- dotlizard, on 04/08/2008, -0/+45well, they may indeed hate Slashdot, however, their description is totally 100% spot on.
- agsinger, on 04/08/2008, -1/+35Time hates slashdot -
"Reading Slashdot these days is like visiting the IT guy at work. He's infuriatingly smug and cares passionately about stuff you don't care about, and views your lack of interest as further confirmation of his intellectual superiority. Enjoy." - thelastcivilian, on 04/08/2008, -0/+31"Where's my personal blog? I have like 3 readers! I should be at least 24th on that list." - 99% of bloggers.
- bossm4n, on 04/08/2008, -3/+30They list Ars Technica one of the 5 most overrated, yet Huffington and Daily Kos make the top 20. WTF?
- VeniceCA, on 04/08/2008, -6/+31Is there such a thing as first annual?
- smellydog, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2325 sites. 25 separate pages. sigh.
- indorock, on 04/08/2008, -0/+16http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/article/0,2 ...
"By most estimates, this is the 10th most popular blog on the planet: a site that lets users upload pictures of cats and affix funny captions to them written in a made-up language. Further evidence of the decline of Western civilization."
May ceiling cat have mercy on your soul, Time. - thelastcivilian, on 04/08/2008, -2/+16Why not? If they plan to do it in subsequent years...
- chemdiva, on 04/08/2008, -1/+15Clearly TIme doesn't understand that only reason you ever go talk to the IT guy at work so that you can have a conversation with someone who actually gets what you're talking about....
- charlesray, on 04/08/2008, -0/+11Slashdot isn't a blog, and neither is Ars Technica. Both of them existed far before the term "blog" was in (wide) use. This is without a doubt one of the most terrible "we're a traditional media source and would like to capitalize on the interwebs" articles I've ever read.
- lalalalamppost, on 04/08/2008, -0/+10Watch it! That sort of accuracy about technology is EXACTLY what makes the "blog experts" at Time label a person as "infuriatingly smug."
The real question people need to be asking these days: Why the ***** should I care about Time.com? - Anth, on 04/08/2008, -1/+11I agree completely. I get most of my Tech news at Ars, and I consider them to be one of the most level headed and intelligent tech websites out there. How they can be "overrated" is beyond me.
- asnider, on 04/08/2008, -4/+13"While the typical blog is written by one person wearing sweatpants reclaimed from the hamper..."
Oh, come on! Can we stop with these stupid stereotypes already? Blogs are no longer just written by sweaty fatasses with nothing better to do. I'm pretty sure that sentence NEVER described the typical blogger, and it certainly doesn't describe the average blogger in 2008. - mvanhorn, on 04/08/2008, -0/+9I think when you're TIME you can make statements like that
- Feydakyn, on 04/08/2008, -0/+8Interesting list even if it doesn't seem to make much sense
- CosmoIaccavazi, on 04/08/2008, -2/+9That list is truly *****
- aflusche, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6Thank you for pointing this out!
- davidhildreth, on 04/08/2008, -0/+6The sort of person who would consider them "blogs" probably wouldn't read them anyway.
Maybe that's why TIME is shoveling on the hate. - WSUcougars, on 04/08/2008, -1/+7What's up with the "Buzz this on Yahoo" Button? I mean seriously... Who cares about Yahoo Buzz?
- pleeker, on 04/08/2008, -3/+8As long as Consumerist is on the list, I'm cool with it. :-)
- dotlizard, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5she's a he. just for future reference :)
- GrantMVP, on 04/08/2008, -4/+9Techcrunch is my personal favorite.
- devin_mm, on 04/08/2008, -1/+6The news to me was that Slashdot is considered a blog, I always thought it was a news aggregator.
- jfp51, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5And it isn't a blog to boot!
- frooo, on 04/08/2008, -0/+5Bloggers wear pants? Thats where I'm going wrong.... must not write while pantsless.
- jfp51, on 04/08/2008, -1/+5Lol, as if Time magazine is still relevant anymore. Hey, Time, Ars and Slashdot aren't blogs!
- aaaleman, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3Time feels they're talking to Nick Burns whenever they visit Slashdot.
- lolnix, on 04/08/2008, -2/+5Here's a condensed version, if you don't want to wade through all the pages. http://digg.com/tech_news/Time_com_s_Top_25_Blogs_ ...
- agentlame, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Screw Times. Ars is a great site. I've never really considered it a "blog" though.
- samard2002, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2TechCrunch's layout is literally 40% ad space. It always takes me a few seconds to figure out where the content is.
- tim710, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2First Birthdays are almost always a sure thing.
- axis, on 04/08/2008, -1/+3I found the article link at the bottom of the page about some men's low sexual drive more interesting than this. I haven't visited 20 of the sites on that list, so I think the list is kinda lame...
- hello2usir, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2The oversaturation of blogs these days almost makes me long for the days when people expressed themselves with Angelfire and ***** pages.
Almost. - hollywoodphony, on 04/08/2008, -1/+3My blog's not even on there. What kind of list is this? None of these people know anyone famous.
- gothicform, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2We suffer from the problem that most bloggers think they can do it because anyone can. We end up with an endless circle-jerk of noise about a subject, any subject, as an original post on an authorative blog is repeated 5000 times ad nauseum. They don't understand that unless you are a brilliant writer able to do commentary and analysis that entertains the masses, people aren't reading and don't care. The only way you can get around that is by real journalism which few blogs do preferring opinion pieces. The end result is we have 99 billion piece of ***** and perhaps 1,000 worth reading in the entire planet.
- SpikeLee, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Probably because its not a blog.
- catachip, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Actually, if you had read the article, you'd see that their ranking is based on reader submission and ranking. You can go there now and rate them as you please. So, cool your jets there VSack.
- chroko, on 04/08/2008, -1/+3Hey, it just reenforces the idea that the typical newspaper article is written by an out-of-touch moron with no real understanding - or experience - with the subject they're writing about.
Their audience is the lowest common denominator, readers who have problems understanding large words. They generalize and simplify to the point of stupidity. You shouldn't expect reporters to be able to do anything except make ***** up.
I thought this line in the article was funny:
"Why are so many blogs attached to mainstream newspapers so freakin' lame?"
Indeed, Time Magazine. Why *are* your online articles so lame? - bluemist, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2I'm in ur magazeen, wastin ur TIME.
I see too many furries on Digg lately also, what gives? - slamtv7, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2They also hate Ars Technica
"A perennially top-rated blog that bills itself as covering "the art of technology." Verdict: too much technology. Hardly any art. And lose the fruity name." - serif69, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2I do. In fact, it would appear that most commenters on Digg do.
- tattertech, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2That's true, Scoble doesn't apparently bother with clothes...
- RyeBrye, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2The audience of Times obviously doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground.
Ars is awesome. Slashdot is OK - but I would definitely not put those two in the category of "overhyped" blogs.
Lets put it this way: This was the first time I've ever been to Time.com in over a year or two... - indorock, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Ugh. link broke. I am of course referring to icanhascheezburger on the overrated list.
http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/article/0,2 ... - sohailstyle, on 04/08/2008, -1/+3Someone At TIME Magazine Has a Woody For Ace of Spades
http://firedoglake.com/2008/04/07/someone-at-time- ... - MrViklund, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1I hope Jonathan Schwartz's Blog is in there or this list is inaccurate.
- x2cprincess, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1Because it is incorrect. An event cannot simultaneously be "first" and "annual". An event cannot be annual until it has occurred for at least two successive years.
- peterinjapan, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1No Boing Boing??
- davidhildreth, on 04/08/2008, -1/+2It's not a blog.
- Adamus76, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1With that number 1 and 2 this list is embarrassingly stupid.
