- sewalsh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8a one-liner on each speaker constitutes 'at length' now?
Has ADD already twarted our attention span to that degree? - realsurreal2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's not a title it's the guy's name. And it's the first two words in the submission. Hello, is this thing on?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The whole post is stupid, as if you couldn't tell from the use of "Web 2.0".
How are we supposed to interpret this? Nobody at this point can seriously think that "Web 2.0" exists. Surely we've hammered that home enough.
So, is it supposed to be funny? Because it wasn't on day one, and it sure as hell isn't now. - realsurreal2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sorry, what did you say? I drifted off
- soccerpmn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No need to apologize, no one agrees with/understands you.
- hello2usir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Welcome to the era of self-proclaimed internet celebrity.
- SlvrEagle23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes yes, we're all sexists. You have our sincerest apologies, Anil, for disparaging this huge group of people you've taken it upon yourself to defend, despite the fact that they don't need your help at all.
Slapping on a pink shirt and advocating the IT equivalent of affirmative action for women doesn't mean that the women you're bussing in will make the men in the audience any more receptive to a new perspective. To do that, you'll have to put those same women in the workplace right next to them, or more particularly, above them in the chain of command.
A bunch of motivational speakers who live in a van down by the river won't equalize IT. No, people like Meg Whitman will make much greater strides in the industry than they ever could.
If you're not busy looking like an angry and over-accusational douchebag, Anil, tell me...how many of your co-workers at Six Apart are women? Now, consider, if all of your peers attended Web 2.0 sessions featuring women...would that number change at all? - meshman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Where are the men? Well, don't worry -- the door is open to them. As soon as one of you has done something with the impact of Flickr, something that has the number of users of Firefox, made something that's used by the elderly or the young or by someone different than you, you can participate."
Yes, it's too bad men can't create something as successful as Flickr and Firefox. (???) - judsond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is all part of an an on-going discussion now because Jason Kottke decided there weren't enough women at panels, blah blah. Anyway, some people, of course, said that the percentage accurately mirrors the audience, and then people started talking about why there are not more women in IT. Anil Dash has this list now, of influential people that obviously don't need any help, but hey, when you can make a post to ass-kiss that many people at once, including his boss Mena Trott, it gets around.
- allenporter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice story.....liked it
- silentwinter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@factoryjoe: yep, realized that after the fact. d'oh. :)
- factoryjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@silentwinter: Ironically, Anil is a man, and not a woman.
- silentwinter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anil sounds like she's let anger get the best of her, which I believe is the exact wrong route to go when trying to enter a man's world as a female. She needs to understand that trying to shame men for not welcoming females will only make matters worse. Noone reacts well to that, and it isn't any one man's fault that our culture is what it is. It's not fair, but merit and a good disposition will take you much further than browbeating men over the status quo.
- guptang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the comments are now more interesting than the post ...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't like this "intranet"
- williumbillium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"you'll have to put those same women in the workplace right next to them"? umm, i think you meant "they should have already figured it out after being in workplaces created by those women" oops.
- econoar, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8Anil Dash...sounds like some perverted flash game or something.
sorry, I had to - moojj, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2"No need to apologize, no one agrees with/understands you."
Did you even visit the site? The title was Anil Dash.. - mehss, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Oh.
