- scottmoroney, on 02/21/2009, -0/+1The brutal truth. Thanks for articulating it.
- paulmerrill, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1The only productivity tip I'd add is that having a Mac means never having to worry about viruses.
But maybe compatibility issues make up for that productivity gain. But that hasn't been a problem for me. - InfusionJoe, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1This is totally true. Good entry by Seth!
- ToryH, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1To bad organizations don't believe in these issues are critical to achieving their goals. Of the four places I have worked none of them do all of the 16 things that you mention.
- sukku, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Wow...thanks for the article. Didn't know there was so much simple things to master first.
- eco2oh, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1It's nice to know Seth's list struck a chord with you guys.
- eco2oh, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1here here old chap
- copemanm, on 02/10/2009, -0/+0Couldn't agree with you more - this digital divide is growing by the day as more and more (normally free) time-saving applications and sites become available.
In the research I've done to develop our new video-based training to get people moving again, more and more knowledgeworkers have simply shut up shop when it comes to finding out about new ways of doing things. When they were first shown how to use Excel '95 - that's where their learning has traditionally stopped due to the pressures of work. If they can scrape by with the basics - that'll do them.
What we've found is by teaching some of those basic productivity and IT skills, you can hear the "aha's" going on around the office and people get enthused about being able to save time and work smarter.
Start people on a path and they will follow...

Is reading > 5 blogs a day really going to have a beneficial effect on your productivity ? If anything I'd call that counter-productive (unless it was in some way related to your work).
- davidmasters, on 10/09/2008, -0/+0Having Linux also means not having to worry about viruses. Plus you learn more about computers work. And best of all, it's free!
- itarra, on 10/14/2008, -0/+0I've started www.itarra.com to help folks with these issues.
- bbkahlich, on 10/10/2008, -1/+0I can say absolutely yes to 14 of the 16 and "basically yes" to the other two. Does this make me special? :)
