    I was in Dar-Es-Sallam Tanzania (Very poor part of the world) and went to the beach to get a coconut (fresh coconut juice). I handed my money and the guy picked up a phone. Called his guy who was ready to climb a palm tree to get a coconut. He returned to me with the coconut. This little shack of a shop couldn't print me a receipt but had wireless technology by the Indian ocean.

There are plenty of places where basic needs are met but infrastructure is immature or otherwise lacking. That's where stuff like this can help.

  • crimson117, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Even if most new internet users will use mobile phones and be in developing nations, most of the buying power will still be in developed countries on regular computers or advanced phones (iPhone, etc), so I doubt this will lead to significantly more WAP development, for commerce at least.

Seems like many other nations such as South Korea and Japan are ahead of the U.S. with embracing new technology.
