The actual article instead of someone's blog - CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd take a picture of a factory that made miniature models of factories.
- Quantic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Yeah, these pics aren't that amazing. I've flown CESSNAs, and that's pretty much like what the world lookos like from up there."
Well for the rest of us common folk whom dont have the time to fly cessnas around all day, it looks quite cool. - Chompy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Well for the rest of us common folk whom dont have the time to fly cessnas around all day, it looks quite cool."
Don't worry, he's full of crap; I've spent plenty of time in small planes and the world doesn't look all out of focus from up there, either. - TCDToxic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.photo.net/equipment/canon/tilt-shift
- baltakatei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So *that's* why we can tell the difference between a miniature shot and a real one... Learn something everyday.
- orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1im expecting a guy in a godzilla suit to walk by. Very nice effect. not sure what its used for
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Link to the article not your lame ass blog.
- tristant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1saw videos that of this look at the museum of contemporary art in chicago, it's ***** bizarre.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow! Does anyone here suffer from depersonalization/derealization (DP/DR)? It's uncanny how similar these pictures are to the way I see things.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0neat camera tricks.
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those are verry annoying to look at personally
- godmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very cool
- intoflatlines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice
- igibson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its always a surprise to me how small and toy-like the world looks in an airplane
- aussiehuw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0See more at http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/tiltshift

The remarkable quality of the images are their lack of convergent lines where we would expect them. The edge blur is a result of the tilt-shift lense (essntially a wide angle) and the Depth of field is restricted by the same property, I would imagine. However, the loss of convergent lines robs us of the ability to determine scale, which is what is different from a standard aerial photograph. - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yep. It's like the effect you get with a macro-lens. That's why it looks like closeups of lego, etc. It isn't that special, although it's the first time I've seen it done, so it's original.
- danski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0beautiful.
- mikeanegus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't that what these are for? http://www.lensbabies.com/
- ZekeSulastin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It changes what we expect the perspective to be along with the focus, I think - the Lensbaby review on dansdata.com has a lot of info on this ...
In the blog, one of the comments has a link to lorettalux.de or something - there's your "people look like dolls in a dollhouse" site ... - Eaglefire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Edges get blurrier/darker: "Vignetting"
Small area is in focus: "Depth of field" - LaCamiseta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol, 5 of the 10 pictures shown in the original article are here in Las Vegas, and I recognize all of them.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty impressive. I had trouble believing these were real. I'm still not 100% sure.
- SenorFrog21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It might have been easy to do this, it might have been hard. I don't know. I don't really care either, because they just look plain cool. They totally look like miniature models - I've never seen anything like it.
- azGFX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW...those are some awesome pics.
- Alvaradolol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is that anything more than adding a depth of field blur?
- frolich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If anyone is feeling in a dyi mood I found an article on how to make a tilt/ shift len yourself for much cheaper than they sell for ($1000+). It even uses a plunger!
http://www.dennisonbertram.com/hackmaster/2005/02/tilt-shift-pc-lens.htm - clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone should photoshop Godzilla in one of those. :D
- ender52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting use of depth of field, i like it.
- workin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So go do it! You'll get on Digg.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0On the topic of photography, does anyone know where/how to get some large-scale photographs printed? I'd like to get some of my photos printed to hang on the wall ... but some of them have some funky dimensions like 48" wide by 12" high, etc. I'd like high-quality prints, or mounted on something rigid so they look professional in a frame. Any suggestions?
- combatcupcake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uptown, theres a bunch of places here in NYC, dunno if thats where you are, if not search for 'reproduction firms', 'oversize printing', etc
Some photo shops might do it as well but probably for more money. The places here in NYC might ship as well if your not in the city. - xccliffy532, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those are definitely the most unique pictures I have ever seen...I really like what he did with them to make them look like models with the focus and everything else...the Hoover Dam one is my favorite...digg+++
- OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is this something that could be done with photoshop?
- combatcupcake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/8623/zilla0eh.jpg
I was bored with Photoshop open :) - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it looks like he uses a depth of field blur, he tilts the camera when he takes the picture, and he also overexposes the scene. It gives the look of macro, high over-head view and bright light shining on the scene looks, respectively.
- bhagany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think it looks like a model because they told us it does. I honestly do not understand why anyone would think this is cool. No digg.
- mogebier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those are cool.
- cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, these photos (especially the Paris one) remind me of Team America.
- flashmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's the difference between using a camera and a plane vs photoshoping a google satelite map to get the same blur effect?
I don't see the big deal.
*yawn* - workin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know there's some cool stuff on that blog, I've found lots of goodness - playing bridges as musical instruments or Bangladeshi ship breaking yards. But the Metropolis article should have been linked fair enough. Still - Digg it!!! Digg-a-dog!!! Those photos are whacked cool.
- gluon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bad ass, luvvit
- Flipperbw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I REALLY do not understand what the big deal is about these pictures. Give me a helicopter, and I can take the same, out of focus, nonsense pictures of landscape.
- combatcupcake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The difference is that when you normally take pictures from a great distance you get a very wide angle and very little depth of field since all you are seeing is essentially a background, you would have to be at an extreme angle to get the distance for depth of field.
So using the special lenses these images have the effect of a macro lens on a large scale.
So you get true depth of field and image that look like they were taken with an enormous camera. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow
- kaffiene, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man, some of you guys are easily impressed.
- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is so awesome. They look like little models
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's a neat trick. you can achieve the same effect by shooting an architectural model in super macro.
