- JnOrris, on 10/28/2009, -6/+448Garmin and Tom tom are done if Google brings this to all the platforms: iPhone, WebOS, Blackberry, WinMo.
- WarMace, on 10/28/2009, -3/+355A lot of people do not understand the importance of free turn-by-turn directions. This is right up there with free OS's, Free Image editors, etc.
Now Mio, Garmin, tomtom, etc have to stop messing around with half baked crap and actually care about what they are releasing. - identityxcrysis, on 10/28/2009, -26/+365DAMMIT I JUST LOST THE GAME!
- likwidtek, on 10/28/2009, -5/+294SELL SELL
- samezies, on 10/28/2009, -12/+229I, for one, welcome our google overlords
- commenter01, on 10/28/2009, -6/+217Lol taking financial advice from digg users.
...
Lol taking financial advice from wall street.
...
Lol finance. - strictnein, on 10/28/2009, -0/+176Good. What those morons are trying to charge for their iPhone GPS software and accessories is ridiculous. I hope Google eats their lunch (and releases their software for the iPhone, of course).
- samezies, on 10/28/2009, -6/+149I hate you
- ak666jk, on 10/28/2009, -3/+132It's okay, they promised they won't be evil!
- superkendall, on 10/28/2009, -3/+115There is still a ton of value in offline maps and stronger GPS reception, as many will discover.
- maxbass, on 10/28/2009, -1/+97Tom Tom & Garmen have been Googled.
- pattherat, on 10/28/2009, -6/+97Word of advice...sell now...
- geoken, on 10/28/2009, -6/+88What happened to traders "being in the know"? The imminent release of Google's Nav app was being heavily hinted at for a few days. The average blog reading tech enthusiasts probably would have seen this coming for a couple of days, perhaps they would have speculated immediately after seeing the Droid/Android 2.0 Review on BGR.
It just goes to show that these traders/analysts don't actually know anything, they only pretend to so they can quickly manipulate the market. - Zetal, on 10/28/2009, -8/+68...and the Google machine continues. I don't even think Microsoft commands this much respect by far.
- pathouston22, on 10/28/2009, -15/+74*****!
My Garmin stocks are down 16% today!
But still up 50% since my initial investment.
Yes! - aforsberg, on 10/28/2009, -4/+58you slut. I just lost the game.
- Rhendal, on 10/28/2009, -4/+51You son of a bitch. I was on a roll.
- zip000, on 10/28/2009, -3/+49You and me both.
- agarc, on 10/28/2009, -1/+45I'd be far more concerned about my data in Facebook's hands. Have you read their terms?
- AManWithNoName, on 10/28/2009, -4/+47You *****. I'm going to hunt you down and stab you in the back with an ice pick, and then use your blood to scrawl 'THE GAME' in large, red letters across your walls.
...Actually, that sounds like too much work. I'll just sit here and pretend I did that. Yeah, that sounds good. - SpiderTeets, on 10/28/2009, -5/+43apple would be complete morons not to accept google's app over their own.
applemaps will s google's d - tankintheair315, on 10/28/2009, -5/+42I hadn't lost in a year....
- brettz, on 10/28/2009, -1/+34the drop in share price isn't only because of google..
TomTom announced 47% less income - brycehebert, on 10/28/2009, -0/+26If Google submitted a turn-by-turn app and Apple rejected it after accepting TomTom's and various other turn-by-turn apps, it would be a total ***** storm.
- MasterPain, on 10/28/2009, -1/+27Or at least stop charging ridiculous prices for new maps.
- ZombieSociety, on 10/28/2009, -10/+35Hey guys? /b/ is that way -->
- rabidbob, on 10/28/2009, -2/+27Definitely - if I get data access on the continent it costs me a small fortune. Anyone who spends any serious amount of time out of their own country will want to have pre-loaded maps. Now if Google offers that ...

- mmx2000, on 10/28/2009, -0/+23I download videos of girls on that thing all that time, they seem to be doing well
- Shawn4168, on 10/28/2009, -1/+23It's only going downhill from here...
- CBOOTY, on 10/28/2009, -1/+23...and free porn!
- SpiderTeets, on 10/28/2009, -1/+21the GPS business has been getting old and stale as of late. just as the mobile phone business had been. it's past due for a wake up call.
unfortunately for them its probably too late, everyone knew standalone gps wouldnt last. - OverThere, on 10/28/2009, -3/+23They will. They have for pretty much all of their other mobile apps.
Also, Apple as they is rumored to be developing their map app since they acquired a mapping company named Placebase a while back.. so it may not be approved there if Apple is planning to do the same type of thing. - xsecretfiles, on 10/28/2009, -3/+20I'm glad I didn't get the Tom Tom $250 kit for the iphone lolz
- InfiniteNothing, on 10/28/2009, -2/+19Hmm, the crowd seems irrationally negative. Knowing nothing else, I'd say buy.
- borez, on 10/28/2009, -2/+182 dozen people? Mate it's the world most used phone OS.
- stevets, on 10/28/2009, -2/+17GregLoire:
You obviously don't know much about stocks.
Take a look at Garmin over the last 6 months:
stockcharts.com/c-sc/sc?s=GRMN&p=D&yr=0&mn=4&dy=0&i=p22567229680&a=182109950&r=7481
That big red candle on the right was just today. You think that's going to just magically stop tomorrow?
If I were you, Pat Houston, I would have sold already. This sucker is making a death drop. I would get out, wait for the bottom and then take another entry once it's oversold. I would also watch out for a gap down at the open tomorrow. - billygreen23, on 10/28/2009, -2/+17I hate to break it to you, but you're wrong. Garmin fell 17.2% and TomTom fell more than 20%.
- TheAngryMob, on 10/28/2009, -1/+14I wouldn't worry too much about Garmin, a huge chunk of their business also comes from Private Pilot navigation tools. I don't think Google's going to be hitting that any time soon. Expect Garmin to bounce tomorrow when people with a clue about the industry go in and grab up a ton of Garmin stock while it's cheap.
- DiggaStoleMyBik, on 10/29/2009, -2/+15Why is it only on Digg that I lose it? you *****
- ADifferentUsern, on 10/28/2009, -1/+13google=skynet?
- r1ptide64, on 10/28/2009, -0/+12My only problem with my Garmin nuvi is that the search is garbage. It's great if you have the address already, but if you're looking for a place to eat or for something to do it's complete crap. The data is usually old and unreliable. Usually what I end up doing is searching for where I want to go on google maps on my blackberry, then put that address into my Garmin.
Given that this setup has google's search built in (with decent-looking voice, at that), this is really phenomenal. - hanexar, on 10/29/2009, -3/+15@utopiannative : I guess you've realize that /b/ isn't a secret anymore. Stop playing to "the secret underground society" and grow up please.
- srs2000, on 10/28/2009, -0/+12wow.. You failed sarcasm 101.
- HigherLogic, on 10/28/2009, -6/+18I stopped using Google Maps because of how many times it's given me completely wrong directions. Until they can fix that, I'll stick with Sygic (works on iPhone, Android, Symbian, WinMo, and Linux).
- srs2000, on 10/28/2009, -3/+14..... You do understand.. That you don't have to use Google's products.. right?
Complaining is stupid. If you don't like the trade off for FREE software.. Spend your money somewhere else. - Baryn, on 10/28/2009, -9/+20I already did, 7 years ago.
- borez, on 10/28/2009, -2/+13Not forgetting Symbian
- borez, on 10/28/2009, -3/+14It's hardly the same thing it was 7 years ago + it's kinda used on 50% of all smart phones.
