- khabba, on 10/23/2009, -1/+35The secret to Linkedin's success is that you can't delete your profile. It's a trap!
- Mujokan, on 10/23/2009, -0/+24It's a site that sometimes turns up when you are stalking people online.
- ryanvl, on 10/23/2009, -1/+20It's not LinkedIn breaking your industry group's code of ethics
- pstroll, on 10/23/2009, -2/+21The secret:
10 Stupid coworkers who sign up
20 Coworkers who don't want to sign up, but feel guilty when they are sent an invite so they sign up
30 goto 10 - collution, on 10/23/2009, -0/+16"While the LinkedIn 50 million may pale in comparison with the Facebook 300 million army, its achievement is quite remarkable when one considers that there are only around 360 million white collar professional people in the entire world (at least according to the latest International Department of Labor numbers). So over 10% of the world’s professionals are already on LinkedIn."
And just how many of these accounts are active? I think LinkedIn's model has worked well for them but this article is far too generous. - websyndicate, on 10/23/2009, -5/+20Linked In is sucessful?
- alpha94, on 10/23/2009, -0/+11Then hide your contacts.
- fuzybuny, on 10/23/2009, -0/+10Linkedin has a good idea but it's poorly executed
- RudeTurnip, on 10/23/2009, -4/+14I'm on LinkedIn, but I find it a little offputting that they can show links between me and some of my clients when my industry group's code of ethics has a clause regarding confidentiality between me and my clients.
- tiltedsun, on 10/23/2009, -1/+9It's like volunteering for Spam
- Kromel, on 10/23/2009, -5/+13What's LinkedIn?
- spworm, on 10/23/2009, -0/+7Apparently this is true, but I used to have an account and I deleted it.
Thing is, I have no idea how I did it at the time, or if this has changed.
I think I just filled in ***** information, ie: Santa Clause, University of Hamburglars, etc. - Mujokan, on 10/23/2009, -0/+6"All I want out of life is to be a monkey of moderate intelligence who wears a suit. That's why I've decided to transfer to business school!"
- spworm, on 10/23/2009, -0/+5The secret is that you can't delete your profile once it's online.
- MentalBeaver, on 10/23/2009, -0/+4How about when someone sends you an invitation and LinkedIn keeps e-mailing you about it without giving you an option of opting out. I'm sure people will create a profile in the hope of finding a "Stop bugging me" option somewhere.
- FormerBabby, on 10/23/2009, -0/+4The suits at my work go ape ***** for LinkedIn. They are a sad bunch of monkeys.
- NeoNevermore, on 10/23/2009, -0/+4NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
- EdDiggEd, on 10/23/2009, -0/+4It's MySpace for suits.
Less sparkly gifs though. - antdude, on 10/24/2009, -0/+3Isn't that true for all social networking sites? :(
- Kromel, on 10/23/2009, -0/+3This doesn't sound like a happy place at all...
- aosmitty, on 10/23/2009, -0/+3LinkedIn is that profile I have but never check. I got into it briefly when I was laid off earlier this summer but it did ZERO for me in my job search. I found my current position with the help of a temp agency /shrug
If you're into networking, I think you still have to stick with the traditional meet-and-greet (face to face) social stuff, not some poorly executed ZOMG SOCIAL MEDIA ONEONEONE website.
Edit: I mean, it's a nice place to throw references up, but I wouldn't count on it for anything more than that, currently. - dvsbastard, on 10/23/2009, -1/+4LinkedIn is successful because they get media outlets to post advertisements disguised as news articles... and then get these articles linked on the front page of social media websites such as digg...
- ProfessorLX, on 10/23/2009, -2/+5WTF is linked in?
isnt it a band or something with that song Hit the Floor or some *****? - justinlarsen, on 10/23/2009, -1/+3From reading the comments I assume I will get dugg down from this one. But I find the LinkedIn user experience to be one of the most simple and intuitive social networking sites around. Facebook used to be good, but is now overloaded with crap. Myspace I don't even need to explain.
I have received many job and freelance prospects from LinkedIn over the years. If used properly can defiantly expand your business network.
As far as the article goes, its defiantly over-hyped the site. - GrandZooby, on 10/23/2009, -1/+3Yes, I'm certain it would be tons better if they had quizzes, games, and the ability to play music on your profile. I can't wait!
- Charmainelim, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2LinkedIn is not beneficial for small businesses to generate leads.
- lovek, on 10/23/2009, -1/+3I have a LinkedIn account I haven't touched in over a year... maybe two. And yet, I got a call for a job interview yesterday based on it.
Just because an LinkedIn account isn't active doesn't mean it isn't helpful. And I think maybe THAT's how they succeed. - rif42, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2That sounds more like the Twytter business plan.
- stonebear, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2Smacks a little of shilling, doesn't it.
- GrandZooby, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1And it's missing all the fun quizzes and games. I'm so sad there are no quizzes to find out "what kind of feminine hygiene product" my former coworkers are. And the green patches, and the virtual drinks. It's a travesty.
- spunalot, on 10/23/2009, -2/+3Its to pricey to use their services for job hunting. They need to lower them.
- satori3000, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1I have next to no info on it as I was an early adopter and wasn't convinced that it would amount to anything. I'm still not convinced that it will amount to anything. I'm a project manager and work with a lot of other project managers and engineers and we know no one who uses this network other than to list their resume in.
- thrillho, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1$100M in funding
- geminito, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1Look up "defiantly" in the dictionary.
- dma1965, on 10/23/2009, -1/+1Like I said in my post, you have to work it. All my business in 2009 is a direct result of LinkedIN.
- lenhartley, on 10/28/2009, -0/+0Over the years, you work with many people. Emails, phone numbers and workplaces change over the years.
I like LinkedIn primarily as a way of keeping current contact information for former colleagues who I respect. Every now and then, something comes up where I want to get in touch. If I'm not in regular email contact, I know LinkedIn will provide me with their current contact information. - AndrewDB, on 10/23/2009, -1/+1Extremely, they're actually pulling people away from Google.
- Retrodigg123, on 10/23/2009, -1/+1wtf is a su_ c ks?
- RudeTurnip, on 10/23/2009, -3/+2Me neither; I just don't link to them.
- dma1965, on 10/23/2009, -6/+4100% of my new business in the last year has been a result of my activity on LinkedIN. At first, it did nothing for me (joined about 4 years ago). Once I became active (posting, asking and answering questions, joining groups, starting groups, starting and participating in discussions, making and asking for recommendations, etc) the work started pouring in. I discovered that, like anything else, you have to work it. I have managed to keep my head over water by using LinkedIN, and I still am using a free account.
Oh, and by the way, the iPhone app sucks wind. - marlow4, on 10/23/2009, -4/+2Buried for BASIC. Cool kids are all using Erlang or Lisp nowadays. :)
- darkhorn, on 10/23/2009, -4/+1It su_c ks, my inustry is not in the list! so, of course i do not use it.
- populous, on 10/23/2009, -6/+0Howliee ****.... Now, Ive seen everything.. Linked In isnt famous!! Its just.. there...
