Wonderful... now look what you have done! - ludwik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18mrASSMAN - in Privacy Policy:

http://www.searchmash.com/about/privacy.html - moojj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Very interesting interface. The images on the right hand side seems like a good idea.
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Is that sarcasm @dzmetcalf? Because that font has been around since my friends and I were teenies making emotional websites about our lives, our pixelated webcams and using RealMedia for R&B background music by start-up pinay groups...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10it might just be me using firefox, but whenever i go to google.com i always automatically have a blinking cursor in the search field....
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I agree with moojj. But where would they put the ads if the images are there? Adless?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17Are you sure? Looks ugly to me.
- Hydraulix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10http://www.searchmash.com/about/tos.html shows that it's own by google.
For all you non-believers. :) - bjohnsonwsu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11mrASSMAN - first sentence of their privacy page reads: "SearchMash is a website operated by Google Inc."
They're not hiding it, really. They're just not out waving flags. - apoorvs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Looks like Google's experiment with the use of DHTML in search.
- codercode, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It seems like Digg does have loopholes. The very same article was submitted 1 day 13 hours ago http://digg.com/tech_news/SearchMash_com_Google_s_Search_Mashup but only got 22 diggs until now. A simple check shows that the original submitter of the story, tonyruscoe (http://digg.com/users/tonyruscoe) has no rank at all while the submitter of this story Mr/Ms titlesaysitall is ranked 98th.
Digg rules! - aiken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Entertaining: enter "google" as a search word, and check out the third image result.
- Caliente, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I like it, but what is the point of reordering the search results??? A repeat search of the same string has the search results back in the old order anyway.
I don't get it. Perhaps its a realtime ranking system in place for the future. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is what Google's wanting people to do:
http://www.searchmash.com/about/features.html
Tell them which features you like and dislike. - CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Monster trucks also rule.
- 009l0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Looks good to me!
- maximinus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For some reason, the "more results" doesn't seem to work properly in Firefox. Sometimes it won't give me any more results at all; others I can get a single lot of extras (total 20 results). Works fine in IE, though.
- gimianame, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5you dont need to click on the text bar to start typing, wow its so simple..why didn't anyone think of that before??
- JimDinger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ok then we bury this one and Digg the hell out of the other one, give the under guy a chance.
The person who submitted this one should know about dupes, right? - matthewaaron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I searched for "fun" and this image came up on the right...
http://ftp.utia.cas.cz/pub/staff/gao/fun/att1.jpg - Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I do believe you are right. Nobody could have thought of that before...
- htiawe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3One thing that isnt that good with adding more results is that you cant link to that specific page where the result is.
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3SearchMash seems down. Google got dugg?
- iFrank, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I was thinking the same thing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I personally think the font on searchmash is ugly, but I guess it suits the site fine. The word "digg" makes much better use of that type of font, IMO.
- Visible, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Pretty cool. Follow link to http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/061002-192616 for more information
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3its hardly anything new though, a9 has had related images on the side forever
- w0rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can try this one out:
http://khoury.brazil.googlepages.com/SearchMash.html
(just click and add) - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Yes, Digg pioneered its use, I'm sure Google stole it from Kevin and the gang.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The next page/scrolling feature is really usefull.
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, if you check the about and then features page, you will find all the features listed are browser dynamic functions. Good for testing, but I like the good old standard Google better. I can see no need for most of these functions other than show off...
- tonyruscoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ codercode - thanks for the mention.
@ titlesaysitall - apology accepted ;-) no hard feelings. i guess the dupe checker didn't pick it up because you didn't mention "searchmash" in the title and linked to a news story rather than the actual site. - JeremiahLBurns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2a search for 'google' returns - the google thong??
http://www.searchmash.com/search/google - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I prefer old school Google too. These new features would be useful for my personal Google homepage though.
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sort of torn on this searchmash...
I like that it's simple, but the dotted lines remind me of annoying CSS tricks and for some reason, all I can think of is del.icio.us when I look at the search results or mouseover them. It's just a plain search engine, which is great. But it's hard to look at. Maybe it's all the pastel? And the 'move' feature doesn't work properly on my Opera, hm..
I'll add it to my list because I already use Google, Yahoo and Ask.... - jshanman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you are a programmer, you can access all the results of this page via JSON:
http://www.searchmash.com/results/battle+of+fort+sumter
I wonder if they will open this as an API similar (or a part of) to google search API... - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well it would've been nice if that popped up in the dupe results when submitting the story. Bury this one and Digg the other one if you want. BTW tonyruscoe I am sorry for duping your story.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2When someone asking about my sarcasm gets dugg more than my sarcasm...
I guess Digg doesn't seem to get my sarcasm. - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@tonyruscoe, I linked to the Cnet News story searchmash because it offered some more insight to Search Mash.
- smohan123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it terribly ugly. However, I like the lack of anything really there. Just a barebones search. If this is a UI experiment, please Google, move onto the next template.
- ElMoselYEE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and google puts images right on top...
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love the minimalistic look - especially in the image results - compare that to Google.
All the Ajaxness makes it awesome too - man - nice search.... - OrlyonokEaglet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it does look interesting, but where can I change preferences? I want more than 10 results (although pressing 'more web pages' is ok but not every 10 results). I also want to change language preferences. And it doesn't support queries like define:, currency conversion etc. And it doesn't save Search History.
But I noticed something else, I saw similar highlightable frames on normal google around images on one computer for the image results. Does anyone else have this? - stylesP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1works fine for me with bon echo
- Tazmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and because it would allow the dupe
- chaos386, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works for me in FF 1.5.0.7 as well. The only thing that doesn't work is the "You don't have to have your cursor in the search box to start typing your query." thing, because if I click out of the search box, Firefox starts doing find-as-you-type.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like it better than Google.
- dzmetcalf, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Looks like google likes the digg font
- mrzmyrmtthws, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most likely, Google is using this to test new features for the Google Site, there was a digg with in the last two days about Google trying to move ahead and advancing their products. I'm sure this is just one platform for testing. They probably just made it look so different from Google to keep people from completely associating the two. I realize they aren't hiding the association, but visuals plays a big part in that kind of stuff.
