Now, Kevin P is a dope, Olivia is cute, but a dope too. When Sarah jumped ship to marry the PA, Brendan, I knew nothing good was gonna come of this.
They had a hardcore following before, geeks teaching geeks. I couldn't get enough of tweaking BIOS and overclocking systems. It's now turned into Kevin P commenting on what Paris Hilton was wearing yesterday.

I like the fact that Patrick is trying to make DLTV like TSS, but honestly, it's not the same. It's kind of boring. I hate to admit it, but yeah. - McG2k1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32This is a long time coming and has been going on for quite awhile. I'm a freelance editor in LA and I've worked off and on for the past year an a half at G4. Here's a few anecdotes.
I worked there pretty regularly for about 4 months last year, then in December they came to me and said they had no more work until after they holidays because of production hiatus. Well, that hiatus lasted until just about June of this year. With almost NOTHING in production and nothing to do in post other than edit packages for attack of the show and do cutdowns of all their newly acquired shows, like star trek. I believe the rtard responsible for trek 2.0 was also fired btw.
During one of my night sessions on happy tree friends I found the producer computer in my bay still logged into their intranet with the persons email still logged in. I found I could surf through their outlook email system and page through everyone's send lists one after the other like a chain. In about 4 clicks I worked my way up to the send list of their new president, and who was on HIS list? ALL the top brass at E. This was probably last December. I think E has been in control of G4 for at least year, since the buyout/consumption of TechTV at least.
When I returned to regularly steady work, 2 days at least every week or two, (that's pretty regular as a freelance editor) I found their entire reference library of games had been decimated of titles. They had 2 xbox 360 games in the entire building. After asking around I found that they had been hiring and firing writers and producers so often that those people rarely had the opportunity to even finish one episode and that most of the library had been checked out by staff to take home and play for their shows and they were fired without being able to return the games.
The hierarchy of production went like this: Executive Producer (2 for ALL shows at the network, never saw them)-> Supervising Producer (1 for about every 4 shows, never saw them, only got notes back on edits->Producer (1 for every 2 shows or so, just about always sat in their office surfing the web, only the cut down producers on cheaters ever actually entered my bay->Associate Producers (these were ALWAYS newly promoted PAs and in some cases interns, they often new a little bit about gaming and NOTHING about television, they were 100% responsible for all content in the show. They wrote the scripts, played the games, sat in on the edit sessions.)
If you hated G4 content, you have 3 people to blame: Network Brass for never clearly defining for staff what the network was supposed to be. Production management for falling asleep at the wheel and just letting the ***** slowly sink while they surfed for new work. The PAs who were burning themselves out making absolutely crap programming.
They do have an excellent post production facility though, and the building is real nice!

- consonance, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23No one will miss G4, except for maybe X-Play and/or Brainiac. The executives had no idea what they were doing. Most of the programming is awful and complemented with the worst advertising ever. Anyone with dignity at all who's seen G4 commercials has come to disdain commercial breaks. Unless you had Tivo, G4 was unbearable. It was bad enough when TechTV and G4 were combined and even worse when TechTV shut down, but by now no one can seriously call themselves a fan of the station anymore. George W. Bush, who has mismanaged several companies, could easily manage G4 better than the way it is mismanaged right now.

I think everyone "hates" it exactly because it did swallow TechTV. You know how geeks are with their personal grudges against huge, faceless companies (looks at Sony).
It's just really sad that a bunch of suits ruined a whole lot of quality programming. It felt like they were telling us what we wanted to see. Now it's even more frustrating that we can't tell each and every board member how wrong they were.
On the other hand, I think we're all greatful that the TechTV alumni are on the cutting edge of new media. Digg is the perfect Web2.0 model. DL.TV and Revision3 are top quality IPTV. And of course Leo is the king of podcasts.
It may be an irrational hate for a channel, but maybe if they had an irrational hate program they'd be a lot more popular amongst geeks. - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22All G4 is these days is reruns of X-Play, Fastlane, Arrested Development, The Man Show, and Star Trek 25 hours a day. There's nothing new anymore.
If they want to pin the demo, they just need to throw out E's repetitive "True Hollywood Stories" crap, find a good afternoon slot for X-Play and a good primetime slot for Attack of the Show.
AotS is, for the most part, everything E needs to attract a younger audience but lacks the ability to do with anything except The Soup.

Olivia Munn has not talent.. And she doesnt deserve to be on AOTS. When they hired her I realised that G4 was no longer even going for gaming anymore. That was a sad day because even though the network SUCKED before hand, I had hopes that it might come back to glory one day.. I was wrong.
And CHEAT is a stupid idea for a show. Leo Laporte is also still producing Call for Help for G4TechTV Canada, although I don't think he airs in the US anymore.
But, with Leo, I'd say that our G4TechTV still deserves the TechTV part. Personally, I don't bother with paying the extra few bucks a month for G4TechTV. Take Revision3 and make a network out of that, hire Leo Laporte, add other shows and go back to old school TechTV times. I don't even know what G4 stands for but I guess since they took out the "TechTV" part, they can just show whatever crap they want.

When I relized that I knew we were in trouble. I loved TechTV with a passion and watched it all day long, even back when it was called ZDTV. You could tell there was love and passion going into each show that was made. Thank goodness alot of the personalitys are on the TWIT bandwagon. The sooneer G4 is gone the sooner someone else will try to make a channel with a nerdy demographic except they will do it with the love and respect it deserves.
