I havent seen any one post this sorta article on digg (please correct me if I am wrong) but I would say that this is pretty original stuff, he also based it off of his sites statistics he dident steal anythnig from the alexa site traffic details of digg... - SenorFrog21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Soundguy24 - Yes, the "slashdot effect" was coined because of slashdot, but I don't agree that it's the only term you can use for this. Why shouldn't digg have an "effect" named after it when it's clearly the one contributing to the flooding? If slashdot were to shut down and digg takes over the world, do you really think in 10 years we should still call it the slashdot effect, just because that's where the term started? I think there is room for more than one "effect".
- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"has been established and accepted for the phenomena, no matter what the source of the traffic. The only reason certain DIGG fans refuse to use the term is because they have this juvenile navel gazing, "me-too" viewpoint. They will argue that the "effect is different" therefore it deserves it's own name."
You get over it. This is now being "established and accepted". I am not saying the effect is different, I am merely calling it something new. And deserving a new name or not will not stop me or others from doing so.
Grandson: Hand me a kleenex.
Grandpa: It's called a tissue, damnitt!!
Grandson: It's called a kleenex too.
Grandpa: No! It's only called a tissue and nothing you say
will ever change that. It is not called a kleenex!!
(notice what grandpa just called it?)
That's my point. Arguing about it is only solidifying it.
So thanks for playing! - m85476585, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ha! I had just over 80,000 visitors from slashdot!

My website is great (Yahoo smallbusiness). It didn't even slow down a little. (I had one big file on my server and that didn't stay up long. My internet connection couldn't handle it.)
I think the IE number may be off becauuse they "forgot" the statistics. I think it was more like 20% IE. Unfortunately the log file was over 600mb so I never sucessfully downloaded it (I think it was being created as fast as than I could download).
It was on Digg too.

Digg Effect: The Top 10 Things Webmasters Should Know
http://www.digg.com/technology/Digg_Effect:_The_Top_10_Things_Webmasters_Should_Know - ttfadia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, that's crazy Matt. My server would definitely explode with that many :D
- Rotkiv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good read, dugg.
- clayasaurus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hrm... dig effect
- aheram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another post from erraticwisdom.com? Are they like, using Digg as to advertise?
- jmonw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK. Dugg.
- sgt99999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good job. I just finished Douglas Rushkoff's book Get Back in the Box. One of the things he was talking about was the importance of making connections between people. I think that your current article, though only one instance, reflects what happens when a person first gets discovered.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not bad..
- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How does one digg only for data collection purposes, anyhow?
- ttfadia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just a joke, I really wasn't expecting this to get dugg :D
- soundguy24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There is no "digg effect." The "Slashdot effect" is a term used to describe traffic flooding a popular, newly-found site, no matter who the referrer is. Just because you are a popular website who floods other smaller websites with traffic doesn't mean you get you own "effect" named after you.
- spyro187, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is cool but I would really like to see if getting dugg or slashdotted brings up views past the first few days.
- mandolinsrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If everyone would actually read the article, most people would find out that his ad revenue was not much higher, he's using his own website because that's what he monitors and puts on the internet, and it's very interesting.
aheram: No where in the description does it say that, and if you'd read the article you'd find out what the news is. - aheram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is just a bit silly. I mean, good god, look at the description. "Please click here for clicking's sake!" Is there anything newsworthy?

Seriously, did you get this mad when they stopped calling it "the lindy" and started calling it "getting down"?
You know what? Get over it. People have moved on in droves and to be honest it couldn't have happened to a more anally retentive bunch of rude for the sake of being rude , socially retarded hacks. - kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No, it's changing because it already has and *is*. I could care less. Slashdot effect rolls off the tongue a little better in my opinion. Point is, you or I have no control over this and are right now contributing to it's survival.
Within reasonable reason of course.
And also, I don't care enough to have my widdle feelings hurt. That's widdle. Not wittle.
And it's a pacifier. - kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh and by the way it's you guys that are whining about this, not diggers.
Get it right. All they ever did was callit the digg effect. No whining required to do so. You get to claim first whine. - tjmapes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How brilliant, you post something, get dugg. Then you post about getting dugg, and that post gets dugg! Nice smarts!
- kindrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and remove that bob from your icon.. it's a crime against bob
- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, congrats.
- m85476585, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think my DSL modem was ready to explode. I came home and the data light was blinking like crazy and I couldn't access the internet. I reset my modem to change my IP address and stop the DNS forwarding.
- entropy357, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm SICK OF HEARING ABOUT IT. They don't have a story every other day on slashdot.org about the slashdot effect. We get it, Digg.com if a popular web site. Now stop talking about it and move on and talk about something interesting.
- haloevo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice stats. Dugg.
- disord3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why shouldn't digg have an 'effect' named after it when it's clearly the one contributing to the flooding?"
If digg is contributing to the flooding, then it's a case of digg causing the slashdot effect. (:
Ya know, before I came along, "surfing the web" was fine. Now that I'm here, it must be called "pimping the web". Even though it's the same thing, and everyone alreasy know it as "surfing the web", we must now all break ourselves of that old archaic habit of browsing the web and begin pimping the web. The old phrase just wasn't good enough.
Sounds a bit rubbish, doesn't it? - disord3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0entropy: you know how sometimes you go to a party, and everyone seems to be having a good time and all is well, and there's a small crowd around some hot chick? She appears to be holding a conversation with many people, when in reality she's humoring people in the pauses between her talking about herself. The moment that she feels she can no longer steer the conversation back toward herself, everyone suddenly becames vapid and unworth of her attention. The worst kind of attention whore you can imagine, basically...
Yeah, that's digg. - ihybridora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice...
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool. :-)
- kevmaster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0How I managed to easily survive 2 frontpage diggs at the same time. An in depth article.

- aliencode, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh man you people crack me up, I get more uniques/pageviews on my porn site in an hour than the digg effect does all day, and here I thought Digg is supposed to be this big site, pathetic lol.
- eschatonik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@kindrobot: By the way, your argument covers no ground into explaining a reasonable reason to modify the nomenclature. Basically, you say "we're gonna have our way because we say so". Just like a little baby that wants it's binky. Thanks for proving my point.
- ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh "I was amazed at how much money my first digg made me from ads, so I decided to digg some lame page which has been done in the past"
- Sibertank, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Too bad this hit the front page at like 5 am, probaly woulda got alot more diggs :p
- eschatonik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0"When this place has been around for years we can talk again."
Not even then. It's called "The Slashdot Effect". Period.
I don't say that due to the childish "rivalry" that seems to exist between /. and DIGG, I say it because it's the term that has been established and accepted for the phenomena, no matter what the source of the traffic. The only reason certain DIGG fans refuse to use the term is because they have this juvenile navel gazing, "me-too" viewpoint. They will argue that the "effect is different" therefore it deserves it's own name. *****. It's a goddamn traffic slam from a popular tech news site. It's called the Slashdot Effect. Get over it. - whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0http://www.whalesalad.com/mint

http://geeksaresexy.blogspot.com/ - swift, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Please don't rip off Slashdot. If used here, it should be called "slashdot type effect." When this place has been around for years we can talk again.
