey, the TV's broken it keeps changing to porn..."
"Oh uhhhh...sorry" - amarketingman, on 09/04/2009, -0/+3but hey, now you don't have to worry about the remote getting sticky when your watching porn, right?
- CaputNoodle, on 09/04/2009, -0/+3It's been done. I have seen videos from the trials, which included moving a wheelchair:

http://www.cyberkineticsinc.com/ - theDashRendar, on 09/04/2009, -0/+3Anyone else eagerly awaiting being able to upload all of wikipedia directly to our brains so that we never really need to learn anything to reference it?
- inactive, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2unless its glenn beck ...he says always ask questions and ask them with no fear and then he makes me so scared i start believing what hes telling me and then i start asking the questions he says i should ask...but i like to yell them....
- hannahmar, on 09/04/2009, -2/+4Worst use of telepathy ever.
- ThermiteTerrace, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2The Clapper v. 2.0- The Winker?
- LoopyChew, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2Do you really want your wife to control what TV you can watch?
- cabes, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2I don't know how much this is going to help Christopher Reeve, but good luck scientists!
- happyzombie, on 09/04/2009, -2/+4Wouldn't this be technopathy?
- Kijael, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2While I can see this as something quite primitive, it would be useful to the disabled. Plus its only the beginning stages of brain/machine interfaces. I can see research like this leading on to more advanced interfaces. Imagine having programmable macros for the brain and natural language parsing of commands. Now where is my ono-sendai
- earlvanze, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2and china for mass production of materials.
- lolwutpear, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2Reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyQv61899HE
except without the surgery, and it already works fairly well. I couldn't find the most recent video, from some sort of NI conference that shows a larger set of words and better wheelchair maneuvering, but the above one is still good. - stuffradio, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2Sudo make me a sandwich. Oops, that's a girl and not a TV :(
- mrkmrk, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2Will you be saying that we can use it to turn on our computers, enter in a much more complex form of a password, and then navigate and type without lifting a finger?
- CaputNoodle, on 09/04/2009, -0/+2And a computer cursor
- ECas123, on 09/04/2009, -3/+4Or you can... you know, press that "On" button.
- earlvanze, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1or getting it lost between the couch cushions.
- Awesomecat, on 09/04/2009, -1/+2When I sneezed, the toilet flushed and the toast popped up.
- supermanred, on 09/06/2009, -0/+1And the police will be able to switch you off instead of tazing you, and the governmment will be able to make you like every law they pass.
No chips for me. Ever. - antdude, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1I wouldn't mind the TV making a sandwich.
- supermanred, on 09/06/2009, -0/+1Why would a dead person want to turn on a TV?
- ChromaVita, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1It's like I'm superman every time I turn on my TV!
- Kazbaeden, on 09/04/2009, -2/+3With all the awesome potential technology which enables telepathy would have, all we can think of is using it to turn on the television.
That's what's wrong with the world. Right there. - unlimitedmp, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1Children of the future will be able to turn on the tv secretly in class!
Like those TV remote watches of old. - Nedd8, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1The vision of Edward Nygma has finally been realized.
- 1ofMany, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1Can I get one installed in my wife?
- Thargok, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1But can you play Atari?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_Mindlink - startsomething7, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1Main screen turn on.
- mrkmrk, on 09/04/2009, -0/+1Civilization isn't all about fixing things which "are broken." Civilization is about improving on what we have to make life easier for humanity.
- KPolulak, on 09/05/2009, -0/+1To mrkmrk:
I think you missed my point because I never used the phrase "civilization is all about..." anywhere within my comment. You did.
Allow me to clarify:
"In American society, too much effort is spent on applying technology in places where it is not needed". -
