The Web's best free stuff
infoworld.com — Free: It's the magic word for an ever-expanding wealth of downloadable software and online services. Free doesn't necessarily mean good, however, and hunting for freebies can mean sifting through a lot of junk.

Completely right.- LocalDocal, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1It's pornography. It's not like you'll searching for a 2 hour movie with a contrived plot.

- ArthurArchnix, on 03/26/2008, -2/+31Microsoft's Office Live Small Business appears twice and Microsoft Free Calc (??) appears, but 'r' doesn't nor does python. Both Abiword and StarOffice appear, but OpenOffice somehow doesn't merit a mention. No nix's at all: Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, or OpenSuse. Torrent Swapper but no utorrent. Neither AVG nor Avast make the list of windows virus checkers. Nothing google appears. No Skype. No Tremulous. No foxit pdf. No cutepdf...'nuff said. BURIED.
- MrLevite, on 03/26/2008, -1/+3foxit is on there
- ArthurArchnix, on 03/26/2008, -1/+4You're right. I've changed the links total suckage score to from 97/100 to 92/100. Thanks.
- LocalDocal, on 03/26/2008, -6/+0Well, to start, the webpage was obviously only listing software, and excluding OSes. Secondly, this list is an opinion, it's not going to agree with your idea of what is good and what isn't. For example, I highly doubt everybody is going to find 'MizPee' useful.
- ArthurArchnix, on 03/26/2008, -1/+4I see... so you apparently digg up stories where the author tries hard? And the title is "the Web's Best Free Stuff", so no, it's not "obviously" only listing software.
- LocalDocal, on 03/26/2008, -1/+0Actually, I did not digg this story up (neither did I bury it). Secondly, yes, the title is 'The Web's Best Free Stuff', but that does not mean he's automatically has to list OSes too. Unless, of course, you want to skewered him for semantics.
And I can't comprehend how you can disagree with me when I said he is obviously listing only software. Do you see any OSes in his list? - ArthurArchnix, on 03/28/2008, -0/+1I see... well, since you and I are the last two people on this planet who care about this thread, let me deign to englighten you about my comments:
1. I wasn't talking about whether or not you digg'd or buried this story, I was showing you how I understood your comment about the list being "an opinion" that'st "not going to agree with your idea of what is good and what isn't". You're insight has penetrated into the very core of digg.com, where people get to express their opinion abou the articles that appear. The fact that some people digg, while others bury, would seem to make your own erudite commentary superfluous.
2. As for semantics, you began the game, don't blame me if you happen to lose. If I say to you: Here are the best foods in the world, then list 10 fruits. Would you reply that "obviously" I am speaking of fruits, since I only list fruits in my list of the best foods? You'll probably need to stop and think about this one for a while in order to make the connection between this analogy and your comments about how their is only "OSes in his list".- LocalDocal, on 03/28/2008, -1/+01) In other words, you mistakenly assumed I dugg up the comment. Why not just say that instead of going on a long-winded, non-sensical tirade?
2) How did I begin this semantics game? By saying that the website was obviously on listing non-OS software (when it was)? Secondly, your analogy is inaccurate to an extent. If you said here is a list of the 10 best foods and you only list fruits, you're still not doing anything wrong as you believe those 10 fruits are the best foods in the world. There is no rule stating you have to list non-fruit food just because your title states 'Here is the list of the 10 best fruits' in the world. That is what I am getting at: Just because his title is 'The Web's Best Free Stuff' doesn't necessarily means he has to list examples from every possible category.
Lastly, if you can't come up with a proper argument, then don't bother telling your opponent to 'stop and think about it'. It only makes you look like a fool.
